A game in the [[RunningGag war-declaringly popular]] ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' series and second entry of the ''Franchise/FabulaNovaCrystallisFinalFantasy'' sub-series, '''''Final Fantasy Type-0''''' (originally known as ''Final Fantasy Agito XIII'' until late January 2011) is an {{Eastern RPG}} originally released for the UsefulNotes/PlaystationPortable. As with the other ''FNC'' games ([[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII the]] ''[[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2 XIII]]'' [[VideoGame/LightningReturnsFinalFantasyXIII trilogy]]), ''Type-0'' shares some concepts with the other games but are entirely independent of each other. The game was originally bound for cellphones, but this was changed early in development. The PSP original was released in Japan on October 27, 2011, and never saw a stateside release (save for [[http://www.skybladecloud.net/projects/final-fantasy-type-0-psp-english-translation a fan translation project]]).

* BloodierAndGorier: Surprisingly enough, as the ''Final Fantasy'' theme of swords and guns usually hit bluntly or without effect. People are set on fire, maiming and bloodletting are prevalent, death is shown a lot more onscreen, and even the magic system requires magically pulling a life force known as Phantoma out of their enemies' bodies through ''forcibly exploding them'' into a messy pulp.

* DarkerAndEdgier: In addition of being the first Final Fantasy game to have a M rating (compared to the usual T the series have (yes, even Tactics who is just as dark as Type-0) the game handeles the theme of WarIsHell and death without sugar-coating it with how brutal and bloody they can be. In addition, it can rival Tactics with its body count; [[spoiler: with all but two of the main characters dead by the end and many others who dies in between the final chapter and the end. In fact, only three named characters survived and one of them was showed to die in a New Game + only scene.]]
