* GrammarCorrectionGag used to be "You Make Me Sic". It was misused to refer to ''any'' instance of poor spelling or grammar, making it a PotholeMagnet for meta examples.

* FromBadToWorse used to be "It Got Worse". The old name was a whole sentence in itself. As such, it became a prolific PotholeMagnet and attracted a ton of misuse, especially given that it didn't specify that it had to refer to things that weren't very good to begin with.

* HumanizingTears used to be "Cry Cute". It was renamed due to rampant misuse because people were using the trope for any cute character who cries even though the trope was supposed to be for harsh characters who finally displays their vulnerability by breaking down into tears. The old name is now a disambiguation.

* FandomEnragingMisconception used to be "Fandom Berserk Button". It didn't give any indication that said BerserkButton was for ''common'' misconceptions, inviting examples that amounted to ComplainingAboutPeopleNotLikingTheShow. Before then, it was "Gannon-Banned", an obscure reference to ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'', whose BigBad is named Ganon (note the spelling); it didn't make any sense if you didn't get the reference. It had also absorbed the trope "Nerd Rage", which needed a rename but was so ambiguous that nobody could really define it.

* ImprobablyFemaleCast used to be "Pink Bishōjo Ghetto". First, the title required familiarity with the word "[[{{Bishoujo}} bishōjo]]"; while it ''is'' a trope, the term shouldn't be used in too many snowclones. Second, the term implied that it's a {{Japanese Media Trope|s}}, when it isn't necessarily. And third, it's a reference to the relatively obscure term "[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Ghetto pink ghetto]]", which is actually the ''opposite'' of the trope -- it refers to relatively low-paying jobs being dominated by women, while the higher-paying jobs are dominated by men, whereas this trope is about the ''entire'' cast being dominated by women.

* FetishizedAbuser was created by merging "Bastard Boyfriend", "Bastard Girlfriend", and "Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend", which went through renames of their own. Bastard Girlfriend used to be "Abusively Sexy Woman", and before that "Abusively Sexy Bitch". The first rename was to make the trope less negative. The second came as part of a general cleanup of SexualHarassmentAndRapeTropes following Administrivia/TheSecondGoogleIncident.\\
Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend used to be "Spectacled Sadist"; it was renamed because of confusion with FourEyesZeroSoul. Before that, it was the "KichikuMegane", which was horribly obtuse to anyone who didn't know the Japanese names of anime tropes, and also shared a name with a yaoi eroge VisualNovel, though the term was brought back as an UsefulNotes/AnimeFanspeak page along with {{Kichiku}}, the latter of which redirected to Bastard Boyfriend prior to the main tropes being merged and the FanSpeak terms being spun off.

* FakeUltimateMook used to be "Level 5 Onix", a reference to ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}''. It suffered from FanMyopia; if you didn't know the work, the name made no sense.

* HesitantSacrifice used to be "I Don't Want to Die". It was renamed because it sounded like a like of dialogue and was misused as such. It also wasn't clear that it was about ''sacrifices'', as opposed to just any near-death experience.

* GenuineHumanHide used to be "Cruelty Rich Leather", an obtuse {{pun}} on the "rich Corinthian leather" {{meme|ticMutation}}. It was renamed for clarity; it didn't specify that it had to come from ''humans''.

