In Machu Picchu, Peru, Chief Ripley sends Jack and the player in disguise to intercept Zoila Huanca, a SOMBRA agent that was supposed to meet up with President Adolfo Herrera during an eclipse, in hopes of obtaining information regarding the organization's goals. However, Jack and the player barely manage to speak with Zoila before a tumi is thrown at her chest, killing her instantly right in front of them.

!!Tropes:
*{{Ahem}}: The victim does this when Jack fails to guess the password during their meeting.
*ArmorPiercingSlap: Asal slaps Jack when he forcefully kisses her, leaving him pretty distraught.
*AttackOnTheHeart: The victim was killed by having a traditional knife thrown at her heart.
*AxCrazy: During his arrest, Claudio Aguirre makes clear that he's ''absolutely'' out of his mind, having delusions of being an ultimate conquistador who had to force the "Wrath of God" onto Zoila and SOMBRA all for the sake of accomplishing his goal and taking over the world.
-->'''Claudio:''' My will makes the earth tremble! My thoughts make birds fall from the sky! I alone will remove man's order and replace it with my own laws!
-->'''Jack:''' I've heard enough of your nonsense!
*BattleInterruptingShout: Jack interrupts Lars and Asal's GunpointBanter with a shout before things can escalate further, not wanting to see his best friend hurt.
*BlazingInfernoHellfireSauce: One of the killer's traits is that they eat [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsicum_pubescens rocoto chili]], which range ''very'' high on the Scoville scale
*BigFancyHouse: One of the crime scenes is a hacienda that used to belong to El Rey before he moved out of it, which got turned into a fancy bed and breakfast.
*TheBusCameBack: Asal makes yet another return after being absent since [[Recap/CriminalCaseWorldEditionCase36OutOfTheBlue Case 36]], since the Mossad had ordered her to follow Zoila around.
*ContinuityNod: Asal kill / yaks in mongolia
**Jack remarks how this wouldn't be the first time [[Recap/CriminalCaseWorldEditionCase15ODeadlyNight Asal killed a SOMBRA agent on her own.]]
**You find a necklace belonging to Asal that, according to Jack, was a gift from him to her [[Recap/CriminalCaseWorldEditionCase17HorsebackMountain in Mongolia.]]
*CreepyDoll: Amaru Condor, a local tradesman, made a creepy burial doll modeled after the victim, though he claims it was just a coincidence that she winded up dead soon thereafter.
*CrystalSkull: One made by the [[NewAgeRetroHippie Solstice Spirit]] was left where Zoila was killed to supposedly help her complete her journey to the afterlife.
*DeclarationOfProtection: After Jack manages to calm the confrontation between Asal and Lars, he tells Jack he was just trying to protect him, and that he won't let Asal hurt him anymore.
*DressingAsTheEnemy: Jack dresses as the late President Herrera to speak with Zoila during their SOMBRA meeting, and although he manages to fool her regarding appearances, his cover gets blown pretty quick when he fails the TrustPassword.
*ForcefulKiss: Jack forcefully kisses Asal during your second interrogation with her, though he was just doing it to implant the TrackingChip Elliot asked you to.
*FromNobodyToNightmare: This case reveals that, back in the 1950s, SOMBRA used to be a powerless philosophical club that was more about ideas about changing the world than actions, but an still unknown event somehow made them the global threat they're still on this day.
*AGodAmI: [[AxCrazy Claudio]] declares himself the Wrath of God during his arrest.
*GoodIsNotNice: Due to already being over Asal, Jack has started to see her as this, seeing her an enemy despite being part of the good guys as a Mossad agent.
-->'''Jack:''' You're so sneaky! I can't stand it! Lars was right about you! You may not be with SOMBRA, but you definitely cannot be trusted!
*GunpointBanter: Lars and Asal engage in one at the start of Chapter 3, due to him not trusting her entirely and believing she's in Peru to hurt Jack again. It takes you rushing to the scene and Jack's BattleInterruptingShout to stop them from escalating the situation.
*HollywoodHacking: Somehow, Asal manages to hack into Jack's phone and learn about El Rey with no explanation as to how she accomplished it, only claiming that "even a llama" could hack into it.
*ImprobableAimingSkills: The killer managed to throw a knife at the victim's heart from a distance long enough for Jack and the player to not feel their presence, all in the middle of a solar eclipse that covered everything in darkness.
*KickTheDog: During her confrontation with Lars, Asal rubs in his face the fact that his wife was unmasked as a SOMBRA agent, then later taunts Jack and the player for this exact same reason.
*KilledMidSentence: The victim gets killed just when she was about to confront Jack and the player about being impostors.
-->'''Zoila:''' What?! Wait a minute! You're not El Presidente! Who are-
*MeaningfulName: Jack and Dupont deduce that SOMBRA was named after their ideals and philosophy regarding how they should take the world out of the "shadow", whose Spanish translation is "sombra".
