Just For Pun is a disambiguation

* [[https://osu.ppy.sh/users/2644828 t[-_-t[=]=]]][[note]]The current username of an American player, the high [=BPM=] and finger control specialist Tony, who has a history of odd username changes including "legendcrazyman" and "[[JustForPun he rack]]." He made this change shortly before OWC 2019, to the chagrin of every commentator who had to explain who the man behind this FlippingTheBird username was.[[/note]]

* It's like ''osu!'' but _____[[labelnote:Explanation]]A FandomEnragingMisconception amongst fans of other rhythm games is to claim that a particular game is inspired by, or worse, a ripoff of ''osu!''. Even just saying a game looks like it tends to draw complaints from fans of those games. Some fans of those games like to ironically claim that the game in question is "like ''osu!'', but" with a {{Dissimile}} expression that makes the game not like ''osu!'' at all.[[/labelnote]]

* [[https://www.twitch.tv/videos/449563113?t=2h46m9s Aireu在Lil'Slugger戰役中得到91%]][[note]]In an accuracy-based tournament, top player Aireu (then known as lain) got 91.54% on a map known as "The Battle of Lil' Slugger", costing his team the point. His team was one point away from winning the tournament, and after this throw, they suffered a brutal reversal with their opponents being able to force the tiebreaker, but luckily managed to win. His teammates then spammed this after the tournament ended as a jab towards his performance.[[/note]]

* Combo-based scoring[[labelnote:Explanation]]A recurring complaint and meme about this game from fans of other rhythm games is that scoring is heavily based on a multiplier proportional to the player's current combo. As such, the leaderboards frequently feature players getting higher scores than players with higher accuracy, all because the higher-scoring player held onto a full combo while the lower-scoring player prioritized hitting 300s.[[/labelnote]]

** It gets even funnier when you realize that this copypasta is originally from the competitive ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Smash]]'' community, about a player whose name is ''also "Alex."''"'' In fact, it's arguably used ''more'' in the osu! community nowadays.

* Turn My Swag On[[note]]Another meme relating to [=HowlWater=]. After he set a [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/7qq0k4/howlwater_maffalda_pensamento_tipico_de_esquerda/ nearly impossible, extremely low accuracy +HD,HR,DT full combo]] on Mismagius's infamous "pensamento tipico de esquerda caviar" map, he immediately played a map of Soulja Boy's "Turn My Swag On" before logging off. The community found it humorous that he had the audacity to celebrate this way after blatantly cheating a score, and top players would soon jokingly imitate him by doing this exact same thing after setting (legitimate) groundbreaking scores of their own.[[/note]]

[[caption-width-right:350:The miss that would go down in osu! meme history forever.]]

It's no surprise that a community with osu!'s size has spawned a mountain of memes about their players and historical moments.

[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder:General memes]]
* [[https://osu.ppy.sh/s/25 Airman is undefeatable.]]
** [[https://osu.ppy.sh/s/24313 This version]] lends credence to the idea.

* Play more[[note]]osu! veterans occasionally get fed up with answering trivial questions about improvement from those who have just started the game and want to see instant results. Some take to just telling these new players to "play more," which has become a meme due to how often it has to be said.[[/note]]
* Ohio State University[[note]]When you search "osu" on Google, results for Ohio State University (or OSU) will inadvertently come up instead of the game's website. This has led many to joke that "osu!" actually stands for the university's name. Students of the university have also taken notice of this, in part due to their subreddit occasionally getting posts about the game, and some even play along with the joke.[[/note]]
* [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/6663hf/imperial_dead_bicycle_lol/ imperial dead bicycle lol]][[note]]References Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, a Japanese metal group that is popular on osu!, and pokes fun at their overly long band name.[[/note]]
* X is ''osu!'' original song[[labelnote:Explanation]]Due to a lot of songs being [[SongAssociation associated with]] ''osu!'' even if they originated in other rhythm games, a lot of critics of the game and its community like to sarcastically remark that so-and-so song is an "osu original song", with [[VideoGame/SoundVoltex "Brain Power"]] being one of the most common candidates, especially once it got removed from ''VideoGame/SoundVoltex'' where the song was first released.[[/labelnote]]

