** In the short story "The Art of War," this phenomenon has happened often enough that Earth scientists have adopted the term "Verloren"[[note]]German for 'lost'[[/note]] to describe non-starfaring humans or evidence of humans occurring on planets light years from where they have any right to be. This ranges from archeological digs to several entire active civilizations. How they got there is a matter of speculation, ranging from a benevolent alien species planting colonies so that non-starfaring races couldn't be wiped out in a cataclysm, to humans being used for experimentation and then abandoned.
** In the novel ''Triplet'', the "Hidden Worlds" of Shamsheer and Karyx are only accessible though a set of tunnels to other dimensions. The natives of these worlds appear to be human, and are presumed to have been planted there by whatever advanced civilization created the tunnels, but no one's sure. And since the tunnels prevent carrying any technology (or even clothing) through them, doing genetic testing would require dragging one of the natives naked and screaming back through the tunnel. As one of the explorers notes, that's currently considered "unacceptable procedure."
