Another group that caught on were the up-and-coming rappers from Chicago, who created drill music, a style that emphasizes the violence on the streets of Chiraq and put a face to the issues that previous conscious Chicago rappers talked about.

Trap musics rise in popularity is a love it or hate it matter, many "high brow" hip hop fans make claims (many would say truthfully) that trap music is a watered down version of real hip-hop that is boneheaded and ignorant, serving merely to rehash tired gangsta cliches. Other however argue that Trap music works because its not trying to be "deep music" and merely trying to be "fun music", and when viewed in that sense Trap succeeds extravagantly since few genres of music can be said be as much simple dumb fun as trap music is.
