''Word of Honor'' (山河令: ''Shān Hé Líng'') is a 2021 Chinese series starring Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun. It's loosely based on the novel ''Literature/TianYaKe'' (天涯客: ''Tiān Yá Kè'', also called ''Faraway Wanderers'') by Creator/{{Priest}} (author of ''Literature/ZhenHun'' and ''[[Literature/ShaPoLangNovel Sha Po Lang]]'').

* PapaWolf: Wen Kexing, for Gu Xiang. He also has hints of being an OverprotectiveDad, as shown by his reaction when he sees Cao Weining talking to Gu Xiang.

* WhipItGood: A whip is one of Gu Xiang's main weapons.

Zhou Zishu decides to quit his job as leader of an organization that protects the royal family and sets off to travel the world. Along the way he gets embroiled in a conspiracy in the martial arts world and meets Wen Kexing, a mysterious martial artist on a mission to avenge his parents’ deaths.

* ActionGirl: Gu Xiang can hold her own in a fight.

* AmbiguouslyBi: Even with censorship there's more than enough subtext to suggest that Zhou Zishu likes Wen Kexing. Jing Beiyuan, Zhou Zishu's old friend, comments on how he tried to bring women to Zhou Zishu, hinting that Zhou Zishu swings both ways.

* BuryYourGays: At first it looks like it'll be played straight, but then it's completely inverted. [[spoiler: Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing become immortal and have been living on the snow mountain for at least a decade happily.]]

* ButNotTooGay: Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing are the novel's OfficialCouple. Thanks to China's censors, their relationship is changed to friendship in the series -- though the subtext still exists, and the series makes their romance as obvious as possible.

* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: As a child Wen Kexing lost his parents, ended up in the Ghost Valley, and was personally [[TrainingFromHell trained]] by the former Master of Ghost Valley. Because of this he's indifferent to violence and bloodshed.

* CryLaughing: Zhou Zishu does this while talking to a hallucination of Jiu Xiao.

* CurbStompBattle: Wen Kexing defeats an entire group of men on his own.

** Zhou Zishu starts drinking after he leaves Tian Chuang and again after his fight with Wen Kexing.
** Wen Kexing also gets drunk after the fight.
* DualWielding: Gu Xiang wields two swords when she attacks Mo Huaiyang.

** Wen Kexing wears red eyeshadow when he's acting as the Master of Ghost Valley.
** Also worn by the Scorpion King.
* EyeScream: Wen Kexing tears out Mo Huaiyang's eyes before he kills him.
* FakingTheDead: Wen Kexing fakes his death. [[PoorCommunicationKills Unfortunately he doesn't let Zhu Zishu in on the plan]], so Zhu Zishu thinks he really is dead.

* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler: Gu Xiang]] smiles just before she dies.

* LaserGuidedKarma: Mo Huaiyang kills [[spoiler: Gu Xiang and Cao Weining]], and promptly gets killed by Wen Kexing.

* LockedIntoStrangeness: Wen Kexing's hair turns white after he saves Zhou Zishu.
* LostInTranslation: Many of the cultural references, subtext and poetry are lost in the translation, as many English words failed to bring the true meaning. Several Chinese fans on Tumblr have explained and translated some of the references for overseas fans.
* MasterOfDisguise: Zhou Zishu. For a decent portion of the story, he wears a fake face to hide his true identity. However, this doesn't hide his skill as a martial artist from a prominent sect, which is one of the reasons Wen Kexing becomes so interested in him.

* ProfessionalKiller: Zhou Zishu used to be one when he led the Window of Heaven.

* TheSoCalledCoward: Chengling is often dismissed and belittled for of his inexperience and because he's the weakest character in the series. But he's far from a coward, as shown when he shields a stranger with his body from an incoming stab and withstands being tortured by two assassins.
