* In ''Hollyoaks'', Nancy and Ravi were dating, but both also desired Kris, who desired both. And both ended up having an affair with Kris, without the other knowing, though it continued (but not for long) after they all found out. An example where this diagram is not a straight-up threesome.

* In ''HarryPotter'', Ron and Hermione are a case of OppositesAttract. But one thing they do have in common is their shared loyalty/affection toward Harry.

* A developing case in ''AttackOnTitan'', with both [[WordOfGay Ymir]] and [[AmbiguouslyBi Reiner]] having feelings for Krista. The former is officially stated to be in love with her, while the later has a crush that may or may not be serious. Krista, for her part, hasn't shown that she considers either one of them as anything more than a friend.

* In ''AttackOnTitan'', [[TheRival Jean]]'s attraction to [[PatientChildhoodLoveInterest Mikasa]] fuels much of the tension he has with Eren. [[TheHero Eren]], for his part, is utterly oblivious to Mikasa's feelings for him and may in turn have feelings for [[BrokenBird Annie]]. Mikasa even calls him out of this, demanding to know if he has "special feelings" for Annie.

* Malfurion Stormrage (A), his brother Illidan (B), and Tyrande (C) are in this sort of triangle. Malfurion and Tyrande are a happy couple, Illidan is loyal(at the beginning) to Malfurion, but loves Tyrande.

* VideoGame/{{Half-Life 2}}: Eli Vance, his daughter Alyx Vance and his co-worker Judith Mossman are a mild example of type '''7a'''. Eli and Alyx love each other, Eli and Judith may be more than friends, and Alyx does not get on with
Judith.

* In ''VideoGame/ShinSuperRobotWars'', this trope happens with [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Amuro Ray]] (A), [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Aya Kobayashi]] (B) and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Chen Agi]] (C). In a Space Route scenario, Amuro and Aya start complimenting each other on how swift they are in combat, Aya clearly interested in him as more than a fellow pilot. Chen continues glaring at the two of them from her place in hiding. In another Space Route scenario, Chen is pleasantly surprised when Amuro invites her to accompany him to the city.

* On ''[[GreysAnatomy Grey's Anatomy]],'' Callie, Mark and Arizona are this to a degree: Callie and Mark are best friends with occasional benefits until Callie starts dating Arizona. When they break up, she has an impulsive hookup with Mark and falls pregnant with his child. Arizona is initially quite upset, but eventually she reunites with Callie and they marry, all serving as parents to the baby Sofia. They become a type 8 when Mark ([[LoveDodecahedron who is dating Julia but really loves Lexie, who is dating Jackson]]) and Arizona eventually grow to care for each other (platonically), but [[spoiler: [[MurderTheHypotenuse Mark then dies]] in a plane crash at the end of season eight]].

* ''MegaManStarForce'': Both Luna Platz and Sonia Strumm have feelings for Geo Stelar, who may or may not like them back. It is never resolved by the end, for that manner.

* ''MegaManStarForce'' Luna Platz (A) can't make up her mind whether or not she is in love with Geo Stelar/Mega Man (B), who has feelings for Sonia Strumm (C).

* In ''KingdomHearts'' (more prominently in the first episode but possibly in the others as well) Riku (A) has feelings for Kairi (B) but she and Sora (C) are in love with each other.

* ComicBook/TheBatmanAdventures: Type 5: Harley Quinn is in {{Mad Love}} with TheJoker, but The Joker has {{Foe Yay}} with {{Franchise/Batman}}. Batman doesn't have feelings for either. Harley tried persuading The Joker to [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim just shoot]] Batman. It didn't work, so Harley being an AxeCrazy ClingyJealousGirl attempts to MurderTheHypotenuse (later to be adapted to the TV show).

* A pretty common place for superheroes in general to be. [[DependingOnTheWriter Writers are often divided]] on whether or not characters should end up married or what have you, so they introduce multiple love interests to muddy the waters. See {{Superman}} (Clark and Lois or Lana), [[ComicBook/{{Batman}} Nightwing]] (Dick and Starfire or Oracle), or {{Batman}} (Bruce and Catwoman or Talia. Or Zatanna, Wonder Woman, Sasha Bordeaux...)

* ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'' starts out like this. Makoto and Sekai are childhood friends, and Makoto has a crush on Kotonoha. (And Sekai has a secret crush on Makoto.) [[IJustWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Sekai helps Makoto and Kotohona get together]], turning it into a Type 7 or 8 depending on how you want to interpret [[{{Yandere}} Sekai]] and Kotohona's relationship. When Sekai and Makoto take their relationship to another level, however, things go bad. [[AxCrazy Much,]] ''[[MurderTheHypotenuse much]]'' [[NightmareFuel worse]].

[[AC:Note:]] These are all point-in-time snapshots. Could be the situation at the beginning or it could be after some story has gone by. These are often used to construct all sorts of [[LoveDodecahedron Love Polyhedra]].

* ''{{Canaan}}'' has a pretty tragic setup involving this among the villains. Cummings is in love with Liang Qi, but Liang Qi treats Cummings like crap and only has eyes for her boss and OneeSama Alphard, who she is {{Yandere}} for in a big way. Alphard, meanwhile, couldn't care less about either of them, and harbors a bit of FoeYay toward Canaan, which Liang Qi [[MurderTheHypotenuse murderously despises Canaan for]].

* In ''TenchiMuyo'', both Ayeka and Ryoko love Tenchi, and he loves them back. They also hate each other, and constantly scheme to be his sole possessor. Tenchi, for his part, [[TenchiSolution successfully navigates]] his two relationships, keeping the two in a balance in which neither decides not being with him at all would be better than sharing him.