* HairDecorations was originally "Every Girl Is Cuter with Hair Decs". Renamed because it sounded too similar to the discredited "Everything's Better With X" snowclone family, then turned into a disambiguation of other tropes related to hair decorations.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold used to be "Hair of Gold", which tropers kept misusing for "every character with blond hair, ever."
* HairTriggerTemper was once "The Pesci" after the actor Creator/JoePesci who famously played characters with {{Hair Trigger Temper}}s in ''Film/{{Goodfellas}}'' and ''Film/{{Casino}}''. In both cases, there were maiming and death that isn't essential to the trope. Those who didn't get the reference or got the wrong reference from one of his other roles weren't informed as to the nature of the trope.
* HalfwayPlotSwitch used to be called "From Dusk Til Dawn" [sic] after [[Film/FromDuskTillDawn the film of the same name]]. It was changed to reclaim the title for the actual film.
* HammerspaceHair used to be "Hairy Hammerspace". Renamed after "Hyperspace Hair" became CompressedHair.
* HandCannon was changed from "Really Big Gun" to point out that it is by definition a one-handed weapon, even if it's as powerful as a {{BFG}}.
* HandGagging was renamed from "Putting a Hand Over His Mouth" due to the latter being a mouthful.
* HandshakeRefusal was renamed from "Hand Off" for being confusing.
* HappyEndingOverride was previously named "What Were We Fighting For?", but was renamed for being non-indicative and leading to misuse about people with unclear goals. What Were We Fighting For? is now a redirect to WasItReallyWorthIt.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl was known as "Bottle Fairy" but was changed due to the name being unclear and could be easily confused for a literal bottled fairy or the anime, ''Manga/BottleFairy'' (to the point that, for a while, the anime's page was actually titled "Bottle Fairies" so as not to conflict with the trope!). The trope was also getting misuse for any girl (and even a few ''guys'') that drank or partied regardless rather it actually fit the trope's description.
* HardTruthAesop was previously named "Family-Unfriendly Aesop" which was previously renamed from "Warped Aesop". Its scope narrowed considerably from the original "Aesop that's bad/wrong" meaning after the first rename; the original name lives on in DarthWiki/WarpThatAesop. It was renamed again since the "Family-Unfriendly Aesop" name was still attracting "Aesop that's bad/wrong" misuse.
* HatesTheJobLovesTheLimelight was once called "The Krusty" after the character from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''.
* {{Headdesk}} was "Wall Bang"; renamed for {{Headdesk}} being the more common term for the concept.
* HeadInTheSandManagement was "The Chamberlain", and was renamed both because it was vague enough that it could refer to more than one person besides UsefulNotes/NevilleChamberlain, and because it was highly contentious whether the British Prime Minister Chamberlain was even an example.
* [[Headscratchers/HomePage Headscratchers]] was once known as "It Just Bugs Me". Renamed to make it clear that it's about "About what happens there" instead of "I can't believe X is that stupid".
* HeadTurningBeauty was once "Hello, Nurse!". Renamed due to confusion with HospitalHottie.
* HeartbrokenBadass and "Badass Angster" coexisted for a long time; they were merged due to the two neither complementing nor contrasting with each other.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments was once "Crowning Moment of Heartwarming". Renamed due to definition drift.
* HeavenVersusHell was once "Heaven and Hell". Misuse in which it was interpreted as simply the two existing instead of a conflict between the two prompted the rename.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing was once "Heel Face Mind Screw", but changed because "Heel Face Mind Screw"... is not a MindScrew.
* HeroicPetStory was "Heroic Pet", generating misuse as a character type rather than the genre.
* HeroismAddict was renamed from "Hero Syndrome" because the latter was misused for EngineeredHeroics.
* HeroOfAnotherStory was originally "Colonel Makepeace", after the ''Series/StargateSG1'' character. It was renamed because the name was confusing to anyone who hadn't seen the show and many people who had.
* HeroicSecondWind used to be "MyNameIsInigoMontoya", but now they're separate tropes.
* HeroismIncentive was formerly "Would You Do It for a Scooby Snack?", but was renamed for being non-indicative and creating misuse of the trope for ComicallySmallBribe.
* HerosFirstRescue was renamed from "Burning Building Rescue" because it's not about burning buildings.
* HesitantSacrifice was renamed from "I Don't Want To Die" to get rid of the line of dialogue.
* HesJustHiding used to be known as [[spoiler:"Dumbledore Lives"]]. Both are ''Literature/HarryPotter'' references, but the latter one is a considerably more blatant spoiler.
* HideYourOtherness was renamed from "Masquerade Maintenance" because it's not about TheMasquerade.
* HighDiveEscape was renamed from "Prisoner of Zenda Exit", referencing ''Literature/ThePrisonerOfZenda''.
* HighSchoolHustler was once "Parker Lewis Ferris Bueller". It was renamed since the old title was too long, depended on people getting the references, didn't have as much immediate meaning, and didn't work as well in a sentence. In part, it replaces potholes redirecting "high school hustler" to the old title.
* HilariousInHindsight used to be "Reverse Funny Aneurysm" (derivative of another ''Buffy'' reference, "Funny Aneurysm" Moment, which was separate from HarsherInHindsight before HarsherInHindsight's definition was expanded).
** As was HarsherInHindsight, which used to be "Unfunny Aneurysm Moment". (Both had been changed to avoid confusion between the types.)
* HolidayMode used to be "Christmas Mode", but was being mistaken for a Christmas-specific feature, and was underused.
* HoldTheUnsolicitedIngredient was renamed from LeastCommonPizzaTopping due to confusion and misuse about the nature of the trope and its relationship to anchovies and a resulting redefinition/reclarification.
* HollerButton was "Press X to Jason", a meme from ''VideoGame/HeavyRain''. Changed [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=dee3rk0jihjuc4wzfavw0800&page=1 by consensus]] for being obtuse and not well defined.
* HollywoodMedievalJapan was renamed from "Medieval Japan" because the trope is about the HollywoodHistory portrayal of Medieval Japan.
* HollywoodNewEngland used to be "Hahvahd Yahd in My Cah", corruption of a standard "spot a New England accent" phrase. Changed because it was possibly too difficult to spell or remember.
* HollywoodTourettes was once called "Tourettes Shit Cock Syndrome", which itself was renamed from "Tourettes Fucking Cunt Syndrome". The reasoning behind both renames should be obvious, as it trivializes the condition just as the page was accusing shows of doing so.
* HolyBurnsEvil was named "It Burns", leading to a lot of misuse as a StockPhrase or confusion with WeakenedByTheLight. It was also named by ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDIGames'', so getting the reference was dependent on either playing the games or watching WebAnimation/{{YouTube Poop}}s.

