* DeliberateValuesDissonance: One of Helaena's servant girls was raped by Prince Aegon. While rape is illegal on paper (we see Daemon have a man gelded for the crime in the first episode), in their world there isn't any precedent for powerful men being brought to task for their sexual misconduct against commoners. While Alicent is sympathetic to the girl's plight, and clearly furious with Aegon, her primary priority is to ensure it gets covered up (by [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything paying her off]] and giving her moon tea) to protect her son's reputation. Being a prince, Aegon's sole punishment is being reprimanded by his mother.

Removed as it's a fan theory based on incorrect facts. The time between the nod and Vaemond's beheading is over 10min. Viserys had not even arrived yet. When Rhaenyra nods, you can see Daemon's fingers twitch at the same time while she's rubbing her rings. This is a mirror to an earlier scene where we see that Rhaenyra rubs her rings when anxious, and Daemon raised his hand to stop her and hold her hand to comfort her. The nod from Rhaenyra was in response to Daemon looking at her in concern, and he twitches back his reflex because he cannot hold her hand in that setting. This behavior is repeated later, during the dinner scene where tho they're not in focus, their hands are on-top each other on the table and they're stroking each other's fingers.

** During the Velaryon inheritance hearing, there's a moment--subtle enough to miss the first time but clear upon {{Rewatch|Bonus}}--where Rhaenyra and Daemon lock eyes and then Rhaenyra gives a tiny little nod, signing off on Daemon's killing Vaemond before he does it. The dialogue: "Murder?" "Murder."

* AdaptationalHeroism: In the book there's a scuffle between Alicent and Rhaenyra regarding maesters and Viserys's treatment. Here Rhaenyra initially accuses Alicent of mismanaging Viserys's treatment but then walks that accusation back, even thanking Alicent for her care after realizing that Viserys's health really is that bad and Alicent is handling it as best she can.

* PuppetKing: With Viserys incapacitated, Alicent and Otto have been effectively ruling the kingdom in his place. Daemon and Rhaenyra initially think this is an InvokedTrope, but after spending more time with Viserys and getting a clearer picture of his condition, Rhaenyra realizes it's at most an ExploitedTrope -- Viserys's condition really is ''that bad'' and this is actually a fairly appropriate course of treatment.

* MundaneMadeAwesome: A crippled old man enters a room in the middle of a debate and limps his way to the iron chair. Doesn't exactly sound like Homerian epic. But the moment becomes an incredibly powerful scene as the king makes a last political statment just by walking, gathering his remaining forces to reach the throne and command his power one last time, refusing the help of his guards but accepting his brother support, in a touching moment of love, respect and unity. It's jaw-dropping for courtiers and viewers alike.

Sucession between younger brothers and daughters is muddier then just "daughter before brother" (IE: Jonnel Stark inheriting from his brother even though Rickon had two daughters)

* {{Hypocrite}}: Vaemond Velaryon says that King Viserys cannot dictate how succession will go on within House Velaryon, all while he himself is ignoring the wishes of the head of House Velaryon, his brother Corlys, by proclaiming himself heir to Driftmark over Luke. He also says that proclaiming Luke heir will end the Velaryon line even after Rhaenys's announcement that Luke will marry his great-niece Rhaena, who is unquestionably Corlys's trueborn granddaughter and thus part of the line of House Velaryon's firstborn son, while he is a secondborn son who would be usurping his older brother's descendants. Even in the Seven Kingdoms, by default a lord's daughter or his daughter's child would come before his younger brother in the absence of sons.
