If Kevin Conroy can be believed, the game was delayed several times before it was officially announced.[[note]]Mentioned in an interview that the game was supposed to come out in January 2014, though it may have been speculation[[/note]] ''Batman: Arkham Knight'' was officially announced on March 4, 2014 and was originally intended to be released on October 14, 2014. Soon after, rumors began surfacing online that it was being delayed to 2015, which was officially confirmed by Rocksteady on June 3, 2014, with it's new release date of June 2, 2015 being confirmed on September 9. Then on March 23, 2015, it was delayed another three weeks to June 23, nearly four years after ''Batman: Arkham City''. The reason being that Rocksteady needed more time to develop the game because they were not entirely familiar with the Next-Gen toolkit and wanted to push the game to perform to its high ambitions (No loading times and a large map). This was also a reason for the PC PortingDisaster since Rocksteady's attention entirely went towards the console release and hardware.

Not only was it outsourced to a completely new developer, but it was only 12 people that worked on it. According to leaked documents from EB Games in Australia, it won't be fixed before the fall. Ironically, this means that, despite Arkham Knight being the only game not released in the fall, the PC version will still somewhat fulfill the tradition.

** Many people thought that the Arkham Knight would be the BiggerBad since his name is also the name of the game. This was not the case, and Sefton Hill confirmed that the villain was named after the game, not the other way around.

* RefittedForSequel: The game draws influence from ''Batman Triumphant'' of all things, the unmade Creator/JoelSchumacher sequel to ''Film/BatmanAndRobin''. The story in question featured Harley Quinn and Scarecrow as the main antagonists, it involved many characters in the Bat-Family, and it [[spoiler:featured Joker prominently in a number of hallucination sequences]].
