** When Creator/CartoonNetwork announced the return of WesternAnimation/CartoonPlanet, some fans speculated that this would lead to Toonami returning as part of the network returning to its roots for its 20th anniversary. Of course just a day after Cartoon Planet premiered, on the night of March 31-April 1, 2012...
** Around May 2019, the Toonami staff hinted that another non-action title would air on the block following the success of ''Manga/PopTeamEpic''. Many fans speculated that it would either be ''Manga/FoodWars'' or ''Anime/OsomatsuSan'' since both were the most requested non-action anime titles. The former was later confirmed to air on Toonami in July 2019.

* AwesomeDearBoy: There's only six people manning the ship of the Toonami reboot. They've even admitted that they aren't getting paid for it. Any money that is budgeted to the block goes directly into production values and licensing new series. This is obviously a work of love on the part of the crew.

** Toonami normally air shows that are either action-oriented series (regardless if the anime is RatedMForManly or not), or if it's not an action series, it's most likely an adventure type instead (i.e. ''Anime/SpaceDandy''). ''Manga/PopTeamEpic'' is a far cry from their usual titles, as it's a parody comedy WidgetSeries similar to ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' that takes a lot of Japanese pop culture references. Likewise, ''Manga/FoodWars'' is a shonen work that isn't an action title. Yet, the series is a WorldOfHam so [[MundaneMadeAwesome over-the-top]] where cooking is taken as SeriousBusiness to the point that it can easily pass as an action title without actually being an action title.

*** According to Jason [=DeMarco=] on Episode 7 of Toonami Pre-Flight, one series that was intended for Giant Robot Week but never got to air was ''[[Manga/GiantRobo Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still]]''.

Then it became so immensely popular when with the release of the interquel movie that the price of season 2 skyrocketed beyond their budget.

** Chiller (a defunct cable channel owned by Creator/{{NBCUniversal}} and Creator/SyFy's sister channel) got some attention for attempting a reboot of their own anime block in July 2015, with a line-up that can be considered "Toonami with a horror slant".[[note]]For the curious, said lineup consisted of ''LightNovel/IsThisAZombie'', ''Anime/TokyoMajin'', ''Anime/DevilMayCryTheAnimatedSeries'', and ''Literature/BlackBloodBrothers''. The "Chiller Anime" block ended up being a failure due to a number of reasons, including airing on Wednesdays, lack of promotion, and the channel itself being niche after it lost carriage support from several providers in 2017.[[/note]] Before that, in 2009, they had the "Ani-Monday" block but that ain't last long, either.
