While seemingly wanting to avenge the death of master, [[PredecessorVillain Erwin Leszaa]], it is soon revealed that Bernhardt doesn't really care about Erwin and is tormenting Kazuma [[ForTheEvulz for his own amusement]] and plans to use Belial to destroy him, his city, and everyone he holds dear.
