* Each of the core trio within the Original Ghouls has been the protagonist of a generation of ''Monster High''. Frankie Stein was the protagonist of G1, Draculaura was the protagonist of G2, and Clawdeen is set to be the protagonist of G3.

* NamesTheSame:
** Shortly before the series debuted, a children's book titled ''Frankie Stein'' was published, about a young boy monster built much like the Frankenstein monster.
** Invoked in-universe with Dracula- Draculaura's adoptive father is NOT the well-known Dracula. Vlad the Impaler took the title for himself several centuries after this Dracula served the Roman Empire. The two did have a conflict over it.[[note]] Technically the Roman soldier would be named "Dracul", a Roman word meaning "dragon", whereas Vlad's name "Dracula" means "son of the dragon". However, before this came up in the diaries Mattel apparently intended for the character to be THE Dracula, and no doubt even with the characters being separate, he would likely use the name as it's not only more recognizable to the public, but he'd probably be called that anyway by those familiar with the famous name.[[/note]]
** Clawdeen shares her name with a pink lion from the WesternAnimation/SheRaPrincessOfPower toy line- a result of Mattel recycling an old trademark. The same goes for Meowlody, named for a ''Toys/{{Barbie}}'' pet.
** Robecca shares her name with a one-shot robot character from ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM''.

* ''Boo York, Boo York'' is the only line of dolls include dolls of every standard body size (little sister, standard, big sister, and male.) Since the stand design is new, it is also the only line with a different stand and all of the body types.

** Of course, ''Monster High'' itself wasn't exactly immune to this. The Hanna-Barbera 1990s cartoon ''Gravedale High'' featured the usual monster stereotypes in high school, with a human teacher (voiced by and modeled after Rick Moranis) that may be a direct inspiration for Lou Zarr.

** ''Film/{{Descendants}}'' is Disney's answer to both this line '''and''' ''Toys/EverAfterHigh'', focusing on the offspring of Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon characters and specifically toplining the ones who have villainous ancestry. As it launched in 2015 and Mattel handled the toyline, some fans of either or both prior franchises believe that this was a factor in their being discontinued over 2017-18.
