Still Games origins begin In 1998, where the characters of Jack and Victor appeared in a number of skits in a tongue-in-cheek documentary about Scottish pop music called ''Och Around the Clock''. In these, they are shown to be watching while sitting in Victor's flat. Their skits centred on the duo's disparaging comments about the performers. The characters reappeared in Kiernan and Hemphill's sketch show ''Chewin' the Fat'', nearly every episode of which featured Jack, Victor, Tam and Winston, with minor differences from their counterparts in the series. When ''Chewin' The Fat'' came to an end in 2002, ''Still Game'' was given the go-ahead for its own series.

Running for six series from 2002 to 2007, ''Still Game'' began as a stage play starring Kiernan, Hemphill and Gavin Mitchell (who would later be replaced by Paul Riley; all four would have major roles in the television adaptation) before the characters appeared in comedy sketch series ''Series/ChewinTheFat'' (again starring Kiernan and Hemphill).

The first, second and third series were [[NoExportForYou originally broadcast in Scotland]] but all further episodes were broadcast across the UK on Creator/{{BBC}}2 until the show concluded in 2007 due to disagreements between Kiernan, Hemphill and Paul Riley over control over their production company, Effingee Productions. Receiving very high ratings and critical acclaim, Series/StillGame dealt with a broad array of BlackComedy and poignant moments and is among the most popular Scottish television productions ever made.

In October 2013, it was announced that Hemphill and Kiernan would be returning to make a new series. In the wait, a new stage play was released, followed a short special made for Children in Need in 2014. The show was officially revived with the seventh series which aired in 2016. * KillEmAll: The rather somber ending to the show. The final episode ends with a montage of each of the main characters fading out of frame - flashing forward to the inevitable time in the future when they won't be around anymore but everyday life in Craiglang will go on. The final scene shows the inside of The Clansman with a new set of regulars but with a much older Boaby, the only living character left, behind the bar.

* TraumaCongaLine: The episode "Dead Leg: Part 1" has been nothing but torture porn for Tam. First, he made one insult too many after conning Boabby for a free drink, he snapps and bans him from the Clansman. Next, he starts eating and drinking in Navid's place without paying that resulted in him betting banned as well (He does shifts their, so Navid basically fired him as well). It doesn't help that Jack & Victor kept [[WithFriendsLikeThese laughing]] at his torment. Isa was no help at all and just emotionally blackmailed him into visiting Winston, and she's the one who gave Tam the bad advice to "BeYourSelf"; that resulted in Winston roaring at Tam out of his life [[KickTheDog declaring he has a black heart and throwing his shoes at him, screaming that their friendship is over.]] Tam just can't help the [[TheScrooge way he is.]] And when he apparently dies, nobody could think of anything nice about him; Navid, Boabby and Winston can't see Francis because of the [[PartingWordsRegret way the've been treating him]] while Jack and Victor don't know anything about Tam besides him a "miserable bastard" at his eulogy.
