* ''Manga/{{Life}}'' can be quite unsettling. It features graphic depictions of someone cutting themselves, but that's just the beginning. There are scenes of graphically sliced wrists that are just NauseaFuel but the warped "demonic" look of Manami's face some times.. For someone who is a normal high school girl Manami is dangerously close to being a CompleteMonster. When she bullies, she goes all out.

* ''NowAndThenHereAndThere'' was based on reports of the Rwandan genocide, and man does it show. In a subversion of a classic Ghibliesque "KidHero in a strange fantasy world scenario", our hero finds himself in an apocalyptic wasteland of chronic thirst, a literally insane warlord ruling with an iron fist, ChildSoldier-hood for the boys, and ''child rape camps'' for the girls. There are supernatural elements in this CrapsackWorld, but do you really need them when you have most of the all-too-real curses that make life hell for all too many people in the real world? And where many entries on this list finally stop, this show keeps on bludgeoning you until you're an emotionally shattered wreck sobbing in the corner.

* ''{{Robotech}}'' had dozens of {{EyeCatch}} segments for it's commercial breaks, and most of the major characters voiced over at least one eyectatch. The most creepy of them all was one by what is probably the voice of a bioroid terminator against a scene of one of Dana's nightmares (a cadaverous hand reaching out to grab her). The two parts of the voiceover were: "Robotech will return...and so will you.". When coming back from commercial, "Robotech is back...''and I'm watching you.''" Make of that what you will.

* ''ShakuganNoShana'' has a chilling part of the nature of their world. If your power of existence is devoured by a Tomogara and you get turned into a "torch" by a Flame Haze, you become just a shell, a.k.a. an Unperson and will eventually disappear, [[FateWorseThanDeath with no one remembering you existed]]. Even worse is that this may have already happened, several times in fact to people they knew.

** Darm himself looks like the monster he'd later look like in ''Origin'' and ''Ys I & II Chronicles'' (and is voiced by Creator/NorioWakamoto in Japan and Creator/KirkThornton to boot), and his plan? [[spoiler: To fill Adol full of hate and then ''[[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything merge with his body]]'' to create a world of evil]]. The worst part: ''[[spoiler: [[NearVillainVictory He almost succeeds.]]]]'' [[spoiler: [[NoYay And then he plans to do the same thing with Lilia's body]].]] [[spoiler: [[FridgeHorror And Darm is revealed in ''Ys Origin'' to be a fusion of Cain Fact (an old priest) and the Black Pearl, so...]]]]
