** Henry Thomas, whose most famous role is as a child actor in ''Film/{{ET}}'', plays the SupernaturalProofFather to a group of kids who are traumatized by ghosts in the very early 90s. During the treehouse scene early on, a close-up of (young) Luke's drawing also features an E.T. lunchbox.

Natter, Dawson Casting is about playing teens

* DawsonCasting: Inverted. Nell is shown to be 32 when she dies, but Victoria Pedretti was 22 during filming. Presumably because she dies early on and is shown more times in flashback, so casting a younger actress is necessary. Oliver Jackson-Cohen would count in the sense that the two play twins, yet there's a nine year age difference between them.
** Luke may also be a case of YoungerThanHeLooks because of his years of hardcore drug use and periods of rough living (involving a lot more exposure to sun and to the elements), so casting an actor visibly older than the actor playing his twin sister is still reasonable.

Added DiffLines:

* UnderageCasting: Nell is in her early thirties when she dies; her actress Creator/VictoriaPedretti was about a decade younger when filming.

* EnforcedMethodActing: For the notorious JumpScare in Episode 8, there were several more lines scripted between Shirley and Theo, while Victoria Pedretti was secretly told to jump in early.

* PlayingGertrude: Timothy Hutton plays the older version of Henry Thomas. Twenty-six years have passed, but there's only an eleven year difference between the actors.

** Russ Tamblyn appears as Nell's psychiatrist, Dr. Montague, based lightly on the character from the book. Not only did Tamblyn play Luke in the original ''Film/TheHaunting'', he was also Dr. Jakoby in ''Series/TwinPeaks'', the therapist of Laura Palmer, another disturbed young woman on an inevitable path towards death at the hand of hostile supernatural forces. In the Netflix version, Dr. Montague is a sober, professional, compassionate therapist whose counselling to Nell falls tragically short - the polar opposite to Dr. Jakoby, a creepy and manipulative monster who ends up becoming a shock-jock radio host.
