* MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness: Songs on Quebec: "Among His Tribe", "Hey There Fancypants", "I Don't Want It", and "Chocolate Town" are in the 1-2 range, "Zoloft" and "Tried And True" are a 3, "Transdermal Celebration" is a 5, and "It's Gonna Be A Long Night" is a 7. And then there's "Happy Colored Marbles"... which goes from a light 3 to an 8, even a 9, in an instant.

* ShoutOut: The album cover is a reference to a 3M Paper Game called "Thorns", tampered with to resemble Dean and Gene.

Quebec is the eighth album made by AlternativeRock band Ween. Released in 2003, It was their return to the independent circuit (last one was The Pod), after having their Elektra contracts expired, and after the near-death of drummer Claude Coleman Jr. in a car accident.

The album is famous for having a mixed reception when it released, because of the Prog-rock like songs and the darker tone it has, the latter of which was mainly inspired by Gene's at-the-time failing marriage that led to an apparently messy divorce. It's gained a following for the same elements that made its initial reception more mixed, to the point where it's a major fan favorite.

* OneWordTitle: "Zoloft" and "Captain"
* NewSoundAlbum: Even though you could call every single song a "New Sound", Ween basically did go to unexplored territories in this album. To Speed Metal, to Electronic, to even the ambient soundscapes like "Captain", "The Alcan Road" and "The Argus".

* EpicRiff: "It's Gonna Be A Long Night" and the third half of "Happy Colored Marbles".

to:

* DrugsAreBad / DrugsAreGood: Both are played with in "Zoloft" and "Happy Colored Marbles". Both are probably songs about anti-depressants, and since Gene was in a drug addiction at the time of recording this album it does make sense. With "Zoloft", it has the protagonist getting addicted to said drug and has a local talk with his or her psychiatrist (presented by a garbeled voice).
---> Realize that the sky's not made of gold
---> Don't disguise the nature of your soul
** With "Happy Colored Marbles" at the other hand, it has these depressed voices (represented by a melancholic first and second verse) talking about how most people are not okay, but have to do the job. And in the chorus, a sort-of upbeat melody happens and sings about the aforementioned "Happy Colored Marbles". And finally in the instrumental breakdown, it basically is the experience after the affects of said "Marbles"; a screwed up mess and probably the darkest ending for a Ween song ever.
* EpicRiff: "It's Gonna Be A Long Night" Night", "Transdermal Celebration" and the third half of "Happy Colored Marbles".

* LyricalDissonance: "Zoloft" and "Happy Colored Marbles" are songs which are about the happiness... of using anti-depressants.
** "Chocolate Town" is an upbeat country song about a guy trying to buy drugs and then getting caught by police.

* MoodWhiplash: "Happy Colored Marbles" has a slow, somber start... and then after the 2nd chorus it goes insane.
** The opener is a speedy metal song, while the next song is a slow and somber one.
* Pastiche: The opening track "It's Gonna Be A Long Night" is a song in the style of Motorhead.

batshit insane. With a doom-metal like electric guitar and one of the Ween Bros. screaming in agony.
