** After leaving Channel Awesome, {{Phelous}} described ''To Boldly Flee'' as "The worst movie in the universe", claiming that the film's [[{{Narm}} attempts at being "serious" while also balancing the comedy didn't work well]] and criticizing its lifting of scenes wholesale from other movies. Phelous also claimed that some people on the site were gossiping about him "half assing" the effects that he was contracted to do for the film, and attempted to get {{Welshy}} to spy on him to ensure that he was doing a good job (which Welshy ended up not doing). His earlier commentary of the film consisted of himself, WebVideo/ObscurusLupa and BradJones making fun of it. Making occasional backhanded jokes about ''To Boldly Flee'' has also gone on to become a RunningGag in Phelous' reviews.

** Doug and Rob's direction for Noah's performance as Turrell was to [[LargeHam ham it up as much as possible]]. Having watched ''Film/BattlefieldEarth'' to prepare for the role, Noah had noted that JohnTravolta's Terl had two settings - LargeHam and (as Noah describes it) "speaking through clenched teeth" - and learnt the second voice so that he could provide alternate takes in the second voice.

** Female fans have been asking for a Critic/Chick crossover with Doug dressed as Creator/TimCurry ever since ''{{Ferngully}}''. ''Part 1'' gives them a winking smile, even though it'll remain to be seen if the review comes to pass.

** Again. Doug's commentary goes into uncomfortable detail about his SanitySlippage (and after filming, was [[http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/video-announcement-6083673 shown]] to have lost an unhealthy amount of weight), they had only a week to shoot an involved three hour film which didn't help anyone, Phelan's farewell post revealed that management thought he was half-assing special effects so sent Welshy to spy on him, and [[https://twitter.com/thelindsayellis/status/592558240145244160 Lindsay]] has more than once mentioned a ton of frustration with the lack of professionalism.

* HeyItsThatGuy:
** Prick and his assistant are Bill and Malachite from ''WebVideo/SuburbanKnights''. Playing ''wildly'' different characters than before.
** The government official in Part I is Dad!Walker, who played the news reporter in ''WebVideo/SuburbanKnights''.
** The intern that wakes the Snob up after his capture is Jillian, Brad's (now ex-)wife.
** The Production Assistant in Snob's dream is Holly, the web administrator for Channel Awesome.
** The writer in the closet who asks for a paycheck a la ''Literature/OliverTwist'' is Doug's ex, who was a woman with a cell phone in ''WebVideo/SuburbanKnights''.
** The only characters to be in both [[{{WebVideo/TGWTGYearOneBrawl}} the Brawl]] and this movie are WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic, WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick, [[{{WebVideo/AskThatGuyWithTheGlasses}} Ask That Guy]], [[{{WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall}} Linkara]], [[{{WebVideo/BumReviews}} Chester A. Bum]], WebVideo/MarzGurl, WebVideo/PawDugan, [[{{WebVideo/TheAngryJoeShow}} Angry Joe]], WebVideo/BennettTheSage, {{Benzaie}} (albiet as a cameo in WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee), [[WebVideo/TheGameHeroes Handsome Tom and 8-Bit Mickey]], [[{{WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment}} Spoony]], and WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd. Rob Walker appeared in both, but as different characters (a man kicking a parking meter in the Brawl, and The Executor in To Boldly Flee), as did the character of Ma-Ti, despite the actor leaving the site after WebVideo/SuburbanKnights.
* HeyItsThatVoice:
** The voice-over of the female news correspondent covering deaths in Minnesota is Channel Awesome web administrator Holly.
** The "commercials" in Part 1 are narrated by Brentalfloss.

** On tumblr, Allison and Lewis revealed a lot of the behind the scenes issues. The main ones were the [[http://obscuruslupa.tumblr.com/post/141854564532/apologies-for-asking-so-many-questions-about-tbf script being hard to read]] due to its length, [[http://atopfourthwall.tumblr.com/post/141829591203 too much work expected in such a short]] amount of time and Doug ignoring any advice attempts.

Which even Doug talked about on his commentary, admitting he was so wrapped up in his own problems that he shut everyone out.
