** In the TV show: Although not as egregious as the main cast of some other shows set in high school, the only actor in the main cast who portrayed a character his own age in the beginning was Tyler Hoechlin, who was 23 when he started as Derek. It's only gotten worse, as the show advances only about a quarter as fast as real life. At the time they first started portraying 16- and 17-year-olds, the actors were:

*** 19: Tyler Posey (Scott), Dylan O'Brien (Stiles)

** This has gradually become one of the main reasons behind actors and actresses leaving the show for other projects; several of them, including Crystal Reed, stated that they no longer wished to play a high school student when they themselves were approaching their late 20s or early 30s. And some of the actors have begun to visibly show their age, making it much more difficult for them to be passed off to viewing audiences as young high school students. And unlike ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'', which gradually progressed into year-long seasons that better accommodated its actors' and actresses' increasing ages, ''Teen Wolf'' has only progressed a few ''months'' in four whole seasons.
