* DawsonCasting: In the remake, 19-year-old Creator/HaleyJoelOsment as 14-year-old Sora. The game is supposed to be set almost immediately after the ending of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', and the GBA version just reused archive audio of Osment's prepubescent voice from that game, but the remake was created and dubbed after ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', and even though Osment's voice had already deepened by then, the dubbing team didn't bother to cast a voice double for Sora, leading to some serious VocalDissonance if you play the games in chronological order.
* DummiedOut: The Jungle King card is in the game but cannot be obtained outside of hacking.
* FlipFlopOfGod: Nomura stated in an interview that Nobodies do not age (with the exceptions of Roxas and Naminé). ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'' appears to contradict this with Ienzo, who was in his early teens when he became a Nobody yet appears in his 20s as Zexion.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Square-Enix seems to prefer re-releasing the Platform/PlayStation2 remake over the original Platform/GameBoyAdvance version, pretty much confining the original version to the latter system.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros:
** The Diamond Dust and One Winged Angel Keyblades are in this game. They actually came from ''Final Mix'', which nobody outside of Japan saw without importing it (at least until 2013 and the ''HD I.5 [=ReMIX=]'').
** The Neoshadows, who only showed up in the original game in the secret ending, but were limited to a secret cutscene, and similarly to the above Keyblades were introduced as actual enemies in ''Final Mix''. They return in this game.
* NoExportForYou: The [=PlayStation=] 2 remake wasn't released outside of Japan and North America until five years later when [[RemadeForTheExport the game was remastered for the PlayStation 3]].
* TheOtherDarrin:
** The GBA version of the game features high-level staff voicing the Organization, except for Axel, who was voiced by professional VO artist Creator/KeijiFujiwara. For the more fully voiced Platform/PlayStation2 remake, Fujiwara was retained for Axel and other professionals were brought in to voice the rest of the Organization.
** In the ''Re:Chain of Memories'' version, Alyson Stoner plays Kairi instead of Hayden Panettiere.
** Creator/CoreyBurton voices [=DiZ=] in lieu of Creator/ChristopherLee in ''Re:Chain of Memories''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Deep Jungle was intended to have made a return, but it had to be axed because Creator/{{Disney}} lost the license to ''Literature/{{Tarzan}}''. All that's left in the game is a (DummiedOut) King of the Jungle Keyblade card.
** The Dive to the Heart was planned at some point. It presumably would've served as the gameplay tutorial, which is instead a normal conversation and fight in Traverse Town.
** End of the World was initially planned to be a world as well.
** Marluxia was originally planned to be female, hence his pink hair and feminine appearance. It was decided that having the only two female members of the Organization [[spoiler:conspire to forcibly overtake it]] had too many UnfortunateImplications, so the gender was changed.
** Before the release of the game, Derek Stephen Prince [[https://www.khinsider.com/news/Re-CoM-Casting-News-Pics-721 stated]] on his [=MySpace=] blog that Creator/ChristopherLee had reprised his role as [=DiZ=] for ''Re:Chain of Memories'', but this ended up not being the case, as Creator/CoreyBurton voiced him instead.
