** Right after Emeraude's [[BalefulPolymorph horribly morphed body]] is destroyed, the Senshi have a brief vision of her lifeless body. At the same time, Demande senses her death (complete with an imagine spot of Esmeraude screaming as she falls into an abyss) and looks almost sad, murmuring her name.

** AdultFear: Usagi begging Naru to stay away from Masato Sanjoin, knowing that he's a Dark Kingdom General. And Naru refuses, because she's in love.

** In the episode where Usagi gets her first MidSeasonUpgrade, Haruna-sensei finds Naru and Umino passed out [[CherryBlossoms at the feet of a cherry tree]]. The poor woman [[AdultFear panics at the sight of her two collapsed students]] and [[BrokenTears tearfully begs]] a nearby person for medical help... Too bad said "person" is the MonsterOfTheWeek, and she knocks her out too.

* Saphir's [[spoiler:death! The guy, who's been nothing but dutiful towards his brother, Demande, finds out about Wiseman's true intentions, and tries to warn him. But because HeKnowsTooMuch, Wiseman attempts to kill him. Saphir escapes, ends up back in the hands of the sisters, but still tries to warn Demande of the danger they're in that Wiseman is using him. In the end, Wiseman kills Saphir off (in front of Demande no less) before he can spill the beans. And then the bandages on Saphir's head fall off, revealing he's truly [[HeelFaceTurn turned good/been purified on his own free will]].]] And to drive it further, [[spoiler: there's a flashback of Demande and Saphir as kids looking at flowers, and Demande promising his little brother that one day they'll see flowers on Earth and live there. Saphir's death was every bit as painful for Demande as it was for the audience, since this means he'll never get to fulfill his promises to Saphir. Also at the moment of his death, the jacket he left with Petz falls from where it's hanging on the wall and she realizes he's died.]] Damn, it's just heartbreaking.
** Normally, Usagi can heal people with her crystal and she has before. [[spoiler:By the time she arrives, however, it's too late and he's already passed on. In the [=DIC=] dub, Sailor Moon starts crying for him to hang on for Petz's sake and her helplessness is agonizing]].

** Also in Episode 69, the MonsterOfTheWeek puts Sailor Moon in a sort of trance that starts to drain her life away. The scouts can't get her to wake up. Luna leaves the scene as she has flashbacks of Usagi stuffing her face from earlier that night. Luna gets to Mamoru place and pleads with him to come save her. At first he's reluctant (because he still believes he's trying to protect her) but eventually goes and saves her when Luna tells him she's dying. This is a HopeSpot for Sailor Moon, but he just turns a cold shoulder to her again after the enemy is defeated. The rose that he used wilts and loses its petals. And ''then'' we see Mamoru on his own in the nearby river, crying and quietly saying "Usako, I'm sorry..."

** Usagi trying to cook for her family and [[LethalChef failing spectacularly]]. The mood quickly changes when it's apparent ([[RewatchBonus especially on a rewatch]]) that Usagi is doing so because it might be the last time she ever sees them. The background music stops ''cold'' and you can visibly see tears in her eyes. She ''tries'' to pass it off as just the food being bad, but that's clearly not the case.

* When being brainwashed into Black Lady, Chibi-Usa has a dream about being abandoned on her birthday. Takanori Arisawa's background music playing while she cries just makes it a thousand times worse.

* Super S might have unpopular, but episode 152 had a surprisingly powerful scene. A girl named Nanako [[OneeSama is pretty much infatuated with Rei and follows her around like a puppy]], wanting to become a {{Miko}} like her. Rei at first thinks it's funny, but later she sees it [[StalkerWithoutACrush as creepy and overbearing]], and then she snaps and says she wants Nanako to go get a life... [[spoiler:Poor Nanako hears this and is heartbroken, running away in tears. She's then captured by the Amazon Quartet, who release a Monkey-themed MonsterOfTheWeek which, in the middle of the fight, eats Nanako's Dream Mirror to power itself up... then [[http://www.soul-hunter.com/sailormoon/galleryscreencaps/152/index6.php changes her features to make itself look like Nanako]] [[KickTheDog and starts to openly mock her]], revealing that she imitated Rei because she was ProneToTears [[HeroicSelfDeprecation without any self-esteem.]] What seals the deal is that we then see a half-unconscious Nanako ''softly crying and begging the monster to stop belittling her''.]] Rei is [[ThisIsUnforgivable so pissed off]] at the enemy when she finds out that she suits up into Mars and pulls her MidSeasonUpgrade, the Mars [[KillItWithFire Flame Sniper]], alongside a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome that lets her beat the monster enough to have Moon and Chibi Moon kill it. [[spoiler:And much to the audience and the cast's relief, despite all the BreakTheCutie, Nanako gets better and is able to search for her own goals.]]

