** The original 1980's cartoons had this to an extent (lord knows the theme songs did), at least until the villains showed up. TheMovie was probably the most diabetes-laden part of G1, even with the villains.

** The original 1980's cartoons had this to an extent (lord knows the theme songs did), at least until the villains villains showed up. TheMovie was probably the most diabetes-laden part of G1, even with the villains. (Y'know, TheOneWith the ever-spreading, all-consuming, HatePlague-inducing, eye- and mouth-spawning living ooze that is frequently compared to the Shoggoths from the CthulhuMythos.)

** It's mostly in the Direct-to-Video Generation 3 (early 2000's) that the My Little Pony cartoons acquired the reputation for tasting like diabetes. This generation contained, arguably, some of the cutest ponies in the show, and had a very feminine look towards it, as well as heart-warming friendship moments being used to their fullest. This got taken UpToEleven when the already-cute characters were retooled into the "Animesque" style fans dubbed "G3.5". But even these two eras have their share of adventuring. Basically, this whole franchise falls under the same category as PoundPuppies - it isn't ever as pure sugar as its ad campaign suggests.

Basically, this whole franchise falls under the same category as PoundPuppies - it isn't ever as pure sugar as its ad campaign suggests.

* WesternAnimation/RomeoAndJulietSealedWithAKiss is basically Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet...[[AC: with sea lions!]]. It also being a kid-friendly telling, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that your teeth will rot. One of the worst offenders in the movie though is Kissy the Kissing Fish, who was voiced by the creator's daughter of four years without any script. Better schedule an appointment with your dentist...

* The Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon is pretty much the trope codifier to a lot of people, even though they aren't always as cutesy as they seem. Animation involving fairy tales, cheesy and overlong musical numbers, talking animals who don't engage in slapstick, and overly cutesy scenes are not what a lot of people eight and older want to watch.
** Special mention goes to Disney/SnowWhite, whose voice tastes like diabetes.
** The Pastoral Symphony segment of Disney/Fantasia. Rosey-assed cupids, simpering centaurs, and candy-colored satyrs, unicorns, and pegasi bury the viewer under an avalanche of sugar -- Right up until Zeus shows up and crashes the party.
** Film/PetesDragon1977 Pete's song is somehow obnoxiously sweet while oddly sounding dirty at the same time. Really, this song is on the same level as the "I love you" song from Series/BarneyAndFriends. Perhaps even worse.
** Averted, however, with a few of the darker films such as WesternAnimation/TheLionKing and WesternAnimation/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame, as well as their recent films such as Disney/Frozen and Disney/Zootopia, which practically everyone can admit are fantastic.

* Much like its proverbial predecessor, VideoGame/FreedomPlanet has characters and interactions that can be too saccharine for their own good; to be fair, the most saccharine moments are tongue-in-cheek, with Carol's reaction to Lilac and Milla's interactions piercing the fourth wall, and these moments balance out Brevon's appearances.

** Actually subverted in some (but NOT all) of the cartoons, as well as the toy line itself. See the Western Animation folder for examples. There are plenty of non-pink ponies, and some have surprisingly awesome symbols, including thunderboltsFirefly, Lightning, Thundercloud, G4 Rainbow Dash, Thunderlane, Sassaflash, Honey Rays, various others, dragonsBaby Ribbs, shieldsShining Armor, Fire and Flame, [=UFOs=]Star Hopper, tornadoesTornado and fireballsFireball, Waterfire, Firecracker Burst. Many of these were among the original generation. And some of the more recent villains from Friendship is Magic have even managed to get made as toys in the G4 line, including the Queen Chrysalis talking toy - a very dark toy which says things about taking over Equestria and feeding on your love for her if you press the speech button. She even has her EvilLaugh. Played with in the case of the talking Nightmare Moon toy however - she looks evil enough, but doesn't say anything evil (or in-character) whatsoever. The Guardians of Harmony spin-off consists of straight-up action figures, including even more villains than the main toy line.
