* The airplane rising out of the front field of the training house looks suspiciously like the Franchise/XMen's jet and the Mutant Academy.

Sounds an awful lot like the novel ''Literature/RainbowSix'' by Tom Clancy.
*** Or Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, or Moonraker, or. . . hell, pick a Bond-esque villain, any Bond-esque villain.
** One of the books in the ''Tom Clancy's Literature/NetForce'' series also contains an atmospheric superweapon that uses ELF frequencies to drive people mad across a wide area.
