* Done to a robot in ''Film/IAmMother''. The woman throws herself onto Mother's back and cuts the [[MachineBlood hydraulic tubes]] of her neck, but the effect is only temporary, presumably because a robot could simply shut down the pumps to that area.
* The ''Film/InglouriousBasterds'' used this a few times. It's also speculated that Lt. Raine survived one of these, hence his scar.
* Big Daddy from ''Film/KickAss'' does this to a mook in the warehouse raid scene.
* This happens to Reynald de Châtillon in ''Film/KingdomOfHeaven'', after being captured after the Battle of Hattin. Saladin offers Guy de Lusignan a cup of ice, indicating that [[SacredHospitality he is sparing his life]]. When Reynald, who has gained notoriety by attacking caravans and killing Saladin's sister, gets handed the cup by Guy, Saladin states that the cup was not offered to him, then promptly kills him.
** TruthInTelevision as well. This scene is true to the historical aftermath of the Battle of Hattin.
* For a kaiju-sized version, the climax of ''Film/KongSkullIsland'' sees Kong slashing the lead Skullcrawler's throat with a ''boat propeller''. It managed to defeat the Skullcrawler, but only for a few seconds.

* Rather in an out-of-character manner, Wonder Woman does this to two security guards in ''WesternAnimation/WonderWoman2009'' - by throwing her tiara, boomerang-like, at the unaware guards, who fall dead instantly as their throats are slashed.
* ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': Mystique gives one to Apocalypse, but the wound doesn't kill him because he has a HealingFactor.
* How ''many'' {{Mooks}} meet their end in ''Film/{{Logan}}''. Hell, one of [[BadassAdorable Laura's]] first onscreen kills has her turning a [[EvilInc Transigen]] soldier's throat into a bloody PEZ dispenser.

* Apparently how Juno (Sylvia Sidney) died in ''Film/{{Beetlejuice}}'' - not entirely obvious until she takes a drag off a cigarette. I think that's supposed to be a Tracheotomy hole, she died of throat cancer. All civil servents in the afterlife are stated to be suicides. Appererently smoking counts.
* Near the start of ''Film/{{SWAT}}'' Alex Montel cuts the throat of his uncle Martin Gascoigne for stealing from their crime organization.

* In ''Film/TheThing1982'', the Americans discover a frozen corpse in the remains of the Norwegian camp whose throat and wrists have been slashed. * In ''Film/TreasureIsland1990'', the pirates' first morning on the eponymous island is a rough one as they find few of their number with their throats slit, courtesy of the local hermit Ben Gunn.
* In ''Film/BadTaste'', the alien chef mocks the captive Giles by doing the throat slit gesture with a knife that he has in his hand. A mook named Robert attempts to mimic the gesture with his sharpened bayonet but accidentally cuts his own throat.
* Majid's suicide in ''Film/{{Cache}}''. It's the fact that the death is self-inflicted that is shocking, as well as the apparent lack of motivation for doing so.
* Done in the opening of ''Film/AssassinationGames''. The blood is very understated with the victim taking a while to realize their throat has been cut.

* In ''Film/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallowsPart2'', Voldemort does this to Severus Snape with his wand and orders Nagini to attack him further. Voldemort did this because he assumed Snape would be the master of the Elder Wand after he killed Dumbledore.
* How all of the Ripper's victims (except Orville) are killed in ''Film/KnifeForTheLadies''.
* In ''Film/{{Valentine}}'', Shelley, the first girl to die, is done in by having her throat cut.
* In ''Film/LifeBlood'', Brooke kills Steve by slashing his throat with a boxcutter. She mentions that she wants his death to be slow and painful.

* ''Franchise/{{Saw}}'': The chances of a character getting their throat slashed (among other ImpromptuTracheotomy variants) is just as common as them dying in a DeathTrap. Specific examples include Tapp in the [[Film/SawI first movie]], Xavier in ''Film/SawII'', Jigsaw in ''Film/SawIII'' and Erickson in ''Film/SawVI''[[note]]Although it was targeted to the jugular vein in this case.[[/note]], to name a few.

* The Rumor's throat is slashed with a note from a MusicalAssassin in ''ComicBook/TheUmbrellaAcademy''. It's a rare case when the victim doesn't end up dead though she was immediately rushed to a hospital and [[BeautyIsNeverTarnished bears an ugly scar afterwards]].

* ''Series/TheUmbrellaAcademy2019'': In the eighth episode of the series, as Vanya Hargreeves [[spoiler:learns that her adoptive sister Allison was complicit in making her believe she was a normal human when she actually had the god-like ability to turn sound waves into energy all along, she lashes out in rage and accidentally slashes Allison's throat with her violin bow (which was in turn powered by the surrounding sounds of wind and a song she was practicing), and [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone immediately regrets it.]] Thankfully, Allison manages to survive through a blood transfusion, but is rendered mute.]]

This {{Death Trope|s}} is one of the classic ways to kill someone in media. Take a knife, a straight razor, or some other nasty edged weapon and draw it across your victim's throat. In a lot of media, this generally means {{instant death|Stab}}, but in more realistic works, it is quite slow (unless the carotid arteries are all severed, in which case the target passes out after a few seconds due to lack of oxygenated blood to the brain--though it takes a certain amount of expertise to land such a strike) and VERY messy to boot, particularly if the carotid artery or the jugular vein are severed. Not to mention the victim usually drowns in their own blood ''before'' passing out. Naturally, {{Knife Nut}}s are particularly fond of this method.

* ''Fanfic/ThePrayerWarriors'' often do this to their victims. This also how [[Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians Annabeth]] is killed by her opponent in the coliseum.
* This is how Ayame accidentally kills Hikaru in ''Fanfic/DespairsLastResort''.

* In ''Fanfic/PonyPOVSeries'', when General Lone Ranger attempts to attack the Mane Six, they effortlessly beat him and Rarity slashes his throat, then reveals she was skilled enough to do it without killing him.