* HonestJohnsDealership was formerly a subtrope of "CMOT Dibbler" (named for a character from ''Literature/{{Discworld}}''). Dibbler was put up for rename because it's unintuitive for anyone who hasn't read ''Discworld''. The rename discussion led to both tropes being merged under the Honest John name.
* HonestyIsTheBestPolicy was once "Washington Gambit" after the story of UsefulNotes/GeorgeWashington and the cherry tree. Washington was known for many things, honesty being only one: This gambit could have been a wartime strategy. Others thought it referred to federal politics, and honesty isn't the first association.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold used to be known as "Pretty Woman", after [[Film/PrettyWoman the film of the same name]]. Changed for being a work title, and for being non-indicative if the right connection wasn't made.
* HopelessSuitor used to be called "The Daisuke". It was renamed because: [[Anime/GhostInTheShell There's more]] [[Manga/DNAngel than]] [[Anime/HeatGuyJ one]] [[Franchise/LupinIII Daisuke]] [[Manga/{{X1999}} in anime]], it was a "The X" title, [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 The Daisuke in question]] was named Davis in the English dub, and him being a HopelessSuitor was hardly his defining character trait.
* HotbloodedSideburns was "Go Nagai Sideburns". It was renamed, because not everybody knows what a Creator/GoNagai is (the creator who popularized this trope).
* HotPaintJob used to be "Everything's Hotter with Flames". Renamed since the previous title wasn't specific enough, plus it was named according to the discredited and unrelated "Everything's Better With X" snowclone family.
* HubCity was "Capital City" but was renamed for having nothing to do with capitals. Which in turn was originally named "Shattrath City", after an Outlands city in ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft''.
* HubLevel was previously "The Hub", but was renamed in order to not conflict with Hasbro's Creator/TheHub, a TV network.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters was "Humans Are Bastards" but was renamed due to continual misuse. The name was reused for [[HumansAreBastards another trope]].
* HumansAreWhite used to be "Least Common Skin Tone", but was renamed because the original title was a snowclone that was unclear and led to misuse of the trope outside of its specific definition of people who are white being dominant for no real reason in futuristic, fantasy, and alternate universe settings.
* HunterOfMonsters used to be "The Hunter". Renamed to clarify that it's about someone who hunts supernatural creatures specifically.
* HuntingTheMostDangerousGame was "The Most Dangerous Game". ''Literature/TheMostDangerousGame'' now applies to the work.
* HypercompetentSidekick was formerly "The Radar". It was renamed not only because it was an obtuse reference to ''Series/{{MASH}}'', but also because it was rather misleading, as "radar" is a rather generic noun.
* HypnoticCreature was previously called "The Hypnotoad" and was renamed due to Administrivia/TropeNamerSyndrome.
* HypnotizeTheCaptive was previously called "Hypnotize the Princess" and was renamed because the part about the hypnotized/brainwashed character being a DamselInDistress or DistressedDude was often missed, and the name also misled people into thinking the trope was specific to royalty.

