* There are a number of subtle references to Franchise/MetalGear in the Descent DLC. Not only is Lieutenant Renn an Expy of Solid Snake (right down to the nerding out on weird topics and being voiced by Creator/DavidHayter), but you go through and collect literal metal gears along the way.

* There's one which is only found if you take the Elite Clientele perk (found in the Connections category). Once you've taken the perk, leave Skyhold and return, then go down to the basement, to what looks like an unused banquet hall.To access that area, go through the first door toward Josephine's office, then turn left and go down the stairs. You now have a massive vault filled with piles of (untouchable) gold coins! The ShoutOut comes in when you notice that there's a random top hat sitting on one of the piles, making it look as though Scrooge McDuck has gone swimming in the Inquisition's coffers.

* A codex entry at the ritual tower in the Western Approach contains several references to the Franchise/Transformers franchise, including the phrase "more than meets the eye," large living metal creatures that seek a glowing mineral, "deceptive icon" (Decepticon), a position that is "hardly optimal (primal energy burned)" (Optimus Prime / Optimus Primal), skies that quake (Skyquake) and stars that scream, that the glowing mineral is the "energy on (Energon) which it survived," and mentions of a "gentle autocrat" (Autobot). The codex also mentions a "Mage Atronis," which is an anagram for "Is Megatron."

* A *This codex entry at the ritual tower in the Western Approach contains several (regarding large living metal creatures that seek a glowing mineral) is full of references to the Franchise/Transformers franchise, including franchise:
--> And as I walked in
the phrase "more desert, I saw a great armored figure whose form blotted out the sky. At first I took it to be no more than meets met the eye," large living metal creatures that seek eyeThe Transformers Franchise tagline, "More than Meets the Eye", a glowing mineral, "deceptive icon" (Decepticon), simple spiked statue, but as I approached, this deceptive iconDecepticons transformedTransformers themselves, natch into a warrior as graceful as it was massive, its bladed staff leveled at me with energy crackling from its tip. Though my position that is "hardly optimal (primal energy burned)" (Optimus Prime / Optimus Primal), skies that quake (Skyquake) was hardly optimal (primalOptimus Prime/Optimus Primal magic burned a few feet from my face), I kept my wits and [[TheStarscream asked this mighty golem to show me mercy.\\\
The armored figure spoke with a voice to make the sky quakeSkyquake and the [[TheStarscream
stars that scream]], that scream]]. It sought magic to keep itself alive, it said, and the glowing mineral is blood of the "energy on (Energon) earth was the energy onEnergon which it survived," survived. Having knowledge of the dwarves and mentions of a "gentle autocrat" (Autobot). The codex also mentions a "Mage Atronis," which is an the lyrium they provided to our mages, I directed the golem to the mage AtronisAn anagram for "Is Megatron."Megatron", who lived in nearby Perivantium, and it left without another word.\\\
That is the inspiration for the gate guardians I have designed, as fanciful a tale as it might seem. As for why I have asked that each guardian cast from my designs be inset with a small lyrium rod, I must primarily state that it is mere fancy. If Archon Ishal, gentle autocratAutobots that he is, sees fit to ensure that my statues are known across the empire—I hear that one shall stand in the Western Approach—I would treasure the small hope that someday, I might see one walk again.\\\
—A tale told by Appius Trius, famed sculptor whose creations all sparkedThe Allspark the imagination of those who beheld them, from Artists of Ancient Tevinter

* Dorian's family betrothed him to a young woman named Livia Herathinos, before he fled Tevinter. He mentions that she is extremely intelligent and scathing as well as beautiful, and was about as keen on the engagement as he was. perhaps Dorian dodged a bullet in more ways than one.