*{{Mondegreen): When Dupont tells you the scroll you found is written in Quechua, [[TheDitz Jack]] mishears "catch a what".
*TheNameIsBondJamesBond: After he's exposed as an agent of the [[UsefulNotes/SecretIntelligenceService MI6]], George presents himself as "Pryce. George Pryce."
*NationalWeapon: The victim was killed with [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tumi a tumi]], a ceremonial knife and tool used by the Inca people.
*NewAgeRetroHippie: The Solstice Spirit, an old woman who travels around the world performing purification and talking all about spiritual energy. Her suspect profile even labels her as "New Age Hippie".
*ObfuscatingStupidity: George pretends to be a local dimwitted astronomer who doesn't even know where he's standing on, but he's actually a veteran agent for the [[UsefulNotes/SecretIntelligenceService MI6]] who was sent to kidnap President Herrera.
*TheOlympics: At the end of the case, the Bureau goes to Brazil to see the Olympics after learning that Luzaguay was going to send some of its athletes to compete there.
*OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: The Solstice Spirit's real name is unknown.
*ParrotPetPosition: Claudio has a pet monkey [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_127.png that is always seen on his shoulder]], though it runs off during his arrest.
*ThePhilosopher: SOMBRA actually started as a small philosophical club with ideas aimed at the betterment of humanity, but said club somehow grew until they transformed into the international crime organization you've been chasing the entire game.
*RoadApples: Claudio sent a pan flute at Zoila as a way to confess his feelings, but didn't notice said instrument was soiled with excrement from his monkey. He believes this is actually the reason why she rejected him.
*SayingTooMuch: Asal tricks Jack into revealing what he knows about El Rey by getting him to gloat about the things the Bureau discovered and the Mossad didn't.
*ShoutOut:
**The case's title comes from [[Music/TotalEclipseOfTheHeart the song of the same name.]]
** Jack's only attempt at guessing the secret code is [[Creator/RichardHarris "Someone left the cake out in the rain."]]
** George Pryce is a parody of Creator/JonathanPryce, and he is revealed to be a [[UsefulNotes/SecretIntelligenceService MI6 agent]].
** Claudio Aguirre resembles [[Film/AguirreTheWrathOfGod Lope de Aguirre]], and is named after him as well as Creator/KlausKinski, who portrayed the character. He even calls himself "Wrath of God" during his arrest.
** In the Bus scene, there is a [[Film/IndianaJonesAndTheKingdomOfTheCrystalSkull crystal skull]], which also appears in Chapter 2's cover image and is a clue pertaining to the case. Nearby is a familiar fedora.
*SpySpeak: The victim attempted to do this with Jack to corroborate he truly was President Herrera, which of course failed due to Jack not knowing the TrustPassword.
-->'''Zoila:''' Greetings, Presidente... The condor greets the sun with a radiant heart...
-->'''Jack:''' Greetings and salutations!
-->'''Zoila:''' {{Ahem}}... I said the condor greets the sun with a radiant heart!
-->'''Jack:''' Um... Someone left the cake out in the rain?
*StalkerWithACrush: Claudio was deeply in love with Zoila, to the point his cellphone was full of stalking pictures of her. However, this ''might'' be {{Subverted}} during his arrest when he claims she was in his way of becoming the "supreme conquistador" and thus had to die, as Claudio never makes it clear whether he was truly in love with Zoila [[KillTheOnesYouLove but killed her anyway]] or [[StalkerWithoutACrush he was just lying.]]
*TheStarscream: Claudio used to be a SOMBRA agent until he decided to leave the organization and kill Zoila to become a "supreme conquistador" and take down SOMBRA by himself.
*TakeOverTheWorld: Claudio's endgame "goal" was taking down SOMBRA and conquering the world by himself with a little help of being the "Wrath of God". [[AxCrazy Yeah...]]
-->'''Claudio:''' I am the Wrath of God! I will rule the world!
*ThereAreNoCoincidences: Jack finds hard to believe Asal just happened to be passing by when a SOMBRA messenger was murdered, citing that one time [[Recap/CriminalCaseWorldEditionCase15ODeadlyNight she also dispatched a SOMBRA agent under the Mossad orders.]]
*ThisIsMyNameOnForeign: As part of his cover, George Pryce goes under the name of "Jorge Precio" (whose English translation would be the close enough George Price).
*TotalEclipseOfThePlot: {{Downplayed}}. While the eclipse is an important element at the beginning due to helping the killer go unnoticed by Jack and the player, it doesn't bear that much plot relevance after that.
*TrackingChip: Elliot gives one to Jack and the player to implant on Asal and follow her movements, which Jack accomplishes with a ForcefulKiss.
