** This also appears to be the case for Doug Walker himself. For if one visits the Channel Awesome website and searches for any of the Anniversary specials, all they will find are the former DVD extra Nostalgic Critic Reviews of them with almost no effort to restore them in years. With the store page still shut down, that leaves no way to watch any of the anniversary specials through official channels.

* ArtistDisillusionment: Spoony's commentary reveals that the desire to retire the Nostalgia Critic and move on to new shows with more original content was in part motivated on the TGWTG crew's trip to Washington DC to lobby against various internet censorship bills. [[DespairEventHorizon The team became convinced that nobody really cared what they had to say]] and that some sort of internet censorship bill was inevitable prompting several producers to reassess the work they were basing their livelihoods around. Rob described the meeting as "talking to a brick wall." Ouch.

*** In the end, it was this hellish production which caused the Walkers to make the [[WebVideo/TheUncannyValley next anniversary crossover]] an anthology, and to swear off anniversary specials entirely until the tenth anniversary in 2018 (which was cancelled after the "Not So Awesome" document sparked a contributor exodus from Channel Awesome and all but destroyed the site). After ''To Boldly Flee'''s release, Channel Awesome put out a newsletter pointing to weather as the deciding factor to stop the troubled anniversary productions, [[NeverMyFault while not owning up into their own gross mismanagement]].

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The Plot Hole spawning in space is used as a catch-all fix for every fan-enraging inconsistency on the site, most prominently Spoony and Dr. Insano being the same character in ''Kickassia'' when they're separate characters otherwise. Well, that and the Aesop that there will always be inconsistencies in any art, just go with it. According to a few producers, they got irritated enough with Doug and Rob explaining anything that didn't make sense with "PlotHole!" that they made fun of it in their videos for a while.

Undermined by Reality is under construction.

* UnderminedByReality: The climactic scene and resolution is the Nostalgia Critic choosing to make a HeroicSacrifice as a way to save everyone, with this being treated as the endpoint of his character arc and a sign that he's become a truly good and selfless person despite being created as nothing more than a shallow jerk. Though already a bit of a self-aggrandizing moment, it becomes very difficult to take seriously when one learns that, in real life, Doug had abruptly chosen to retire the site's main draw in favor of gambling everything on [[WebVideo/DemoReel a show that would ultimately bomb]], and everyone present immediately realized that this would have knock-on effects on their careers, as many people would stop coming to the site (not helped by the film repeatedly bringing up the idea of this being an EndOfAnEra) and none of them were informed of this before hand, meaning that they were taken completely off guard by this sudden shake up to their livelihoods. Essentially, what was treated in the film as giving up his life to save his friends was seen by those same friends in real life as him throwing them under the bus for the sake of what they viewed as a VanityProject.