* The death of Kristen Bishop, who did the English voices of Emerald, Kaorinite, Tellu, [[ShesAManInJapan and Zoisite.]] Tears were shed when news of this broke out as they will never hear her hammy delivery again. It also makes listening to the old dub's Zoisite's death a bit harder.
* To add to the above, Denis Akiyama, voice of [[DubNameChange Malachite]]/Kunzite, died of cancer in June 2018.

* Esmeraude of all poeple saves Usagi and Mamoru by sending dark magic to distract Dimande while the pair make their getaway. Saphir confronts her for it, and she admits she's jealous of Dimande's obsession for Sailor Moon. He then commiserates with her, saying that he feels the same way.

* Even with this DarkestHour, and Usagi considers just giving up Chibi-Usa for her friends, she can't go through with it. Instead, she goes alone to meet Rubeus, fully prepared to fight him or to face a penalty for not having "the Rabbit". She goes OhCrap on seeing Chibi-Usa behind her at the rendesvous point, telling her that it's not her problem. Chibi-Usa insists that it is, as Rubeus captures them both.

* When Chibiusa brings everyone to the time door, she expects Pluto to be angry with her for breaking the rule. When Chibiusa apologizes, Pluto raises her hand, and Chibiusa gets scared, closes her eyes, and ducks a little. Pluto instead gently pats her head...

* When Chibiusa sees Neo Tokyo in ruins, she runs off calling for her mother. The Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen chase after her, frantic about where she's gone. Sailor Moon is relieved that Endymion found her, safe and sleeping.
* A more sobering Fridge moment: Chibiusa heard legends of Sailor Moon from her father, but she never realized Sailor Moon and her mother were the same.

* TheReveal that Chibiusa accidentally stole the Silver Crystal, which was why she had run away when the Black Moon invaded. Neo-Queen Serenity went searching for her, without any means of protecting herself, and got injured as a result. Wiseman forces Chibiusa to relive those memories, making her think it's her fault that her home fell, before turning the tables and making her believe it's in fact everyone else's fault, and corrupting her into becoming Black Lady.

* When being brainwashed into Black Lady, Chibi-usa has a dream about being abandoned on her birthday. Takanori Arisawa's background music playing while she cries just makes it a thousand times worse.
** The other dream/flashback could count too. Chibi-usa runs after a frog and slips in the rain when she ignores her mother's warning not to run. Her parents, because she didn't listen, refuse to help. The way Chibi-usa views this is indeed heartbreaking, as she sees it as her parents ''wanting'' her to be hurt rather than wanting her to learn to be self-sufficient (as we learn a few episodes down the road).
** Chibiusa alone could qualify. Yes, yes, she's a brat at times, but think about it. She's a five-year-old kid who's desperate to save her mother and her kingdom, but has no idea how to go about it, all the while being pursued by villains out to murder her. On top of that, it's been established that [[LonelyRichKid she was VERY lonely back home]], to the point of being terrified that no one really loves her. Underneath all that brattiness lies a lost, scared, lonely little girl who just wants to go home and have things be normal again. [[spoiler: And on top of it, her home was invaded because of something she did, and her mother was severely injured ''to protect her'', and Chibi-Usa is totally traumatized by the memories.]]