* IconicCharacterForgottenTitle was renamed from "Reverse Shazam" in order to clarify the trope's meaning.
* IconicOutfit was once "Memetic Outfit", which led to a collision with MemeticMutation, which is subjective.
* IdealizedSex was renamed from "Hollywood Sex" for being a misleading snowclone.
* IdentityAmnesia was formerly named "The Chazz" after an incident on ''Series/CharlesInCharge''. Besides just being really opaque and obscure, it was also misspelled.
* TheIdiotFromOsaka was formerly named "The Baka From Osaka", for the SublimeRhyme and being largely a Japanese media trope in the first place, but it was decided that clarity was better.
* IDoNotLikeGreenEggsAndHam was expanded from just "Green Eggs and Ham" to avoid confusion with the work.
* IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance was previously "King of Pointland", named after the work ''Literature/{{Flatland}}''.
* IgnoredAesop was formerly "Aesop Ju Jitsu". Renamed for being opaque.
* IgnoredExpert was renamed from "The Jor-El" to clarify the trope and because the former name was a work-specific and character-named trope title.
* IgnoreTheDisability was "Sammy's Glass Eye", after a scene in ''Series/AllInTheFamily''. Sammy, for Sammy Davis, Jr. has no relevance, it's all in the glass eye. But that still didn't convey the idea that it is trying to leave someone's disability[[note]]or a similarly taboo topic related to a personal attribute, such as a very large nose[[/note]] out of a conversation (then making an embarrassing slip.)
* IKnowYouKnowIKnow was originally "Wine in Front of Me", after a scene in ''Film/ThePrincessBride''. Changed due to the original name [[ItMakesSenseInContext not making any sense out of context]], and even with the proper context, the name could also apply to PoisonedChaliceSwitcheroo.
* ILetGwenStacyDie once simply was "The Gwen Stacy". Changed because a) it's a character name and b) the trope, as the current name says, is about letting her die, not about the living Gwen Stacy.
* ImAHumanitarian used to be "Soylent Green Is People". This may confuse people who don't get the former joke.
* ImMelting used to be "What a World, What a World!"; it was changed because the original name [[ItMakesSenseInContext needed context in order to make sense]]. The new name comes from the same quote; specifically, the part with the context.
* ImminentDangerClue was originally named The Telltale Drapes, and then renamed, cut, and then sent back to YKTTW ''twice'' before being launched under a much clearer name.
* ImmortalitySeeker was renamed from "So You Want to Live Forever" in order to make it clear that the trope was about a character archetype rather than a [[SoYouWantTo/SeeTheIndex So You Want To]] page.
* ImpactSilhouette used to be "Efficient Displacement". Renamed because the old name was quite unintuitive and seemed to be underused.
* ImpersonatingTheEvilTwin was once "I Am He As You Are He", but not only was it dialogue-based, it was a reference to a song by Music/TheBeatles that has deliberately nonsensical lyrics and had nothing to do with the trope.
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure was originally "Hourglass Hottie". Renamed because the old name led to misuse for any woman with an hourglass figure.
* ImposterForgotOneDetail was renamed from "Imposter Jamie Has No Accent" to avoid using a name that was work-specific and to help encourage uses of the trope that feature more than just accents. And the idea of a person with ''no'' accent is fairly ridiculous.
* ImprobableAccessoryEffect was originally called "Horse Wiener" after an equipable accessory in ''VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness''. Besides the fact the name gave the wrong impression about the trope, worries about [[Administrivia/TheGoogleIncident further Google Incidents]] resulted in it getting renamed pretty quickly.
* ImprobableAntidote was briefly "Baigar Is the Antidote".
* ImprobableInfantSurvival was renamed from "Infant Immortality", which made it seem like an absolute rule that made people mostly list aversions instead, when in fact such examples are common enough to be [[DeathOfAChild a trope in and of themselves]].
* ImprobablyFemaleCast was "Pink Bishōjo Ghetto" for a very long time. Anyone who didn't know what the word "[[{{Bishoujo}} bishōjo]]" meant wouldn't understand the title. On top of that, it was a poor snowclone of the term "[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Ghetto pink ghetto]]", which aside from being a fairly obscure term to begin with, the actual definition of "pink ghetto" is more or less the ''opposite'' of what the trope is about.[[note]]The term refers to (generally low-paying) job fields that are dominated by women, while the trope refers to women dominating a work's entire cast.[[/note]]
* ImproperlyPlacedFirearms was renamed from "I Know That Gun" in order to clarify the trope's meaning and decrease misuse for trivia and examples of prop guns being based on real guns.
* InactionSequence was formerly known as "Not So Fast", but it was easy to confuse with the mostly unrelated "Not So Fast Bucko" (which has itself since been merged with YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle). Spent some time as Midstrike Monologue in between.
* InadvertentEntranceCue was "Something Wicked This Way Comes" but it was being confused with the novel.
* IncestSubtext used to be "Incest Yay". Renamed due to [[ThatCameOutWrong sounding just plain wrong]] if you didn't recognize it as a bad snowclone of HoYay.
* IncoherenceIndex used to be called "Word Salad Index". It was changed because the index covered tropes that weren’t necessarily tied to "word salads".
* INeedToGoIronMyDog used to be "Helicopter Sounds" after a ''Series/{{Friends}}'' scene. It was changed because the trope has nothing to do with helicopters nor sounds and the ''Friends'' reference itself didn't quite fit, being more an example of PrivacyByDistraction.
* IneptTalentShowContestant started as "Pif Paf Pof", but the title was an obscure reference with little relation to the trope and the page wasn't thriving.
