* BigNameFan: Creator/NicolasWindingRefn is a huge fan of this film and cites it as a major influence and even included refences to it in ''Film/Drive'' with the Driver's famous cobra jacket.

* ExecutiveMeddling: The original cut ran for about 120 minutes with full blown X rating. Afraid the movie would be overshadowed by the then recently released ''Film/TopGun'' though, Creator/WarnerBros told Creator/SylvesterStallone to edit it down to an R rating and shorten it to its final theatrical length of 87 minutes to allow for more screenings per day, both in an attempt to attract a greater audience.

** Stallone's first draft had a lot of differences from later drafts and the film. These include the opening shootout taking place in movie theater instead of a grocery store and a lot more people getting killed, Cobra mentioning how some psychopath he was trying to catch killed his girlfriend, an additional big action sequence taking place during a night on a boat where Cobra and Ingrid are hiding when they get attacked by Nightslasher's cult members but Cobra and Gonzalez manage to kill them all, and a different ending in which it's revealed that Monte was actual leader of the New Order cult and when he tries to kill Ingrid he gets shot and killed by Cobra.

* FollowTheLeader: Cobretti clearly went to [[Film/DirtyHarry Harry Callahan's]] Boy Scout Camp as a child, and apparently loved the mentor so much that, once he grew up, he took Callahan's partner Reni Santoni, and even once again named him Gonzalez. He took Dirty Harry's villain Andy Robinson as well, though the latter is now merely a well-meaning jerk and a compulsively ByTheBookCop.

* AdaptationDecay: Supposedly adapted from Paula Gosling's novel "Fair Game", but in reality only in its most basic elements: A woman witnesses a crime without realising it and is chased by killers. The cop takes her out into the countryside to draw out the killers. And he has a partner named Gonzales.

* ShoutOut: Possibly one to ''TheShining''. When the Night Slasher attacks Ingrid in the hospital, she hides in a bathroom and locks the door, and he stabs through it while she screams. The shot looks very much like the "Heeeeeere's Johnny!" scene from ''TheShining''.
** Cobra has a partner named [[DirtyHarry Gonzales]]