* There's a small tear jerking moment in episode 120. Chibiusa goes to Hotaru's home to find her, but it's deserted. She finds Setsuna, but instead of being happy to see her, she gets angry and tells Setsuna she hates her. On the surface, it sounds like Chibiusa just being a brat, but consider she's lost her best friend (who was kidnapped ''right in front of her'' while she was helpless to save her) and there are three people, one of whom is Setsuna, who want her dead and refuse to consider there may be an alternate solution. It gets more tear jerking when you remember just a season ago, she very nearly lost someone else extremely close to her. Chibiusa isn't angry. She's ''hurting'' because she's tired of all the trouble, all the pain, and all she wants at that moment is her best friend back.

* Super S might have unpopular, but episode 152 had a surprisingly powerful scene. And her desperate screams when [[spoiler:the Golden Crystal is taken from Helios and he disappears]].

* The end of [=SuperS=] Anime. Chibiusa and Helios promising to meet each other again, all very cute. From Helios' point of view, though, Chibiusa travelled from the 30th Century to the 20th Century ... [[FridgeHorror and you realize he has to wait a century or worse, a millenium, to see her again]]. That last hug and the strings version of "Watashi-tachi Ni Naritakute" was just very emotional.

* The whole finale of the Nehelenia arc, but especially Hotaru's battle. "Those eyes again... [[DontYouDarePityMe DON'T LOOK AT ME]] [[AngerBornOfWorry WITH SUCH EYES]]!" And Chibiusa [[spoiler: trying to revive her father in the background was painful.]] As well as [[spoiler: her ''disappearing out of existence'' in the arms of an injured, exhausted, almost defeated Usagi (pictured above is the moment when Chibi-Usa fully vanishes, leaving poor Usagi with her arms empty). It can also count as AlasPoorScrappy as well.]]

* The deaths of both [[spoiler: Aluminum Seiren and Lead Crow]] in ''Stars''. The first one has [[spoiler: Galaxia coldly executing Seiren via taking away her bracelets as she screams for mercy and dissolves in the clearly appalled Crow's arms]]. The second gives us [[spoiler: Crow softly apologizing to Seiren's memory before she's absorbed into a black hole.]]
** The real kicker with [[spoiler:Seiren's death is the whole time she's screaming and struggling with her bracelets, Lead Crow is ''holding onto her arms'' as though futilely trying to keep her bracelets in place, all the while begging Galaxia for mercy]].
** The episode after Seiren's death is a real kick, considering the dynamic between her and Crow - although Crow and Seiren had spent their time together saying that they were rivals, it was always with an [[VitriolicBestBuds undercurrent of affection,]] with no actual bite. Tin Nyanko, who shows nothing but disdain and dismissal of Seiren's memory afterwards, seems to expect that, because they'd called one another rivals, she and Crow will get along just great. Crow, however, isn't having that, being genuinely broken up over Seiren's death, and seeing Nyanko as an intruder who doesn't deserve Seiren's place.
*** Also, it's easy to see parallels to Aluminum Seiren and Lead Crow to Usagi and Rei, which just makes their whole interactions carry that much more pain, as you can almost hear Usagi and Rei having every interaction they do.

* There's a scene in the [=SuperS=] movie where Chibiusa has been captured by the villain and placed on a slowly ascending gondola. The senshi can't save her and can only watch as Chibiusa is carried away. The tearjerker comes when you see Sailor Moon's face. She is clearly horrified and trying her hardest (and failing) not to cry.
** Highlighted (at least in the English version) by Chibiusa's desperate cry of "Mom!", one of the few times where she acknowledges Usagi as such.

* Chibiusa returns with Moon, Venus and Tuxedo Kamen to Crystal Tokyo. She sees her father and runs to him joyfully; then she passes through him when trying to give him a hug. He's only a hologram because his body is in a coma from the injuries sustained during the battle.

