Context Trivia / ResidentEvil7Biohazard

* ColbertBump: Due to Capcom extensively citing ''Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre1974'' as the '''primary''' visual and thematic inspiration for this game during the promotional "making of the game documentaries", many younger gamers who would otherwise be unfamiliar with or disinterested in 1970's cinema outside of ''[[Franchise/StarWars The Original Star Wars Trilogy]]'' or ''Film/{{Jaws}}'' are introduced to this horror classic through ''Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.''
* TheDanza:
** Jack Baker is voiced by Jack Brand in the English version of the game's audio.
** Peter Walken's face model and actor in advertisements is Peter Fabiano of Capcom.
* EasterEgg: In a small bit of ShownTheirWork, the tanker breakroom in Mia's flashback has a bottle of [[http://www.webstaurantstore.com/images/products/extra_large/57159/253063.jpg Louisiana Hot Sauce]] sitting on one table, which is a real, locally-produced brand that's fairly popular in its namesake state.
* KillerApp: For the Platform/{{PlayStation|4}} VR.
* TheOtherDarrin: [[spoiler:Chris Redfield is voiced by David Vaughn instead of Creator/RogerCraigSmith.]]
* PropRecycling: Much of ''Beginning Hour'' is recycled assets, animations and remixed puzzles from the prologue, set in the kitchen, attic and basement of the Bakers' guest house. Even Jack Baker's "Welcome to the family, son!" [[TalkToTheFist sucker punch]] is recycled from [[spoiler:his cheap shot on Ethan after you "kill" Mia for the final time. Considering that the demo character canonically escapes before Jack can do anything; Jack technically used it the first time after defeating Mia]].
* ScheduleSlip: The free DLC ''Not a Hero'' was intended to be released in Spring 2017, but Capcom creators believed due to the reception the game is receiving from fans, they are trying to make it up to the fans' standards and expectations. It was finally released on December 12, 2017, along with the ''End of Zoe'' DLC story.
* TeasingCreator: Capcom have been teasing the fanbase ''mercilessly'' in regards to the Dummy Finger, to the point that even official customer support emails have humorous mentions to it. In the final game, [[spoiler:the Dummy Finger reappears as part of Lucas' Birthday puzzle]].
* WordOfGod: The multiple theories as to [[spoiler:Redfield's]] real identity were shot down by director Koushi Nakanishi, [[http://www.denofgeek.com/us/games/resident-evil/262931/capcom-dismisses-fan-theory-regarding-resident-evil-7s-ending who confirmed that he is, indeed,]] the same [[spoiler:SeriesMascot Chris Redfield]] that fans know and love.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The earliest version of the game was in development in 2013 and set to be in the same style as ''6'', but was scrapped after the game's mixed reception. This resulted in the team going for the more ''Franchise/EvilDead''-styled "compact but deep" horror of the final game.
** Ethan and Mia were originally strangers, not married. Ethan was originally was an investigator and Mia was a missing person.
** According to [[http://www.pcgamer.com/having-your-hand-chopped-off-in-resident-evil-7-was-almost-much-much-worse/ this article]], the creative team decided early on to have something shocking and gruesome happen to the player character near the start of the game to set the tone. One idea that was floated in the pre-development stages was to have Ethan get ''[[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe sliced in half]]'' with a chainsaw, and have to crawl to safety dragging his entrails behind him. This was deemed far too extreme, so they went with Ethan [[spoiler:losing a hand via chainsaw]] instead.
** The Baker family originally had a [[http://www.gamesradar.com/resident-evil-7-nearly-had-a-dog-called-diane-watch-this-making-of-for-more-including-the-original-pitch-movie/ pet dog]] named Diane who would attack the player which was cut from the game.
** Zombies were considered to return and were going to be sound-sensitive. You'd have to hold down a button to have the player character hold their breath in order to get past one. This was ultimately cut for making the game ''too tense''.
** "Not A Hero" went through some story changes after it was delayed. Originally, the ending of the DLC would involve [[spoiler: Chris arresting Lucas for his crimes but this was ultimately scrapped and the DLC proper has Chris killing Lucas outright.]]
** The Baker family other than Jack had different names before being renamed as well as having another son. Marguerite was Meg, Lucas was Kevin, and Zoe was Anna. The grandmother was actually named Marguerite before being nameless. In fact [[spoiler:the grandmother and Eveline were originally separate characters, which explains why there's a grandmother's room in the final game.]]
** The Molded looked liked a masked man before looking like a humanoid mold monster with teeth in the final version. They were also originally had hair.
** While Andre's corpse was found in the water, Ethan was to find him in the basement with no limbs, and finds a flashlight in his corpse.
