One day, a popular boy asked her to the movies, but he never turned up; Ember ended up staying up all night waiting for him, which resulted in her sleeping through the freak fire that spread through her home and killed her. This fan-cited backstory has never been sourced. Not only does it contradict both Ember's VillainSong "Remember" (which implies that Ember died at least two weeks after the interaction) and Hartman's official stance that [[OurGhostsAreDifferent the ghosts in Danny Phantom are their own species and not the echoes of dead humans]], it also doesn't make much sense on its own either (why was there a fire and why does Ember care so much about it if it was random? Why wouldn't anybody attempt to wake her up? Also, being awake for so long doesn't suddenly mean you have hypersomnia the next time you fall asleep.).

*** She was unpopular in life but dreamed of being a rock star. After a guy asked her out but subsequently stood her up, she went home and died in her sleep when her house mysteriously caught fire.

* WriterConflictsWithCanon:Post-series, Hartman {{retcon}}ned ghosts into a ghost-''like'' species that takes the appearance of deceased people and makes human backstories for themselves. This is despite a large amount of Danny's RougesGallery have detailed backstories of once being mortal, with a few even directly mentioning their past lives.

* Tucker Foley was named after Chris Tucker and Creator/EddieMurphy's character Axel Foley from ''Beverly Hill Cops''. Jazz was named after a character from the ''Next Men'' series. Vlad is derived from Vlad Dracula III, the original inspiration for {{Dracula}}.

** The DVD sets place the episodes in production order. This isn't really a problem for Seasons 1 & 3 (in the latter's case, it even puts "Urban Jungle" in it's intended spot), but it is for Season 2 as certain episodes that took place earlier that season were produced later such as "Memory Blanked" which was the season premiere (and the episode where Danny gets his logo) but the sixth episode produced that season.

** The series was conceived as being called ''Danny Phantom and the Specter Detectors'', and would have been very different then the final product.
*** Danny was supposed to be a teenaged and otherwise normal Ghostbuster on a motorcycle with a [[UnusualPetsForUnusualPeople pet owl]] and a psychic link to Sam. Then the idea was tweaked into what it is now.
*** The motorcycle ghost idea eventually became Johnny 13.
*** The pet owl was going to be named Spooky, and would help Danny find ghosts. But ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' (particularly the films) was getting big at the time and Harry already had a pet owl, so the idea was scrapped.
*** Sam and Danny were originally meant to [[MindLinkMates share a psychic connection]] before Butch Hartman decided against it, saying only Danny should have the special powers. Back when Nick.com first launched the Danny Phantom pages with character profiles, Sam's page even mentioned this psychic connection, despite it not appearing in the show.
** Butch Hartman originally wanted Danny to be [[ChildrenVoicingChildren voiced by an actual 14-year-old]] but couldn't find anybody who sounded "heroic" enough, so [[Creator/DavidKaufman David Kaufman]] [[DawsonCasting was cast]].
** This could apply to the entire third season, as Steve Marmel allegedly wanted to get DarkerAndEdgier, following along the lines of "The Ultimate Enemy". There was even a fan project on imagining what it would be like, only it never got off the ground because they couldn't get details from Mr. Marmel. Marmel won't comment on what Season 3 was going to be about or why he was let go, mostly out of respect for his former partner Hartman.
** According to WordOfGod, Danielle was meant to be revealed to the Fenton family and become Danny's little sister. Yet another plotline that was abandoned when the series was abruptly canceled.
** The series was originally meant to end with a final battle between Danny and Dark Danny. One could argue it would have made a greater series finale than Phantom Planet.
** Vlad was originally intended to be a vampire, hence why his ghostly form heavily resembles one.
** According to writer Steve Marmel, an original RunningGag would be that Vlad's manor would blow up every time.
** The show had a vastly different intro, being sung rather than rapped. The rhythm was the same but the lyrics were not. You can watch that original intro [[https://youtu.be/JUxNZCJSMTI here]]. There's also a third version of the intro according to composer Guy Moon, one that has yet to be seen by the public.
** Some of Danny's original first names include Kenny and Davie.
** A planned toyline was cancelled due to the show's sudden cancellation.
** The LicensedGame adaptation of "The Ultimate Enemy" was released exclusively for Game Boy Advance, but was planned to also have ports for Nintendo DS, [=GameCube=], [=PlayStation=] 2, Xbox, Windows and PSP that never saw the light of day.
** The video game tie-in to "Urban Jungle" was similarly also intended to be released on multiple systems, but was ultimately released exclusively on Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS.
** According to an interview with Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Jazz was originally written to hide how smart she was and would prefer to be seen as a vapid cheerleader.

* CastingGag: In "Forever Phantom," following his PowerIncontinence, Amorpho chooses to morph for the rest of the episode into Mr. Lancer, who himself is voiced by Creator/RonPerlman, whose voice acting StarMakingRole debut was in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' as Clayface, who like Amorpho is a ShapeShifting antagonist.

* RelationshipVoiceActor: Polish dub: Creator/AgnieszkaKunikowska (Penelope) and Creator/JoannaPach (Jazz) have also worked together on ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong'' and ''WesternAnimation/BarbieOfSwanLake''.

* ContractualObligationProject: Subverted. While working on ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'', Butch Hartman wasn't under contract for any more shows, however, when he heard that Nickelodeon was looking for boys' action cartoon, he was inspired to think up the concept for ''Danny Phantom'' and pitched it to the [=CEO=], who immediately approved the project.