* One from the R manga/Crystal: [[spoiler: Sailor Pluto's HeroicSacrifice, when she stops time ''knowing'' it'll kill her so she can stop Demande from destroying the universe]]. Especially when [[spoiler: it undoes Chibi-Usa/Black Lady's brainwashing, lets her morph into Sailor Chibimoon, and then the poor little girl sees Pluto's dead body and '''bawls'''. She says something to the extent of: "Pluto! Look at me, please! Open your eyes! I wanted you to see me as a Sailor Senshi! I want you to see I've grown! PLUTO, PLEASE, WAKE UP! NOOOOOOOOOOO!".]]}

* Demande's [[spoiler:death. He had finally realized that his brother was right about Wiseman and remembered his original objective (see the section of Saphir's death), and fights Wiseman to avenge Saphir and Esmeraude. When Wiseman directs two energy blades at Sailor Moon, Demande [[HeroicSacrifice jumps in front of her and is impaled]]. He dies in Sailor Moon's arms, having found his redemption and saying he'd change his ways at this point if he could, and his sacrifice shows he now truly cares for Sailor Moon. Though his love for her is unrequited she still sheds tears for him.]]

* The very first episode of the season: Rei is the first target for her pure heart and, until Uranus and Neptune return her heart crystal, the other Inners are fully convinced that she's dead. Not only are the other girls ([[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and Mamoru]]) powerless since they got caught before transforming, but Usagi had been BroughtDownToNormal after her brooch was damaged by the MonsterOfTheWeek. As Usagi watched Rei being stripped of her Crystal, she had flashbacks to a conversation that she and Rei had earlier, and since she couldn't do anything to save her, she was crying and begging for help for Rei...

* Episode 73 featured the Inner Senshi [[spoiler: being abducted by Rubeus as they tried to protect Chibi-Usa]]. And Usagi is driven to horrified tears when it happens, blaming Chibi-Usa for it, because if Chibi-Usa hadn't stolen Usagi's brooch to use her Silver Crystal, she could've saved the girls. At this moment, Usagi is so [[BerkserkerTears utterly angry]] at Chibi-Usa, she would've started ''hitting her'' had Mamoru not intervened. And all Chibi-Usa does is close her eyes and wait for it to happen, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone having realized how BADLY she screwed up.]] Fortunately, she soon gets the chance to make amends and help Moon rescue the Senshi.

* Third season climax: Hotaru's just overcome Mistress Nine and tranforms into Sailor Saturn. She explains to Sailor Moon that she is, indeed, the "Soldier of Destruction" that Uranus and Neptune feared, and calmy states that when she use her power, she will be destroyed. She then thanks them for everything, and goes off to battle Pharaoh 90. Sailor Moon is aghast, tries to power up into Super Sailor Moon--and her transformation fails because the Grail was Destroyed. She keeps trying, and each time she shouts "CRISIS MAKE-UP!" she sounds more and more desperate and pounds the pavement below her in frustration until her fist begins bleeding. Just thinking about Sailor Moon on all fours, sobbing "Why?"... Even Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, who until this moment were upset and infuriating with Sailor Moon interference, felt sorry for her. At the brink of hysterics she tries one last time and the powers of the other Senshi combine and her pure heart crystal forces itself out of her body to allow her to transform. When finished her eyes are blank with tears streaming down her face and goes to join Sailor Saturn in battle.

* The death of the Amazon Trio. [[spoiler: Fish starts to wonder who they really are, even attacking Tiger and seeing that they have no Dream Mirrors]]; later, [[spoiler: Fish has a VillainousBSOD and just sits under the rain until Usagi comes to his rescue]], and then we have the worst/best part: [[spoiler: Usagi being captured, {{Mind Rape}}d by the MonsterOfTheWeek (which was NOT sent by the Trio) and ''having her Mirror shattered'', letting out a yell of pain and almost becoming an EmptyShell. Fish's own screams of utter horror and despair is heartbreaking]]. This is followed by [[spoiler: Hawk TakingTheBullet for Fish, Fish and Tiger pulling an HeroicSacrifice to save Usagi and retrieve Chibi-Usa so they can defeat the monster, and then Helios rescuing their souls after they die.]] Really, that two-parter was MADE of this trope, and it was one of the best parts of the ''Super S'' season.

*** After losing two teammates, Sailor Venus gets yanked under ground and tortured to death while Sailor Moon tries to offer the Silver Crystal in exchange for her life. Venus still kills one at point blank range before she dies. Before Venus died, when Sailor Moon tried offering the Crystal, Venus got so angry she screamed at Usagi "''You give it to them and I'll never forgive you!''" In retrospect, we've seen how much Venus has had to sacrifice for the sake of being a Sailor Soldier and she's still dedicated to it, so she most likely legitimately would've hated Usagi if she gave them the Crystal.

