Even ''Frieza'' (after attaining a new level of power!) is scared, and humbly asks if ''Lord'' Beerus intends to interfere with his revenge. This even rubs off on Goku, who while very friendly tends to be rude and informal even with authority figures. In the dub he is also the only person that Goku addresses formally as "Lord Beerus".

* ''Manga/RosarioToVampire'':

** Pride is the oldest, cruelest and most powerful of the homunculi and is widely feared by all his siblings.

*** Zoro had to hunt pirates to get the bounties to pay for food, which caused him to be well-known long before his captain. Because of this, and before Luffy and the crew itself becomes well-known, characters often comment that it's weird for someone of his fame to be following someone like Luffy (truth is he never wanted to join, Luffy blackmailed him).

Hayate also gets this treatment in ''Force'' where the Grendel Family is afraid of her despite the fact that they're [[AntiMagic immune to magic]].

* ''{{Anime/Pokemon}}'': Whenever Ash and friends are travelling through forests, [[BeeAfraid Beedrill]] swarms and [[BearsAreBadNews Ursaring]] mobs are ''always'' a cause for serious alarm. In another episode, Petalburg Woods is eerily quiet, and the only inhabitants are a massive flock of Taillow who Ash and friends learn firsthand are [[SuperPersistentPredator not so easily driven off]], even by electric attacks. Brock speculates that all other Pokémon residing in the woods have gone into hiding because of the flock. Oddly, none of these Pokemon are particularly threatening or impressive in the games, being quite weak, but the anime never was faithful to the games anyway and they all come in swarms. Beedrill and Ursaring's ferocity in the anime seems to just be because the real life animals they are based on are feared.
** In the main series Jigglypuff is this, everyone not familiar with it reacts to the pink puff ball with CutenessProximity or confusion. Ash, Misty, Brock or Team Rocket? Epic level FreakOut mainly because it always sings when it shows up and the singing always causes everyone to fall asleep, even at the most inconvenient of times. Then there's Jigglypuff's FaceDoodling which always follows this up. It's singing is so far the only thing that has stopped the Bewear that keeps kidnaping Team Rocket.

* ''{{Anime/Pumpkin Scissors}}'': The anti-tank troop known as ''Gespenst Jager'' (roughly translating to "Ghost Hunters") are heavily implied to be this to all who are aware of their existence. A troop of genetically-altered foot soldiers designed to take out enemy tanks ''in close-quarters combat'', they have each been programmed with a hypnotic trigger that turns them into single-minded, unstoppable killing machines when activated. There's even a motto regarding them that basically amounts to "they are not your allies, and God help you if you make them your enemies."

** First we have the protagonist, Ken Kaneki, who goes from a [[ShrinkingViolet shy]], NiceGuy bookworm to a ruthless [[AntiHero anti-hero]] who terrifies even Tokyo's most hardened fighters after he is turned into a artificially created half-ghoul and then [[ColdBloodedTorture repeatedly (and brutally) tortured]] [[BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil until his mind snaps like a brittle twig.]] When he is using his Kakuja kagune ([[CannibalismSuperpower which he got from cannibalizing other ghouls]]), he is rated as an SS level ghoul by [[HunterOfMonsters the CCG]], and is noted by veteran Special Class Investigator Shinohara to be [[TheMentallyDisturbed the most unstable ghoul he's ever encountered.]] In the sequel, Tokyo Ghoul: Re, [[spoiler: he has become a CCG investigator himself under the name 'Haise Sasaki' and becomes known as the ''[[RedBaron Black Reaper,]]'' and one of the most feared investigators in the series, and becomes the first investigator since Arima to deal the One-Eyed Owl a decisive defeat. Boa Hancock, the strongest ActionGirl in the world, capable of petrifying her opponents and, like Mihawk, has yet to be injured in the present story. And last but not least, Jimbei, insanely powerful Fish-man with the power to command whale sharks and [[MakingASplash water]], and masterful in [[FantasticFightingStyle Fish-man martial arts]] besides. Post-timeskip newcomer Edward "Whitebeard Jr." Weevil keeps the tradition going; it's telling when, in spite of his [[PsychopathicManchild idiosyncrasies]], even ''Kizaru'' treads lightly around him, and Marco specifically refuses to enter the Wano Country with Weevil hunting him because he does not want to subject them to the sheer collateral damage that the man brings with him.

** [[Characters/NarutoNagato Pain]]. Jiraiya nearly shat himself when he heard that Pain had defeated Hanzo, who a younger Jiraiya had failed to defeat even with the support of his team. He goes to his Super Mode to counter Pain's power [[spoiler: but sadly it's not enough, as he didn't have enough information on it.]] Sometime later Pain makes the whole of Konoha wet their pants [[spoiler: when he effortlessly destroys the village]].

