** the series went through a few changes before publication. One of the big ones was Nico Minoru's source of power. Originally, she found a book of dark magic hidden in a shed in her backyard. Being heavily Christian, she hated it but sacrificed her beliefs to use one of the spells during the first fight with the Pride. Some aspects of this were left, including her being a former altar girl and a comment when she first sees her parents as dark magicians ("This isn't like you, Mom! We go to church every Sunday!") Also, Chase's name was originally "John".

* AccidentalDownerEnding: Twice!
** The third series was supposed to end with an alternate-universe version of Gert joining the team, but the series was cancelled halfway through the final arc, and thus instead ended with Chase quitting the team and then getting hit by a car and ending up in the emergency room, with his teammates having no idea where he is. A later appearance in ''ComicBook/{{Daken}}'' retconned that Chase somehow survived the accident, made a full recovery, and rejoined the team, and [[LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain they all just refuse to talk about everything that happened in that arc.]]
** After months of dropping sales and with Creator/RainbowRowell having been tapped to write a new ''ComicBook/SheHulk'' series, ''ComicBook/RunawaysRainbowRowell'' ended with a MilestoneCelebration. Having only one issue to resolve as many of the dangling plot threads as possible, the series ends with [[spoiler:Chase being kidnapped by a version of Gert from the future, Karolina being taken away to space, ostensibly to be healed after losing her powers but unaware that her hosts plan to hand her over to her ex-fiancee Xavin, and the rest of the team feeling demoralized now that they've lost both TheHeart and the TeamDad in a single night, while their former leader-turned-nemesis Alex Wilder is secretly monitoring them]].

* TechnologyMarchesOn: The cell phones are positively ancient compared to today. Molly is given a cell phone at one point and excitedly asks "Does it have Tetris on it?!" Modern cell phones, even budget cell phones, have ''way'' more functionality than that.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: It's set in the early-to-mid 2000s. Because the characters are well-off teens, they're very immersed in the pop culture of the time, resulting in references that date the comic to that era.
** Alex is playing an MMORPG with a fee. Nowadays, most {{MMORPG}}s are free to play with microtransactions (including [[VideoGame/MarvelHeroes Marvel's own, short-lived one]]) and it's harder for an MMORPG to get away with a monthly fee - just doesn't draw the crowds like it did then.

Removed Recycled Script, which is supposed to apply to a writer recycling a plot from one of their other works, or to a work recycling a previous plot from itself. Also removing Executive Meddling, as I can't find documentation that any of the examples were editorially-mandated.

* ExecutiveMeddling: The post-Vaughan arcs were riddled with this.
** Karolina and Xavin were supposed to share their first on-panel mouth-to-mouth kiss in Whedon's arc, but this was changed to a HeadbuttOfLove.
** Xavin was written out of the series in the first arc of Volume 3 due to Marvel insisting that in the wake of ''ComicBook/SecretInvasion'', every Skrull left on Earth was either dead or in hiding.
** For what would end up being the series' last arc, Nick Lowe insisted that Gert Yorkes had to be brought back and one of the surviving characters had to die, resulting in [[spoiler:Old Lace]] being killed off.
* RecycledScript:
** So, a group of survivors of the destruction of Majesdane come to Earth, to take Karolina to her homeworld with them. She resisted, there was a fight, and she finally agreed, but there was a trick: [[spoiler:it was not Karolina who left with the aliens, but the Skrull Xavin, posing as her]]. This could be a rehash of the ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'' arc where the Skrulls and the Kree come to blows over Teddy, who is the son of Mar-vell and Princess Anelle, and the plot is resolved when one of the other Skrulls agrees to pose as Teddy and serve in his place.
*** It could also be a rehash of "Starcrossed", the arc that introduced Xavin in the first place.
** Vaughan would later "borrow" the idea of Klara in ''ComicBook/{{Saga}}'', introducing Sophie the Slave Girl, a small girl with a single braid with RapeAsBackstory and the ability to talk to inanimate objects.

** The fact that they brought in the good Green Goblin may also count.
** Bringing in Ricochet from Slingers doubles. Considering how unpopular and unknown the title was, bringing him in was a bit risky, but ultimately worked.
