Certain characters only tease their LoveInterest: in those cases the teasing is romantic, with the In-Universe expectation that they will eventually hook up. This trope can very easily overlap with ReadyForLovemaking if a character in an OfficialCouple teases their lover. Other characters tease people just for the hell of it. If the target is NotDistractedByTheSexy, expect The Tease to become frustrated and either give up, or up the teasing to dangerous levels. (Possibly mixed with a morality plot if the target suddenly decides to accept an "offer" that The Tease never expected to be taken up on.)

A person who loves to tease others sexually, often the main character. Maybe they'll try EroticEating. Maybe they'll sidle sensually or Gainaxing walk with an extra bounce in their step around their target. Maybe she'll go all the way and outright offer sex. But mostly, they are not being serious. Almost always, the teased person will act in various comical fashions.

Often used for Fanservice, teasing the audience as much as the characters, because SexSells.

Occasionally it's given a dramatic justification when it's revealed that this insincere sexual aggression is really a way of feeling powerful and in control, covering up deep seated emotional insecurities, thus explaining why they can never act on them. See Tsundere and Yandere for other common ways fictional character cover their emotional insecurities.

Often associated with the HardDrinkingPartyGirl. A standard tactic of TheVamp and the FemmeFatale. Male examples often overlap with TheCasanova if they'll flirt with anyone who seems interested but occasionally actually seal the deal as well.

If the target is NotDistractedByTheSexy, expect The Tease to become frustrated and either give up, or up the teasing to dangerous levels. (Possibly with AnAesop if the target suddenly decides to accept an "offer" that The Tease never expected to be taken up on.)

Not to be confused with either the InnocentFanserviceGirl, or a character who usually doesn't tease people, but ends up in a certain situation requiring them to ShowSomeLeg.

Sometimes a character might only tease their LoveInterest. This might be considered flirting instead of teasing, since the assumption is that the WillTheyOrWontThey eventually will become They Did. (Denial of the implied sex is what makes a tease a tease; if the implied offer is serious, it becomes normal flirting).

* In something of a cross between this trope and TheGadfly, Manabe from Manga/KotouraSan is a rare male example. He finds amusement (and even some arousal) in having sexual fantasies involving the title character, knowing that she Telepathy can read his mind and that she embarrasses easily. In fact, to him, it's no fun to picture her in compromising situations like that unless she can see and react to them.
