* MoodDissonance: The "Rowley Birkin QC" monologues are generally unintelligible but very funny anecdotes. One, however, seems to be about a woman he was in love with during WW2, and who apparently died. The whole scene is melancholy, and the final line "I held her in my arms... (long pause)... I'm afraid I was very drunk." is unutterably sad.

* WriteWhoYouKnow:
** Simon Day admits to basing "Competitive Dad" on a man he saw at a public swimming pool, who challenged his children to a race and then swam away at top speed leaving them to struggle behind him.
*** This inspiration formed part of the very last Competitive Dad sketch, where we see a video recording of Competitive Dad's own father doing it to him as a child.
** Rowley Birkin QC was based on a similarly incomprehensible (English) person Paul Whitehouse met in Iceland - although his style also owes something to ventriloquist Ray Alan's puppet Lord Charles.
** One of Arabella Weir's characters is a woman who suggests something to a group of arguing men, only for them to totally ignore her and hear the suggestion [[GladIThoughtOfIt as though one of them had made it]]. This, as Whitehouse and Higson wryly realised on reading the first sketch, was her commentary on how they tended to treat her in script meetings.
** Insecure Woman was suggested to Weir by the others, based on herself.
** Swiss Toni was apparently based on several different real car salesmen.
** The Suit You Tailors were based on a real person, but oddly enough, a bank manager rather than a tailor.

* StickyFingers: Chris the Crafty Cockney, who constantly reminds people that he's 'a geezer' and will 'nick anything'. Due to his upfront nature, a lot of people don't believe him, only for him to immediately steal their belongings and run off with them. One sketch implies that he really is a kleptomaniac - his friend asks him to watch his stall for him, and, despite Chris telling him repeatedly that their friendship won't stop him stealing his stuff, he leaves Chris their unattended. Sure enough, Chris steals his money, but he doesn't look happy as he does so.

* TheWoobie: Several characters are woobies some or all of the time.
** Ralph is a major woobie; you just spend the whole time wanting to hug the poor thing. The most woobie-ish moment without a doubt is when Ralph and Ted start talking about the time he ended up in the hospital:
---> '''Ralph''': A lot of people are frightened of... mental illness.
---> '''Ted''': Your parents told everyone you had the flu, sir.
---> (Both wipe their eyes.)
** Ted is a woobie too after his wife dies.
** Archie, the pub bore, clearly just wants someone to talk to. He mentions that his dog is sick, and, at one point, he tells someone that he's thought about committing suicide, 'but the words of Frank keep coming back to me in my hour of need'. It becomes worse when you realise that the songs he always goes on about clearly mean something to him, if they have actually saved his life.
** Rowley Birkin is a woobie in the sketch were he talks about a woman he loved dying. When he finishes, he says his catchphrase in a sad, quiet voice, and there is an agonised look in his eyes as the camera slowly pans backwards.
---> '''Rowley''': And I held her in my arms... (Agonising pause; Rowley looks so sad) ... I'm afraid I was very drunk.

** A good example of this is when Ralph is out shooting in the grounds with Clive, a fellow landowner. Added DiffLines:

Cue Arthur miming horrendously to a voice that sounds nothing like his own, and tap-dancing on the grass.
* VomitDiscretionShot: When the Offroaders go on a Survival Expedition, they end up eating mushrooms that are probably toxic, judging by the way Simon is tripping and calling himself the Mushroom God. In the background, Lyndsay is doubling over, and the sound of him retching can be heard.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Part 2 of the Last Fast Show Ever special features four of the cast playing annoying young people in a Cheesy Peas advert.
