* BreakingOldTrends: Previous ''Monsters'' games were disconnected from the main series -- even when starring a previous party member, they took place in different worlds and had nothing to do with their original games' plots. This is a flat-out prequel to ''VideoGame/DragonQuestIV'' and elaborates on that game's backstory. A Japanese Nintendo Direct trailer even shows that the entire party from ''IV'' will appear (including the Hero, when Heroes are often excluded from spinoffs).

''Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince'' (''Dragon Quest Monsters 3: The Demon Prince and the Elf's Journey'' in Japan) is the seventh installment of the ''VideoGame/DragonQuestMonsters'' spinoff of the ''Franchise/DragonQuest'' series, and a {{Prequel}} to ''VideoGame/DragonQuestIV''. It was released on the UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch on December 1st, 2023.

All hope seems lost when a Beleth tries to attack him in Rosehill, but a Pteranodon swoops in, hurting the monster, and aided by an Abracadabrodor and a Drooling Ghoul, drive the Beleths away. The Pteranodon's owner, Monty, tells Psaro that in order to fight monsters, he'll have to become a Monster Wrangler. Given a Scout Ring by the old man, Psaro sets off to become the Master of Monsterkind he is known for, building an army of monsters, and meeting some friends along the way...