[[folder:Player-related memes]]
* rrtyui troll endings[[note]]One of the best osu! players in the early 2010's, rrtyui, was known for his "troll endings," where he would intentionally miss on the last note of a map to break his full combo.[[/note]]
** Apraxia moment[[note]]A revival of sorts of the above meme, in a tournament context. Apraxia, the USA's captain in the World Cup from 2017 to 2019, is infamous for ''unintentionally'' missing near the end of maps, usually stopping his team from finishing 4-way full combos. Once, he [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/e4a8pk/apraxia_destroys_us_4way_fc_in_owc_by_celebrating/ infamously tried to BM his opponents by taking a screenshot of the team's 4-way full combo]], forgetting that there was a final repeat slider...[[/note]]
* 727[[note]]In 2016, Cookiezi, one of the best players of all time, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYNpkDrCWtA set the pp record on xi - Blue Zenith [FOUR DIMENSIONS] +HR]], worth 727pp. The fact that the play was a choke (not a full combo) turned "727" into a huge meme in the community, as a sort of cursed number that pops up when people least expect it to. It only grew in notoriety when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQSVuIT9wUE Cookiezi revisited the map with +HDHR]], choked ''again'', and got 727pp. ''Again''.[[/note]]
* [[https://twitter.com/shigetora_twit/status/650479183265529856 how about fc cry thunder first and say that me again]][[note]]In some friendly banter, Cookiezi snaps back at Happystick with this after being called out on not being able to full combo Ice Angel +HR (a comparatively easier map). Its terse delivery and poor grammar have led it to be a huge meme in the community, with it being brought up ''every time'' someone makes any sort of play on a Cry Thunder map, especially if someone manages to full combo it (where someone will inevitably say that X player can now "say that him again").[[/note]]
* [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/4vj1j3/my_thoughts_on_azer/ Azer isn't so great? Are you kidding me?]]
** It gets even funnier when you realize that this copypasta is originally from the competitive ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Smash]]'' community, about a player whose name is ''also "Alex."''
** Someone actually paid real money to have this copypasta recited. Azer [[https://clips.twitch.tv/LachrymoseUgliestPidgeonBCouch absolutely loses it.]]
* [=HowlWater=]'s [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/7qqf4m/howlwater/ doubletapping]][[note]][=HowlWater=] is infamous in the community for being one of the most blatant cheaters in the game. His "playstyle" involved double tapping, which is essentially mashing both hit keys to increase your chances of hitting the next note, at the cost of your accuracy. This was seen as a "cheesy" way to play (even if he was legitimate) and a poor cover-up for his cheating antics, and as such, was memed on by the entire community.[[/note]]
* [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/8loyvc/totoki_is_now_restricted/dzhbqyv/ Totoki Replay Editor]][[note]]After former top player Totoki was exposed of cheating, not only in solo play but [[MoralEventHorizon also in a tournament with a cash prize]], and was restricted, prominent community member Mismagius (Blue Dragon) adapted the Burger King Foot Lettuce copypasta to mock Totoki's actions, which itself became a copypasta in the community.[[/note]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yhAncY4Aws Toy rolling a 1]] (sound warning)[[note]]Toy, one of the best tourney players of all time, is infamous for being unlucky during pre-match rolling, which decides who gets to pick the first map. One of his teammates, fieryrage, was notably ''not'' happy about this, with his outburst of "[[SuddenlyShouting OH MY GOD TOY, OH MY GOD DAMNIT, WHAT THE FUCK]]" being immortalized in the community and repurposed to praise Toy whenever he sets an amazing play.[[/note]]
* [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/7s2arr/rafis_is_a_hacker/ algorithm designed in java]][[note]]After top player Rafis [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6SPs67ZPGw set the pp record on Necro Fantasia +HD,DT]], a reddit user made a satirical post that suggested Rafis had cheated the score. One of their many intentionally outrageous claims was that Rafis used an "algorithm designed in java" to manipulate his pen movements, a phrase that is now jokingly spammed whenever a top player's cursor behaves erratically during a play.[[/note]]

His teammates then spammed this after the tournament ended as a jab towards his performance.[[/note]]
** This copypasta would begin a trend in the osu! community to intersperse English words within Chinese text to cryptically describe notable situations. Some of them keep the characters and format used above, even when the resulting sentence is nonsensical (such as [[https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comments/jhduko/boleks_cringe_moment_in_owc_qualifier/ "Finnish在OWC戰役中得到Scandal"]]).
* whiteDOABLE[[note]]An emote on the current #1 player [=WhiteCat=]'s Twitch channel, meant as a motivation emote for his viewers to reaffirm him that a beatmap is "doable" for him to full combo. Players in the community then started using the phrase "whitedoable" in place of the word "doable" due to how silly it sounds when taken out of context.[[/note]]
* The Intercambing Method[[note]]Refers to top Chilean player Intercambing, who is one of the strongest tournament players in the country, with his "method" being, of course, carrying his team to victory. Usually accompanied by a Zalgo distortion for emphasis.[[/note]]
