* The Gran Brujo tells Rico and his daughter, the Gran Bruja, to protect each other before he dies. However, immediately afterwards, the Gran Bruja exiles poor Rico. Gets worse in that there's no doubt she did that out of jealousy on top of what Rico accidentally did. [[AllThereInTheManual The series’ art book reveals]] that Rico is Gran Brujo’s grandson and Gran Bruja’s nephew. This fact alone makes all of this even ''worse''; he accidentally killed his grandfather, and was abandoned and exiled by his aunt, who was probably the only living family he had left.