* InformingTheFourthWall used to be "I Can't Use These Things Together", but was renamed to combat misuse and ambiguity.
* {{Intangibility}} used to be "Intangible Man".
* InexplicablyAwesome was "The Frizzle" after Ms. Frizzle from ''Literature/TheMagicSchoolBus''. It was renamed due to being a character-named trope whose name was causing a great deal of confusion over what it actually meant.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals was originally "Nurse Jenny". Renamed due to its obscurity to anyone outside of the fandom (especially since it was actually a portmanteau of two ''different'' characters) and the misleading link to the various Nurse tropes.
* InfiniteOneUps was "One Up Sampo". Without happening to know ''Literature/TheKalevala'' (or being a fan of ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000'', which covered [[Film/TheDayTheEarthFroze an adaptation of it]]), there was slim to zero chance the reader would know that one of the many, many meanings of the word "sampo" in ancient Finnish mythology is "mill".
* InformedEquipment used to be "Fight In The Nude", which could be confused with FullFrontalAssault.
* InformedObscenity was formerly "Snugglebunnies", after a gag in ''ComicStrip/BloomCounty'', which was too obscure.
* InnocentProdigy was renamed from "The Linus" since there are a number of possible character traits associated with [[ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}} Linus]] that are outside the specific definition of that trope.
* InnocuouslyImportantEpisode was "Midnight on the Firing Line" after the name of an episode in ''Series/BabylonFive'' which was an example. Outside that audience the phrase was opaque.
* TheInsomniac was originally "No Rest for the Wicked" -- a phrase that usually refers to people with a guilty conscience. The new name indicates it is all insomniacs, not just wicked ones.
* InspectorLestrade is a clarifying expansion of the original title, "Lestrade".
* InstantBirthJustAddLabor was once "Instant Birth, Just Add Water!", but after the definition was broadened to factor in labor in general, a rename was in order.
* InstantChucks was once "Sword Chucks", from ''Webcomic/EightBitTheater''. Sword Chucks was MixAndMatchWeapon [[Administrivia/TheSameButMoreSpecific but with only two weapons]], but since ninety percents of examples were about ridiculous things made into nunchucks just by sticking a chain inbetween, it became specifically about that, with the title change to boot.
* InstantWinCondition used to be "The Enemy Gate Is Down", after the quote from ''Literature/EndersGame''. Renamed because it doesn't necessarily relate to enemies, gates, or gates being down. Also, "down" referred to the direction, not "[[ItsGoingDown going down]]".
* IntellectuallySupportedTyranny was previously "Trahison des Clercs", but was renamed to clarify the meaning of the trope using an English term.
* IntentionalEngrishForFunny was formerly "Zero Wingrish", but the TropeNamer was actually an ''unintentional'' bad translation.
* IntendedAudienceReaction was originally "They Plotted a Perfectly Good Waste", an awkward snowclone of TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot, to which it had no relation.
* InterruptedCooldownHug was renamed from "Hulk's Cooldown Hug Corollary" in order to clarify the trope's meaning and to rid it of a unnecessary character-named title.
* IntoxicationEnsues was formerly named "Lemon Wacky Hello". after an opiate-laced candy from ''Series/JustShootMe'' Changed because it was non-indicative, an obscure WordSaladTitle, and could be confused with tropes about greetings.
* InUniverseCamera was once "First Person Camera"; this changed because FirstPersonCamera better describes POVCam (and, indeed, now redirects there).
* InUniverseGameClock used to go by "Time Keeps On Slipping", a [[Music/SteveMillerBand musical reference]] that had little to do with the trope.
* InventedIndividual was "The Ernest". It was supposed to refer to a character from ''Theatre/TheImportanceOfBeingEarnest'', but it was myopic and unclear, and the trope was suffering for it.
* InvincibilityPowerUp used to be "Super Star", but it was renamed due to the word superstar having a different meaning, a successful performer or athlete.
* InvincibleHero was once named "Boring Invincible Hero". Renamed to sound more neutral.
* InvincibleVillain used to be called "Boring Invincible Villain". Same deal.
* InVinoVeritas was formerly "Doctor Jekyll and Mister Jack Daniels". Renamed for being a little too complex, especially with a handy widely-known ancient phrase available.
* InvoluntaryCharityDonation was once "Thank You Mister Evil". Renamed from StockPhrase.
* InvoluntaryGroupSplit was renamed from "Rocks Fall Party Splits" in order to clarify that it's about all sorts of obstacles, not just rocks.
* InvoluntaryShapeshifter used to be called "Involuntary Shapeshifting", but the term was frequently misused for any arbitrary transformation (e.g: BalefulPolymorph) instead of a {{Shapeshifter}} who has no control over their own transformations.
* UsefulNotes/IQTesting was once "You Fail the IQ Test". The actual trope has since been split into ImprobablyHighIQ and ImprobablyLowIQ.
* IReadItForTheArticles used to be known as "I Watch It for the Economics", at least partly based off a [[MemeticMutation online meme]] that arose from the anime ''LightNovel/SpiceAndWolf''. The original name was not general enough to describe the trope, though, hence the change. It helps that the current name is also a meme, but one much older and more widespread.
* ItMayHelpYouOnYourQuest used to be "Take This". Was renamed due to "take this" being a StockPhrase.
* ItsBeenDone used to be known as "The Simpsons Did It", named after an episode of ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' which deals with this trope. It was renamed because it only got widely used as "things ''The Simpsons'' did" -- we already had a page for that, it's called ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''.

