One idea that was floated in the pre-development stages was to have Ethan get ''[[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe sliced in half]]'' with a chainsaw, and have to crawl to safety dragging his entrails behind him. This was deemed far too extreme, so they went with Ethan losing a hand via chainsaw instead.
