There, while speaking with one of the other competitors, Luffy ([[CannotKeepASecret being Luffy]]), forgets that he's incognito and proceeds to give out his real name. Everybody immediately freaks out, and only calm down when they see the sign on the back of his shirt say 'Lucy'... along with remembering rumors about him being an eight-meter tall giant. Luffy's become so infamous that practically anybody who isn't at the strength level of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (who are notable New World ''veterans'') instantly fears him. [[spoiler:He is even more this after being deemed the "Fifth Emperor"... and then, the Five Elder Stars confirm his Gum-Gum fruit is not what it seems, but actually a ''different'' fruit": Human-Human, model: Nika. The fruit ''itself'' is one they fear because it has a will of its own to seek freedom and liberation for all, which is anathema to the World Government's authority. Upon finding out it's Luffy who has it, knowing the man's goals and behavior align perfectly with it, he becomes target priority number one. By the end of Wano Arc, there's no longer any doubts to Luffy's feared status with him becoming a new recognized Emperor who even fanatics like Sakazuki above are wary to have a direct engagement with.]]

** The titual Chainsaw Man qualifies. Referred to as the "Devil that other Devils fear", he is immensely powerful, able to cut up the Hell Devil in a SingleStrokeBattle. But that's not the only reason. Whenever he eats a Devil, the idea or concept that spawned it [[RetGone vanishes from the world, and from everyone's memory]]. This has inclded Nazis, nuclear weapons, and AIDS. As well as concepts made for the story like a star that drove children mad, and an alternative to death.

** Kinugawa becomes paralyzed with fear when, after he kicks Kiritaka in the face, Okaya approaches him from behind reminds him how he specifically told him not to do that.

* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'': Walpurgisnacht, although only Homura [[spoiler:(and, in some timelines, Mami)]] knows how terrifying it is. Despite having apparently won the SuperpowerLottery, Homura recruits Kyouko to help fight it. [[NothingIsScarier She tells us very little about it]]--only that it's some kind of super-witch, so powerful it doesn't need to hide behind a [[PocketDimension barrier]], and the {{muggles}} will think it's some sort of natural disaster. It finally appears in episode 10, [[spoiler:in a flashback to an earlier timeline where it killed Mami and Madoka. It turns out the "dream" in the beginning of the series was Walpurgis clobbering Homura in another timeline. She loses to it yet again in the current time, and it's only destroyed when Madoka remakes ''the entire universe'' to get rid of witches entirely. Tellingly, for its [[FinalBoss battle]] in the series' [[VideoGame/MagiaRecordPuellaMagiMadokaMagicaSideStory official mobile game]], it took ''[[GondorCallsForAid almost the entire cast]]'' introduced up to that point to kill it, and even then, without a blessing from Madoka, they wouldn't have pulled it off.]]

** Then there's Adam Smasher, who's referred to explicitly as a boogeyman to all cyberpunks everywhere, and fills graveyards with incredible ease. [[spoiler:No points on guessing he'd make [[FinalBoss an actual appearance in the finale]] to do just that.]]

* ''Manga/MariaNoDanzai'': While Nozomu Okaya is rather affable to his friends, who are a gang of sadist bullies, they are terrified of incurring his wrath by stepping out of line. It also implies that he’s using the fear of what he can do to them to keep them in line and under his control.

* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'': Nanoha "Ace of Aces" Takamachi. Teana and Subaru are still afraid from her if they disobey orders ever again. Those two even admit that they are feared themselves by other people because they are trained by Nanoha, and that people are [[MistakenForBadass terrified of Yuuno]] when they just learn that he trained her. Hayate also gets this treatment in ''Force'' where the Grendel Family is afraid of her despite the fact that they're [[AntiMagic immune to magic]].

** Shanks is another of the Four Emperors who commands utter respect. All we know about his past is that he served on Roger's crew, even having lost his arm, and having not been seen fighting in the series yet at all, his appearance at the battle of Marineford, a war that involved everyone on this list except for three or four, and his threat to turn it into a free for all between the Red-Haired Pirates, other pirates and Marines ''immediately causes the war to end'', even ''[[KnightTemplar Akainu]]'' agrees out of apparent fear of going against Red-Haired Shanks, and this was ''after'' he had forced Kaido to back off and abandon his plan to intercept Whitebeard on his way to Marineford. [[spoiler: In the follow-up of the Wano arc, Admiral Ryokugyu, who up to that point had been confident in taking on the entire Wano Alliance who toppled ''Kaido and Big Mom at the same time'', to get to the Straw Hats, immediately freezes up in terror and leaves when Shanks - from islands away - uses his haki to threaten to come after him and the Marines for trying to pick the Straw Hats off while they're weak. That's the level of respect Shanks demands when you get on his bad side, and even a vicious person like Ryokugyu knows that. His "battle" with Eustass Kid and his men demonstrated exactly what happens when someone calls Shanks' bluff - Shanks initially tried to talk Kid out of fighting him, but the minute that Kid decided to use Shanks' men as collateral to provoke him, Shanks [[CurbStompBattle annihilated Kid]] in [[SingleStrokeBattle one attack]] before ordering his ship destroyed.]]

