Stan Laurel was absolutely ''crushed'' by Ollie's death, and it was even worse when he realized he couldn't act anymore. A little excerpt from his obituary shows the evidence:

After that, Stan realized he would never act again, but he did write gags and sketches for fellow comedians. "Aren't you Oliver Hardy?" the fan asked. Laurel obliged, claiming he was indeed Oliver Hardy. The fan then asked whatever happened to "the other guy". Laurel tellingly replied: "Oh, him?
