Eretria has been living with a group of scavengers led by a mysterious man from her past named Cogline, but a vision of Amberle prompts her to abandon them and head for Arborlon. Wil is studying to be a healer in Storlock, though memories of Amberle still haunt him. A strange Half-Elven woman named Mareth rescues him from bounty hunters sent by the Crimson, an AntimagicalFaction that has arisen among the Elves since the war, and wants his help to find Allanon, who she claims is her father. Allanon, meanwhile, has tracked Bandon to a temple where he has turned a number of people into demonic servants called Mord Wraiths.

* NeverMyFault: Bandon accuse Allanon of a number of things, many of which are true. However, he also claims Allanon turned Catania against him, ignoring the fact that that might have something more to do with him becoming a murderous psychopath. Oh, and that time he tried to rip her throat out in bed probably didn't help, either.

* TimeSkip: The episode starts exactly where last season left off, with Eretria apparently captive by the Trolls. However, it quickly jumps a full year ahead.
* WhatTheHellHero: Bandon bombards Allanon with them, recalling all the morally questionable things Allanon did last season. Allanon doesn't deny them, but shoots back by berating Bandon for falling victim to the Dagda Mor's influence.
* WonTheWarLostThePeace: Despite the demons being back in the Forbidding, the Elven kingdom isn't doing so well - many of its people are still homeless after the demons drove them out of their villages, and the crown lacks the funds to pay for the reconstruction efforts. To make it even worse, rebellion is brewing in the form of [[AntimagicalFaction the Crimson.]]

* AnimalEyes: One of Bandon's acolytes' eyes turn yellow with slitted pupils when Bandon chooses him to be the leader of the new Mord Wraiths.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Elves apparently have different internal organs than other races, which must be taken into account by healers trying to treat them. [[DeadlyDoctor Or if you want to know the exact right place to stab one.]]
* CallBack: Wil tells Mareth that she's not the first woman who's tried to take advantage of him. He apparently hasn't forgotten Eretria playing him like a fiddle several times last season.
* DressingAsTheEnemy: Cogline and his people turn out to have made use of the Trolls' GasMaskMooks look to pass unnoticed through their territory in search of Eretria.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Mareth has apparently heard of Wil, but she's less than impressed with him in person.
-->'''Mareth:''' How did this guy ever save the world?
* ImportantHaircut: Wil has cut his hair short since last season, giving him a harsher, leaner look to go with his angrier and more cynical mindset.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: Mareth claims to be Allanon's previously unknown daughter.
* MasterOfIllusion: Mareth makes her hand seem wounded as an excuse to see Wil, and later creates a replica of him to draw a Mord Wraith away.
* NearDeathClairvoyance: While drowning after falling off a bridge, Eretria sees a vision of Amberle telling her to find Wil.

Oh, and that time he tried to rip her throat out in bed probably didn't help, either.
* SelfDestructiveCharge: The last Troll after Eretria charges into her and knocks them both off the bridge. [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes He apparently didn't like her killing his friends.]]