* JackOfAllStats was "The Mario", after [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]]'s tendency to have balanced stats in his spinoff games. It was renamed because this is not a trait Mario is particularly well-known for, it didn't catch on outside Wiki/TVTropes as much as other CompetitiveBalance tropes and people were mistaking it for a generic "Jack of All Trades" trope without CompetitiveBalance context.
* JadedWashout was "Al Bundy", but it was renamed because [[Series/MarriedWithChildren Al Bundy]] is known for more than just what the trope is about and how Al Bundy may be unfamiliar to many people.

In addition, several tropes under GambitIndex used to have Xanatos in their names as well, and tropers are concerned that an excessive number of Xanatos-named tropes can lead to the TropeDecay of XanatosGambit by overuse of the Xanatos meme causing it to become a byword for EvilPlan or a generic ThePlan rather than a distinct trope of its own.
** GambitPileup was originally "Thirty Xanatos Pileup". That was renamed because Gambit Pileup doesn't have to include gambits of which lead to success no matter what the other person tries.
** GambitRoulette was "Xanatos Roulette", and before that it was "Yagami Gambit".
** SpannerInTheWorks was formerly "Xanatos Gilligan", changed for being rather impenetrable without considerable prior knowledge of the site and being vague with it.

* {{Gamebooks}} were originally called "Choose Your Own Adventure"; although the genre is known by that name in some parts of the English world (not all, though), there was too much confusion with the actual ''Literature/ChooseYourOwnAdventure'' series, including some subpages colliding. Not to mention it was often confused with the StoryBranching trope on video-game pages.
* GameFavoredGender was originally called "Minus Four Strength" after a particularly non-intuitive ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' meme.
