->Parallel to ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}'' was Frank Miller's ''{{The Dark Knight Returns}}'', a comic whose fame rests largely on the fact that it has most of the [[RatedMForMoney sex and violence]] of ''Watchmen'' wedded to the moral sensibilities of Film/DirtyHarry. In fact, it basically is just a Batman comic where Batman is Dirty Harry. There are persistent rumors that there were occasional plans to adapt the comic to film with Clint Eastwood playing the role of Batman...Whether it is Dirty Harry, Rorschach, or Batman, the badass is always conservative, in the sense of conservation -- the sense of maintaining what is, and what was. ->Fascinating what success can do to a show. Mulder is no longer a geeky, awkward type stuck down in the basement of the FBI. Now he has [[ProgressivelyPrettier the look of a fashion model]] (and dresses for the part too) and can be seen packing away a vicious looking gun and shooting out the tyres of a runaway van. When the driver turns out to be his old pal Krychek, he turns into a ruthless bully, [[CowboyCop kicking the shit out of him and not giving a damn about the consequences]]. I’m not one of those people who cries because a character I like is handy with his fists, but this does seem a little like overkill. He’s gone from [[Series/TheBigBangTheory Sheldon Cooper]] to {{Franchise/Rambo}} in the space of four seasons. Given his background and career this is the sort of behaviour that you might expect Agent Doggett to revel in but he never, ever does. Which, for me, makes him the superior character because Mulder just comes across as a spoilt kid beating up the ones who wont fight back because they got one up on him in the past.

->What is most striking about "Marauders" is how eager it is to jump to a solution that involves the crew of the ''Enterprise'' shooting Klingons. After all, that is what most people remember about ''Star Trek'', right? None of that [[ARealManIsAKiller negotiation or talking stuff?]] There are points where characters in the episode suggest that defeating the Klingons may not be the solution, but that is quickly dismissed by the story.\\\
After the away team witness the Klingons bullying the miners, a young boy tells Trip, ''“You could have fought the Klingons. Beaten them.”'' When Trip concedes ''“maybe”'', the kid presses the issue. ''“Why didn’t you try?”'' Trip replies, ''“It’s not that simple.”'' [[DebateAndSwitch Except that it is.]] Archer does the same hand-wringing with T’Pol for a scene. T’Pol observes, ''“However, short of [[WhyDontYaJustShootHim killing the Klingons]] any action we take will only make the situation worse.”'' Archer reflects, ''“I just hate the idea of turning our backs.”''\\\
There is a sense of angsty insecure masculinity here, as the show’s two male leads struggle with their urge for violent retribution within the construct of a ''Star Trek'' episode. There is something just a tad reactionary about all this. There’s a sense that Archer and Trip are desperately [[WhoWouldWantToWatchUs wishing that they weren’t trapped]] by the rules associated with a ''Star Trek'' story. They both seem ready to just whip out their phaser rifles and shoot up some Klingons.