* Episode 69, where Usagi thinks Mamoru dumped her for another girl [[spoiler: who turns out to be his best friend's little sister]] (this was around the time that Mamoru had recurring nightmares of marrying Usagi and a voice telling him to stay away from her or the universe would be destroyed), there's a part where Usagi is in front of the refrigerator, stuffing her face out of depression, though that's nothing compared to the scene in episode 61 where after Usagi fails at getting back together with Mamoru, she then walks down the street, stops at a phone booth, locks herself in it, and breaks down crying.

* All the Senshi, except Venus and Moon, are captured by the Black Moon. Sailor Moon is worried sick about them, and then Demande captures her as well in the BadFuture, which sends Venus into HeroicBSOD. She wakes up and finds out they're trapped on the Black Moon, in a chamber filled with bodies.

** Her friends shocked reactions, as [[StepfordSmiler Minako's awesome ability to hide her pain]] meant that they had ''no idea'' their friend [[BrokenAce had serious emotional and self-esteem issues in spite of her larger-than-life abilities and persona]], problems that were being made worse by [[BroughtDownToNormal her power loss persisting even after they had already recovered their powers]] (something else they didn't know: they were convinced Minako had either already recovered her powers so fast it wasn't even worth mentioning or hadn't lost them at all) until she suddenly shouted at them out of nowhere. Especially because they were continuously mentioning the Outers because, with what they knew, calling for reinforcements was the sensible decision... But when they simply suggested it Minako refused for no apparent reason.

* Episode 110 (Michiru and Haruka's [[spoiler: Talismans appear]], and the famous hands scene where Haruka angsts as she considers herself tainted, and Michiru comforts her. The second is made sadder because it's followed several scenes in which the saddened Inners recall how they've tried to talk to them to no avail.

* Third season climax: Hotaru's just overcome Mistress Nine and tranforms into Sailor Saturn. She explains to Sailor Moon that she is, indeed, the "Soldier of Destruction" that Uranus and Neptune feared, and calmy states that when she use her power, she will be destroyed. She then thanks them for everything, and goes off to battle Pharaoh 90. Sailor Moon is aghast, tries to power up into Super Sailor Moon--and her transformation fails because the Grail was Destroyed. She keeps trying, and each time she shouts "CRISIS MAKE-UP!" she sounds more and more desperate and pounds the pavement below her in frustration until her fist begins bleeding. Just thinking about Sailor Moon on all fours, sobbing "Why?"... Even Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, who until this moment were upset and infuriating with Sailor Moon interference, felt sorry for her. At the brink of hysterics she tries one last time and the powers of the other Senshi combine and her pure heart crystal forces itself out of her body to allow her to transform. When finished her eyes are blank with tears streaming down her face and goes to join Sailor Saturn in battle.

* As Mistress 9/Hotaru becomes more schizophrenic, Dr. Tomoe thinking back to Hotaru as a child with him. He cries at the memory and apologizes profusely.
** Don't forget the scene in which we learn ''why'' is this happening. [[spoiler: The then-normal Tomoe and Hotaru were caught in an experiment GoneHorriblyWrong that made Tomoe's original lab go KABOOM, killing Tomoe's assistants (and apparently, Hotaru's mother Keiko). A badly injured Tomoe found a dying Hotaru and crosses the DespairEventHorizon, screaming that he'd do anything to save his daughter's life. Then, Pharaoh 90 appears and offers him a DealWithTheDevil to save her...]] And the way the scene is set up is brilliant as well as heartbreaking: [[spoiler: the flashback is actually Hotaru's [[PastExperienceNightmare bad dreams]]. She's herself for a while instead of the DarkMessiah, is taking a nap in her "throne", and as she sleeps she recalls the very moment that changed her and her father's life for the worse...]]

* Episode 110. The Death of Neptune. SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic. No more words.

