to:

When Hajime's house is destroyed, a mock trial is held by Monomi and the students to find out who the bomber was. However, it is merely a prelude to the real murder that occurs days later when Mukuro Ikusaba is found beaten and shot. This Trial was received a Two-Parter.
Sequel

Added DiffLines:

* AccidentalMurder: Komaru shot Mukuro while trying to save her from Izuru Kamakura
* ActionPrologue: The trial uniquely featured a mini trial set before the actual murder that the participants had to solve.
* BigBad: Izuru Kamakura acts as one, having received the Escape Switch from Literature/DanganronpaIf and using it as a tool to reawaken the memories of the other former Ultimate Despairs.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Hajime, Nagito, Peko, Nekomaru, and Fuyuhiko turn out to be Ultimate Despairs, with Kazuichi in the process of regaining his memories too during the trial.
* DarkerAndEdgier: The trial is designed to make the ending with a Mass Execution the happier option.
* DownerEnding: Komaru is executed for an accidental murder, leaving the Despairs free to continue wreaking havoc and convert more of the students to their cause.
* TheExtremistWasRight: Nagito's attempt to blow up Izuru in his own cottage would've saved a lot of trouble if successful.
* HeroicSacrifice: Many of the students attempt one, intentionally voting incorrectly to mass-execute the Despairs along with themselves
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Most of the remaining unbrainwashed students agree to attempt a mass execution, although there are enough holdouts that the Despairs are able to get Komaru voted up.
* NeutralNoLonger: After playing both sides, Nagito decides to rejoin the Ultimate Despairs when they win the trial.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Sonia decides to press the strange button that Byakuya found without giving Nagito a chance to warn her of how bad that'd be.
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: Hajime, Nagito, Peko, Nekomaru, and Fuyuhiko.
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: Mahiru and Kazuichi choose to willingly join the Ultimate Despairs and regain their memories rather than sacrifice themselves.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Surprisingly, Nagito proves to be one among the Ultimate Despairs, having made an attempt on Izuru's life to at least give the other students a chance of taking them down.
* TookALevelInCynic: Makoto takes one when he decides that the Ultimate Despairs are too big of a danger to be kept alive.
* TheWorfEffect: Although Mukuro was able to take down Peko, Fuyuhiko, and Nekomaru, Izuru proves to be too much for her.

Added DiffLines:

The Ultimate Despairs have taken over Jabberwock Island. But when a single night results in 4 deaths, another face-off ensues

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Aoi Asahina has joined the Ultimate Despairs after being brainwashed by Izuru making use of [[Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool Ryota Mitarai's]] Animator Talent to create a Brainwashing Video.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Possibly the darkest trial in the site's history, featuring cannibalism and torture
* DwindlingParty: Byakuya, Toko, and Hagakure end up being the only survivors after winning the trial.
* HeroicSacrifice: Makoto, Ibuki, Nagito, and Chiaki perform more successful ones this time, forcing a Mass Execution
* IAteWhat: Chiaki is force-fed a meat dish made from Mahiru's dead body.
* ShootTheDog: Makoto's allies decide to kill two more Ultimate Despairs to get another chance at a trial.
* StupidEvil: Hina was told to prove her brainwashing successful and chose to kill another Despair, leaving them down a critical vote for the trial.
** Fuyuhiko and Peko also indulge in this when Peko gets accidently killed by a confused Hagakure while they were framing him for one of the murders Makoto's allies had committed, needlessly costing them another vote and giving Hagakure more incentive to go along with Makoto's plan.
* TakingYouWithMe: When Izuru manages to survive Junko's execution and wounds her, she decides to blow up the courtroom with them both inside.
* XanatosGambit: While they likely had enough votes to win the trial either way, Makoto, Byakuya, and Toko take steps to hide which of them actually killed Kazuichi and Sonia, even lying to their own allies about it.

* SympatheticMurder: Akane
* VaryingCompetencyAlibi: Although some question Akane's ability to effectively cover up a murder, she defies this in the end.

An operational helicopter appears on Jabberwock Island, only to end up crashing with Mukuro and Sonia inside.

Added DiffLines:

* CooperationGambit: In the end, knowing that Sonia has been released from the Neo World Program, Gundham and Kazuichi agree to put aside their rivalry until they find a way for everybody else to escape.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: Gundham's claims of seeing water turn black turn out to be accurate instead of being one of his usual delusions. He's also the one who accuses Mahiru when she was closest to winning.
* DeathIsCheap: It is revealed that the culprit will win the right to set one player free from the virtual world and that the victims are being kept alive elsewhere so that they can be set free as well.
* TheDogBitesBack: Mikan made an attempt to poison Hiyoko.

* PoisonedChaliceSwitcheroo: Gundham swaps around some drinks he believed to be poisoned.
* SadisticChoice: With the reveal of the motive and knowing that they won't be executed for voting wrongly, the players are given the choice of either: 1. Executing Mahiru to guarantee that Mukuro and Sonia will wake up or 2. Letting her live and trusting that Mahiru'll use her reward to save Sonia, knowing that it will kill Mukuro and that Sonia will die if Mahiru breaks her word.
* SympatheticMurderer: Mahiru only intended to kill Sonia and use the motive to resurrect her outside of the Neo World Program.
* TakeCareOfTheKids: After losing the trial, Mahiru asks Gundham to look after Hiyoko. Gundham agrees, but notes that his role in exposing Mahiru will probably make Hiyoko unlikely to accept that.
* TeamMercyVsTeamMurder: When the truth behind the murder and the motive are revealed, a debate ensues over whether to spare Mahiru from execution or not.
