Old Shame is In-Universe only

* CreatorBacklash: Ronnie consistently cites We Are the Music Makers as his least favorite album. He feels that, underneath the new production techniques, the songs themselves were subpar. Also see TroubledProduction.

* RenamedToAvoidAssociation: After Ronnie's first band Morella's Forest had their sole album disappear onto the Shelf, and after Ronnie rebranded himself as Joy Electric, a completely unrelated Christian rock band from Dayton, Ohio took on the name Morella's Forest for themselves. (Allegedly, the new band asked for Ronnie's blessing to continue using the name, and received it.) They released four albums in the 90s and 00s--several of them on Tooth & Nail Records, which was
also Joy Electric's home. Fast forward to 2021, and Ronnie's Morella's Forest album finally saw the light of day. To reduce confusion with the Ohio Morella's Forest, Ronnie's band had their name tweaked to "Morellas Forest 1988".
* TheShelfOfMovieLanguishment: Ronnie's first band, Morella's Forest, recorded a full album in 1988--but their label Narrowpath Records went out of business first. Everyone involved just moved on, until 30 years later, the former head of Narrowpath dug up the old master tapes and sent them to Ronnie. In 2021, Velvet Blue Music finally released the album Tales.
* TroubledProduction: Another aspect that
soured him Ronnie on that album: when We Are the Music Makers. When the album was over half finished, everything Ronnie recorded was somehow got deleted, forcing him to restart from scratch.

** Ronnie initially wanted Favorites at Play to be a cover album about the songs Ronnie considered most influential.

* BreakupBreakout: JE has yet to achieve mainstream popularity, but it's definitely better known than Dance House Children ever was.

* ExecutiveMeddling: There are conflicting stories about how Ronnie's third album wound up with such a confusing, long name. One story goes that after Jason left Dance House Children, Ronnie wanted to rename the band Rainbow Rider, and title their next album Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1. But his label, Siren Records, nixed that idea, worrying it would alienate their existing fanbase. As an attempted compromise, Siren mashed Ronnie's desired band name into the album title, making it officially Rainbow Rider: Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1 by Dance House Children. That Ronnie did use Rainbow Rider as the band's name for two releases on a different label (the "We'll Last So Long" 7" single, and a reissue of Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1, both on Velvet Blue Music) possibly supports this story.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The song "The White Songbook" was initially much longer. Ronnie, fearing that the song was too long and boring, cut about half of the song's lyrics--though the unabridged lyrics are included in the album liner notes.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: BlackSheepHit: "Sugar Rush" and "Drum Machine Joy" (the latter of which is HilariousInHindsight, considering Ronnie's refusal to use drum machines in almost all his albums sinceHello, Mannequin is the one exception; he used a Roland CR-78.)

Shout Out\'s not a Trivia Trope. Moving.

* ShoutOut:
** On the back cover of Rainbow Rider: Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1, there's a photo of Ronnie with vinyl records by Ronnie's musical heroes DanielAmos and 4-4-1 clearly visible in the background. The liner notes have a rambling essay that says (among other things) "Music/TheSmiths are the best band that ever lived".
** "Nikola Tesla" was a tribute to the man himself.
** "I am a Pioneer" was a tribute to Raymond Scott, Manhattan Research, "and all of the early electronic music pioneers".
** Similarly, "Sheffield Youth" was a tribute to the electronic bands from the Sheffield scene of the late '70s (the liner notes specifically mentioned The Human League and OMD).
** "Draw for Me, Creator/MCEscher", of course.
