In RealLife, any gunshot can kill, especially if left alone long enough to get horribly infected. But of all the places on the body where one can get shot, the butt has the greatest chance of not being life-threatening and causing any permanent damage when treated properly. In fact, survival experts often (semi-seriously) advise people confronted by guns to stick out their butts to offer them as the least risky targets.

Robin fires the arrow and it hits a peasant in the ass, causing Robin to comment it looks like it will be a country seat.

* In ''Film/{{Gunless}}'', Sean arrives in Barclay's Brush dripping blood from an unseen wound, which is eventually revealed to be a bullet wound in his butt just before he passes out. Later, Sean is trying to clear a jam in Jack's gun so they can finish their duel when the gun discharges accidentally. The bullet ricochets off a grindstone and hits Jack in the butt in exactly the same spot Sean had been shot earlier.
* ''Film/CityHeat'' (1984). A mafia goon who gets shot in the ass goes to a BackAlleyDoctor for treatment. The drunken 'doctor' pours [[HealItWithBooze booze on his behind to disinfect it]], and at that point our protagonists walk in and threaten to literally set his ass on fire if he doesn't talk.
* ''Film/TheCherokeeKid'': Isaiah shoots Bonner in the ass with a derringer. Instead of getting medical attention, he goes to a bar to get drunk.
* ''Film/{{One for the Money}}'': Stephanie pushes Jimmy to the ground, making him drop his weapon. As she tries to grab her gun, Jimmy picks up his pistol and shoots a round. After firing back, and the gunfight now over, Stephanie puts her hand over her tight jeans and realizes she’s been hit in the left buttock. Driving away from the scene, she calls dispatch. “Yeah, I got two dead bodies, a hit man, an F.T.A., and a bullet in my ass.”

* In the ''Literature/SherlockHolmes'' stories, Dr. Watson says in some stories that he was shot in the arm, and in others that he was shot in the leg. One of the sillier [[EpilepticTrees fan theories]] to explain the discrepancy is that he was really shot in the behind and was too embarrassed to say so.
* In ''Literature/{{Sharpe}}'', the titular protagonist shoots a particularly cowardly and incompetent UpperClassTwit in the arse during a duel. It was nearly subverted, in that Sharpe was actually aiming for the man's belly (which would lead to a prolonged and agonizing death), but missed.

* In ''Johnny Johnson'', the title character, upon receiving a bullet wound in the rear, says, "Ain't that a hell of a place to get shot!"

* This trope drives the entire plot of ''VideoGame/{{Mercenaries}} 2''. Your former employer, instead of properly paying you, wants you dead and tries to kill you. You get shot in the ass. The enemy mooks even call you the mercenary who got shot in the ass. The theme song from the ads, "Oh No You Didn't", sings about it, too.
* If you managed to land a shot on an enemy's buttocks in ''VideoGame/PerfectDark'', [[DevelopersForesight they'd do this awesome little hop and stagger about awkwardly for a few seconds]].

* A similiar thing happens in ''Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker'' if you shoot a foe right in between their cheeks. The poor soldier grabs his butt and instantly passes out or goes into critical condition, it's actually almost as effective as a headshot.

* ''VideoGame/{{Bulletstorm}}'' has doing this to a stunned mini-boss as one of the many skillshots you can perform. It causes flames to shoot out said mini-boss' ass. [[AwesomebutImpractical Funny, but worth less points and harder to set up than just leashing the mini-boss' head off.]]
** You can also do this to ordinary mooks for a "Rear Entry" skillshot. Doing it to Burnouts with growths on their ass earns you an "Assplosion".

* In ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidPeaceWalker'', shooting any enemy either in the head or between the buttocks with the tranquilizer pistol will cause them to fall asleep from a single shot.

* In ''VideoGame/KingdomComeDeliverance'', Hans Capon is hit with this at the pre-epilogue mission, while [[spoiler: attempting to rescue hostages from the captured Talmberg Castle]] and the player is forced to pick them up and drag them out safely.

* ''Duffy's Dozen'' was an unsold Hanna-Barbera pilot from 1971 about Ted Duffy, his wife and their ten adopted children traveling the country in an RV. In a segment of the pilot taking place at Yosemite National Park, Ted is trying to retrieve his bowling ball from a sleeping bear. A park ranger sees the situation and fires a tranquilizer dart... which hits Ted in the butt. It was intentional as the ranger was keeping Ted from doing something dangerous.