* ''Manga/BakiTheGrappler'': Yujiro Hanma makes even strongest characters in the series poop their pants in fear. His presence alone has made polar bears and lions run away like puppies. The average human reaction to him ranges from [[BringMyBrownPants wetting your pants in fear]] to [[FreakOut instinctively punching yourself in the face]] so he won't do it himself.

** There's also [[UnSorcerer Toji Fushiguro]], an OutsideContextProblem to the jujutsu world who earned his reputation as the [[MageKiller Sorcerer Killer]] through ruthless assassination, combining [[LightningBruiser blinding speed]] and his [[ICantSenseTheirPresence complete lack of cursed energy]] to tear through sorcerers before they even knew they were in his sights. Although he's long dead by the present day, the very memory of his capabilities still haunts everyone who remembers him. [[spoiler: And then he [[CameBackWrongcame back]], and the only person who could stop his unholy rampage was ''himself''.]]

* ''Manga/JujutsuKaisen'': There is no sorcerer or curse user, living or dead, who has not heard of Ryomen Sukuna. In life, the man was considered a natural disaster in human form, and his legend only grew with the centuries. Sukuna is so overwhelmingly evil that his very presence strikes fear into anyone who sees him. The moment he shows himself during the Culling Game, sorcerers from ages past, who themselves were incredibly powerful in their prime, instinctively become terrified of the King of Curses, whose sheer malice can be felt from miles away.

** All Might is a heroic version; he's so good at his job that all but the most powerful or AxCrazy villains will visibly soil themselves and run in terror whenever he shows up (not that it helps), and he won so many fights over the course of his career he single-handedly caused crime in Japan to drop to a two-decades long low.

* ''Anime/GodzillaPlanetOfTheMonsters'' has Godzilla himself, especially after it's revealed that the 50 meter individual is not the original individual. Queue the OG Godzilla, now over 300 meters tall, bursting from a mountain. Keep in mind that when the original Godzilla was a 50 meter baby, he destroyed continents with his power.
** ''Anime/GodzillaThePlanetEater'' features an even bigger bad in Ghidorah, the eponymous Planet eater: an eldritch energy being from another plane of reality that's been pulling the strings behind the trilogy for a long time, and is now sizing up Earth as a meal.

** [[BigBad Yhwach]] has labelled five individuals as Special War Powers: Ichigo, Kenpachi, Aizen, Ichibei and Urahara. All of them are considered people with the potential to determine the outcome of the Vandenreich's war against Soul Society. Ichigo's guaranteed absence during his fight with Quilge was enough to motivate Yhwach to invade early, and he goes out of his way to attempt to recruit Aizen to his side, aware that he might become an obstacle otherwise.

** ''Anime/GodzillaPlanetEater'' features an even bigger bad in Ghidorah, the eponymous Planet eater: an eldritch energy being from another plane of reality that's been pulling the strings behind the trilogy for a long time, and is now sizing up Earth as a meal.

** The only man on par with him is Ronnie Schiatto of the [[TheMafia Martillo Family]], who, while less known in the criminal underworld, scares anyone who's met him so much that they question whether or not he's even human. [[spoiler:They would be correct in that suspicion.]]

** [[spoiler:Princess Kaguya, the first chakra user, and, according to her son, the Sage of the Six Paths, the most powerful person to have ever lived. She was initially worshipped as a goddess for ending all wars, but the violent tactics she used in order to keep the peace during her time made her feared as a demoness. When Madara transforms into her in Chapter 679 after being (literally) backstabbed by Black Zetsu, Naruto and Sasuke have major OhCrap faces, indicating just how ''screwed'' Team 7 is.]]
** Post-series, [[TheHero Naruto]] and [[TheRival Sasuke]] are known as the two most powerful ninja in the world, and similarly feared as such. More than once during the light novels and even during Boruto’s time, an enemy ninja ends up crapping their pants at the mere possibility of having to take one of those two on.