One Death Reborn Revolution and it's obvious that they're right to be.

When the Dark Kingdom's forces [[spoiler:manage to do her in in the penultimate finale of season one]], they actually start to believe their whole victory is a ForegoneConclusion. As she is immensely powerful and athletic and the most dedicated of all the Sailor Soldiers, this line of thought isn't too surprising.

Back in the East Blue, people are scared of the idea of pirates like Krieg and Arlong coming. And the Eleven Supernovas are feared due to their willingness to challenge the Emperors and the status quo and for their chaotic nature, along with their potential. When they first entered the New World, they caused so much chaos and destruction that they got lumped with the moniker "The Worst Generation."

** The admirals are this for most pirates; only the strongest of them don't immediately run screaming at the mere ''sight'' of an Admiral. ** The Yonko, otherwise known as the Four Emperors, also fall under this category, especially Whitebeard. His declaration of ownership of an island is enough to keep it out of harm’s way, and people with his mark on their back are deemed untouchable, because he is famed for going on RoaringRampageOfRevenge against anyone who has laid even one finger on his crewmen. Many characters have an OhCrap moment when they hear that the World Government decided to publicly execute one of his top commanders, [[spoiler:Portgas D. Ace,]] which meant an open declaration of war against the WorldsStrongestMan.
*** To clarify, Whitebeard is THE Dreaded, and for very good reason. WorldsStrongestMan you say? This guy so deserves his title that the World Government busts out their ''entire'' military might, including all three Admirals, just so that they even have a smidgen of hope of actually competing in a battle, let alone a prolonged war, against this guy. And he's an elderly man in his seventies, [[DentedIron far out of his prime]], and to top it off is in the advanced stages of a terminal illness and during any of his fights, has to take breathers because his heart's giving out on him, and he still easily holds that title [[spoiler:until his death]].
** Out of all of the current members of the Four Emperors, the one that stands out the most as this trope is the one who took the longest to make an official appearance: Kaido. It's stated that he was responsible for massacring Gekko Moria's original crew, which is implied to have been composed of One-Man Armies, and he managed to scare the hell out of [[spoiler:''Donquixote Doflamingo'']], to the point that when forced to face his wrath or the wrath of the aforementioned admirals, he chose the admirals. When you make ''them'' look like the ''friendlier'' option, you are this trope UpToEleven, [[spoiler:never mind that Doflamingo [[TakeAThirdOption Took a Third Option]] to not have to face either of them. And when he does show up, we find out he has a reputation for surviving dozens of his own executions without a scratch, breaking out of prison in the bloodiest ways possible, and taking up suicide attempts for fun because he's just that NighInvulnerable. Also, while abovementioned Whitebeard was dubbed the WorldsStrongestMan, Kaido is known as a ''strongest creature'']]. To hammer home how scary Kaido is, it was heavily implied that if he and Whitebeard ever got a chance to throw down, Kaido would have a very real shot at ''winning''.

** Shanks is another of the four Emperors who command utter respect. All we know about his past is that he served on Roger's crew, even having lost his arm, and having not been seen fighting in the series yet at all, his appearance at the battle of Marineford, a war that involved everyone on this list except for three or four, and his threat to turn it into a free for all between the Red-Haired Pirates, other pirates and Marines ''immediately causes the war to end'', even ''[[KnightTemplar Akainu]]'' agrees out of apparent fear of going against Red-Haired Shanks, and this was ''after'' he had forced Kaido to back off and abandon his plan to intercept Whitebeard on his way to Marineford.

** Other pirates of sufficient power can be this trope. *** In fact, Luffy himself (and by extension, his crew) has achieved this status, especially if you account in his bounty. He would be feared in every sea in the world ''except'' the New World, and even then he's already made an impression there. Case in point: Luffy's at Corrida Colosseum for a TournamentArc while wearing a ridiculous PaperThinDisguise that manages to fool (almost) everybody. There, while speaking with one of the other competitors, Luffy (being Luffy), forgets that he's incognito and proceeds to give out his real name. Everybody immediately freaks out, and only calm down when they see the sign on the back of his shirt say 'Lucy'…along with remembering rumors about him being an eight-meter tall giant. Luffy's become so infamous that practically anybody who isn't at the strength level of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (who are notable New World ''veterans'') instantly fears him. [[spoiler:He is even more this after being deemed the "Fifth Emperor".]]