* The episode where Ami feels like she is only valued for her intelligence. That on its own is depressing, but the big tear jerker comes when when Ami gets captured and has her pure heart crystal shot out. Sailor Moon tearfully pleads with the MonsterOfTheWeek to return it, explaining how important Ami is to her and everyone else. Becomes a bit SugarWiki/{{Heartwarming|Moments}} because Ami hears every word she says.
** (From another troper) In episode 97, Ami has severe self-doubts. After a pep-talk from Mamoru and regaining her self-esteem after a swimming race with Michiru, she is attacked by a daimon. Sailor Moon tries to save her, but is incapacitated, and has to watch helplessly while the daimon takes out Ami's heart. She begs it to leave Ami alone, because she has beautiful dreams and because she's her dear friend (the Mexican dub even uses "best friend"). Ami hears it and starts crying.
*** In addition to that Sailor Moon also states that Ami deserves to fulfill her dreams the most because she works harder than anyone to achieve them.
* There's a small tear jerking moment in episode 120. Chibiusa goes to Hotaru's home to find her, but it's deserted. She finds Setsuna, but instead of being happy to see her, she gets angry and tells Setsuna she hates her. On the surface, it sounds like Chibiusa just being a brat, but consider she's lost her best friend (who was kidnapped ''right in front of her'' while she was helpless to save her) and there are three people, one of whom is Setsuna, who want her dead and refuse to consider there may be an alternate solution. It gets more tear jerking when you remember just a season ago, she very nearly lost someone else extremely close to her. Chibiusa isn't angry. She's ''hurting'' because she's tired of all the trouble, all the pain, and all she wants at that moment is her best friend back.

* The death of the Amazon Trio. [[spoiler: Fish starts to wonder who they really are, even attacking Tiger and seeing that they have no Dream Mirrors]]; later, [[spoiler: Fish has a VillainousBSOD and just sits under the rain until Usagi comes to his rescue]], and then we have the worst/best part: [[spoiler: Usagi being captured, {{Mind Rape}}d by the MonsterOfTheWeek (which was NOT sent by the Trio) and ''having her Mirror shattered'', letting out a yell of pain and almost becoming an EmptyShell. Fish's own screams of utter horror and despair is heartbreaking]]. This is followed by [[spoiler: Hawk TakingTheBullet for Fish, Fish and Tiger pulling an HeroicSacrifice to save Usagi and retrieve Chibi-Usa so they can defeat the monster, and then Helios rescuing their souls after they die.]] Really, that two-parter was MADE of this trope, and it was one of the best parts of the ''Super S'' season.

* Episode 164 - [[spoiler: Pegasus returns to his body as Helios. Chibi-Moon and Helios are about to be pulled apart from each other, but grab each others' hands, and Helios yells "Chibi-Usa-chan!"]] and Chibi-Moon says "That's the first time you've said my name .." And her desperate screams when [[spoiler: the Golden Crystal is taken from Helios and he disappears]].
* Episode 132, where Usagi covers Mamoru from the RubberWoman MonsterOfTheWeek, which results in her almost suffocating to death as Mamoru desperately screams her name all over.

* The deaths of a few of the Witches Five also qualify as well. [[spoiler: Eudial]], simply because she was [[spoiler: Mimette]]'s ''butt monkey'' and was the victim of many a prank. [[spoiler: Viluy]], because she devoted her life to her machines, even as she vanishes, Mercury says "Poor girl..." and lastly, [[spoiler: Mimette]], who even had a brief HeelFaceTurn when thinking of not being a bad person anymore. Although she technically didn't die, [[http://www.soul-hunter.com/sailormoon/galleryscreencaps/120/index6.php she's simply stuck inside a giant tv]] when [[spoiler: Tellu]] pulls the plug with her inside... which is a FateWorseThanDeath.

* Sailor Moon is urged to destroy [[spoiler:the cauldron from which Chaos arises. If she does, she'll obliterate it and prevent future villains from arising. But, as she realizes, it will also destroy life. Instead, she decides to TakeAThirdOption and sacrifice herself to the Cauldron, purifying it. Fortunately, this leads to her, the Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen being reborn in Crystal Tokyo. For the Sailor Quartet, however, as they watch they are horrified that Usagi died in front of them.]]
