They discover the Necronomicon and the tape player, then each one of his friends and his sister are then possessed and he has to end up tearing them to shreds. He's then possessed and the Evil continues to torment him for another 24 hours before another group of people arrive. But before they do, he has to hack up Linda's head with a chainsaw and then his hand is possessed, to which he has to lop off in order to survive. The second group think he's a psycho and then he gets dropped into the cellar, where the possessed body of Henrietta almost kills him. And like before, one by one, each member of the group is possessed leaving him and Annie as the last two survivors. He then knuckles up, fights Henrietta and witnesses Annie being murdered by his own possessed hand. And then, he's sent back in time (we already know all the stuff he's gone through there). All of that happening within a matter of days for him. After he gets back to his time (not including the original ending, but the U.S. ending)? Everyone thinks he went nuts and murdered not only his friends, but his sister as well (which has lead to a huge wedge driven between him and his father). He ends up leaving his home town, wandering around for over 30 years, having meaningless sex, constantly getting drunk and high and not having any meaningful connections with people, and continuing to work the same dead-end retail job. Ash may be a bad ass, but he's a bad ass formed from days of trauma that ends up affecting him for years after.
