* AlwaysChaoticEvil: The Phantoms are born from despair and their goal is to make humans despair and cause them to create more Phantoms, killing the human in the process. So far, no Phantom objects to it and they all in some way do this either because it's their job or out of sheer glee. Some Phantoms ''do'' object to forcing despair onto Gates... though only because they want to ''kill'' them rather than make them depressed. Even the heroes' Phantoms have shades of evil in them, like with Dragon only allowing Haruto to use the Dragon Forms because that way there's an easier chance for him to break out of Haruto. [[spoiler:though later in the show, they become the sole exceptions, with Dragon being made out of pure hope]]. Oh, and if you're clinging onto the hope that Phantoms can be good, the show goes out of its way to show that either the Phantoms just ''fake'' having the memories of the kind humans they once were or in the case of one Phantom, [[spoiler:was evil to begin with, and thus was able to keep their humanity when he became a Phantom]].
