* Sofia has also held the JerkassBall on occasion, the crowning moment being when she accussed a movie theater of being racist for kicking her out when she had actually been drunk and disruptive (along with Elliot and Yolanda). Not to mention, she's been called out for acting like she's better than Gabi at times.

* OverprotectiveDad: Gabi's father didn't make it a secret that he didn't like the relationship between Josh and Gabi because he thought Josh (who is Gabi's employer) was taking advantage of her.

The premise of the story is about food blogger Gabi finding a job as the personal chef for Josh in order to get out of poverty with her friend Sofia. Using some incredible skills that allow her to tell what people around her would like to eat the most, she proves herself to Josh (with a simple grilled cheese sandwich he found exquisite). Unfortunately, Josh's aide Elliot would rather prefer Josh to have a famous chef instead of a unheard of blonde girl like Gabi, so she decides to truly prove herself to Josh, while also avoiding any personal feelings and advances she develops for him with their ridiculously high chemistry. ** Logan is a corporate-boss version, especially after she hires Sofia to work for her. She makes her due numerous insane tasks which includes waking her up at 4:00am to make her deliver a bottle of Kompucha.

* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: In "Young & Pretty Woman", [[spoiler:Gabi stupidly turns on the microphone at the audio room and lets everyone and Cooper in the karaoke bar know without meaning to that she truly loves Josh more than Cooper. Utterly heartbroken, Cooper reveals to Gabi that Josh was sure she was the one the same day he broke up with Caroline three months ago and only made her dating with Cooper more miserable because he kept holding back, ending up with all three of them at odds with each other]].

* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Gabi's mother died prior to the series. She and her daughter were very close,she was the one who taught Gabi how to cook in the first place, and they used to watch Julia Child together when Gabi was a kid.

* EiffelTowerEffect: This mainly pertains to the pilot but the view of the Golden Gate Bridge pretty much right next door from Josh's Penthouse is impossible. The bridge is located in the northern part of the city which mainly contains the Presidio National Park. No tall buildings exist there. Most of the tall buildings are in the west part of the city. The Bay Bridge however would be more realistic. The post pilot episodes put the bridge much farther away but it's still questionable.

* GossipEvolution: The plot in "Young and Pregnant." Gabi's (messed up) pregnancy test winds up in the trash, which is found by Yolanda who thinks Caroline is pregnant with Josh's baby. Ironically, elsewhere, Josh winds up mishearing Caroline's talk over the phone with his father saying she has a baby for Josh, when in truth the baby she was talking about was [[spoiler:a pony named Juju Jr as a gift for Josh]].

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In "Young & Old", Gabi repeatedly makes Elliot's 40th birthday worse. She reveals to his crush Andre that he's 40 when he thought he was 32 which ends up making him dump Elliot, reveals to his parents that he's gay which they don't like, and finally picks Elliot's long-lost crush from school which she confuses with another one with a different last name. [[spoiler:She does manage to make the wrong person reconnect with Elliot]].
** Josh's personal mission to make Yolanda stop seeing her ex-husband in fear of him breaking her heart again [[spoiler:ends up backfiring spectacularly on his face when his discussion to him (while overheard by Yolanda behind the desk) ends up making both of them tie the knot once more]]. Elliot [[LampshadeHanging repeatedly reminds Josh how his involvement helped his fears to come true.]]

* UltimateJobSecurity: Gabi has muddy up both Josh's personal and professional life on numerous occasions, started a relationship with Cooper despite Josh not wanting it, tried to meddle with his family relationships despite being told not to and acting very unprofessional in general. Despite being a very talented chef, anyone else would have fired her by that point.

* SpicyLatina: Sofia.

The series has been renewed for a second season after its moderate success and ran for five seasons. A series finale movie was planned but got cancelled as well as a Sofia spin-off.

* HumanMail: In "Young and Couchy", Gabi steals Jim's desk and mails it eith herself hiding in the box to where Yolanda's house is in San Francisco in order to patch up their relationship.

* YourCheatingHeart: At the drop of a hat, Gabi has sex with her boss after consoling him when he thinks his girlfriend dumped him. Later, this is averted spectacularly when Caroline explains she slept with someone else, and then Josh also explains he slept with someone else... which ''turns her on'' and rekindles her love with him, [[LampshadeHanging which she admits she finds to be strange]]. This is spectacularly subverted with Josh thinking it's best if Caroline didn't know it was the chef he just hired that he slept with. The second episode deals with him trying to keep the security footage from her.

** Gabi's anger at Josh for selling her brokedown car in "Young & Carless" is due to the fact that the car was handed down to her by her mother; that gesture was the last memory Gabi had of her mother before she died.
