!Hibbing 911

Written by Jenny Klein.

Story by Jenny Klein and Phil Sgriccia

Directed by Tim Andrew.

Air Date: December 2, 2014.

Sheriff Jody Mills attends a sheriff's retreat in Hibbing, Minnesota. There she finds an unwanted companion in the perky Sheriff Donna Hanscum. She also finds a string of slayings in which the victims' flesh is removed, along with items like belts and wallets. The Winchesters - especially Dean, frustrated at not finding any information on the Mark - eagerly make a trip north to help investigate.

!Tropes
* BrokenMasquerade: This is the first time Sheriff Hanscum learns about monsters, including the pishtago she actually met in "The Purge".
* DefrostingIceQueen: Jody towards Donna.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Sheriff Cuse tries to be one. His past catches up with him, though.
* Irony: Jody gives street kid Starr lunch money because she reminds her of her own stepdaughter Alex. Turns out Starr is pretty much what Alex would have been had Jody not rescued her from the nest.
* RedHerring: When Jody first consults with the Winchesters about the slayings, they all agree that it can't be vampires. It turns out that's exactly what it is, only their "waste not, want not" ethic results in the bodies being picked clean.
* ShoutOut
** The city of Hibbing was chosen as a setting because it's the hometown of Music/BobDylan.
** The episode contains references to Music/TheBand, including a snippet of their song "The Weight". The Band both toured and recorded with Dylan.
** Dean calls Starr "Mufasa" after her "circle of life" speech.
