* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Square-Enix seems to prefer re-releasing the UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 remake over the original UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance version, pretty much confining the original version to the latter system.

** The GBA version of the game features high-level staff voicing the Organization, except for Axel, who was voiced by professional VO artist Creator/KeijiFujiwara. For the more fully voiced UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 remake, Fujiwara was retained for Axel and other professionals were brought in to voice the rest of the Organization.

* DawsonCasting: In the remake, Sora is supposed to be fourteen since the game takes place immediately after ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', yet the voice of Haley Joel Osment sounds nothing like a kid anymore. This is because the remake was created and dubbed a couple years after ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' (when Osment had aged to be point where he couldn't pull off the voice he used in ''I'' anymore) and the dubbing team didn't decide to cast a voice double for Sora, leading to some serious VocalDissonance if you play the games in chronological order.

* RelationshipVoiceActor: In ''Re:Chain of Memories'', Kairi and Naminé, who are essentially two halves of the same whole, are voiced by Alyson Stoner and Creator/MeaghanMartin respectively. Those two also played archenemies in ''Film/CampRock''. Make of that what you will.
** In the Japanese version, via a majority of ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' voice actors, we have [[Creator/YukoMiyamura Larxene being Asuka]], [[Creator/AkiraIshida Zexion being Kaworu Nagisa]], [[Creator/KoichiYamadera Donald and several others being Ryouji Kaji]], and [[Creator/FumihikoTachiki Lexaeus being Gendou Ikari]].

* NewWorkRecycledGraphics: The [=FMV=] cutscenes for the GBA version reuse various character and environment models from the original ''Kingdom Hearts''. For the sake of consistency, these models were retained for the [=PS2=] remake.

* NoExportForYou: the [=PlayStation=] 2 remake wasn't released outside of Japan and North America until five years later when [[RemadeForTheExport the game was remastered for the PlayStation 3]].

* FanNickname: The [[spoiler:Riku Replica]] is occasionally referred to as "Repliku". It's even his official name in the D-Report in the German version.

* ActorAllusion:
** Vexen. Who would've guessed that [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Uryuu Ishida]], of all people, would become a mad scientist? Captain Kurotsuchi must've rubbed off on him.
*** Let's see, a nice person who became an [[SmugSnake Smug]] {{Jerkass}} and an [[InsufferableGenius Insufferable]] [[EvilGenius Genius]] after being corrupted by the powers of darkness. Sounds like [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Ken Ichijouji]] after he became the Digimon Emperor.
** Larxene shares many similarities to [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Asuka]], basically sharing her bad attitude but with fewer redeeming qualities and an even more damaged psychosis. Tellingly, [[WordOfGod Nomura]] said that Larxene's voice was the first one cast for ''RE:Chain of Memories'' and that Creator/YukoMiyamura was always his personal choice.

** Marluxia was originally planned to be female, hence his pink hair and feminine appearance. It was decided that having the only 2 female members of the Organization [[spoiler:conspire to forcibly overtake it]] had too many UnfortunateImplications, so the gender was changed.

* RealLife/MeanCharacterNiceActor: To say Larxene is sadistic, cruel and WouldHurtAChild would be severe understatements. Her English VA Shanelle Gray however is kind, a devoted mother and is frequently stated by her younger sister Creator/ArielWinter as an inspiring, supportive and positive role model to her. In fact, after allegations of their mother being verbally and emotionally abusive to a then-teenage Ariel became public, Shanelle successfully fought to have her removed from their mother’s care and become her new legal guardian until Ariel reached legal adult age.
