** Turkey: Yes, he's a BoisterousBruiser who once wanted to [[TakeOverTheWorld conquer Europe]] and is [[{{Understatement}} not exactly liked]] by Hungary or Greece, but his frequent portrayal in fanworks shipping him with one of these two nations (''especially'' the latter one) as a power/control-hungry BastardBoyfriend who doesn't care one iota about the other's feelings aside from [[BreakTheCutie using]] [[ManipulativeBastard any]] [[DomesticAbuser means]] [[RapeAsDrama possible]] to make them acknowledge his dominance over them is definitely taking it too far. Even if his personality isn't the mellowest one around, his canon protectiveness of Japan plus the new profiles hinting at his relations with Greece being more like VitriolicBestBuds taken to an extreme than 100% undiluted hatred should at the very least imply a JerkWithAHeartOfGold instead of a full-blown JerkAss.
** Prussia: More than one fan has taken his TedBaxter, ButtMonkey and BadAss traits, used for comedy in the series, to all kinds of extremes. As a consequence, '''many''' fics and RP scenarios have Prussia derailed into either: a) a CardCarryingVillain who is to blame for all the German WorldWarII atrocities while his brother Germany is merely misguided or a victim of Prussia's abuse, or; b) an absolutely brainless JerkAss whom every single European country hates to death and whose presence WILL make Hungary go automatically AxCrazy before he can even breathe in her surroundings.

** Uranus and Neptune are often portrayed as heartless, ruthless PsychoLesbian pair, willing to kill Usagi and every other idealist. Some of the stories even have them trying to supplant Usagi as new Queens, which was never even '''implied''' in original.

* Doujin that focus on TokenLoli [[YakitateJapan Mizuno Azusagawa]] (and that actually have a story) tend to have her older sister Tsukino do a 180 personality flip and actually be selfish, entitled, spoiled, and unappreciative of her employees, to make Mizuno's own spoiled brat nature more sympathetic. Note that these doujin try and pretend the two's eldest sister [[CompleteMonster Yukino]] doesn't exist, since Tsukino would have to be a serial killer to get worse than ''her''.

** The last point, about his arrogance, has recently been enforced as he pretty much ''has'' been acting that way in cannon.

* Almost every ''AxisPowersHetalia'' character/[[MoeAnthropomorphism nation-tan]] has suffered from this trope in fanworks to some extent, especially in DarkFic where many authors feel the need to make them [[DarkerAndEdgier "more in-line with actual history"]] which unfortunately often translates to "make sure that the audience [[NeverLiveItDown NEVER forgets the horrible parts of their history]] by [[AccentuateTheNegative cranking their negative traits up to the levels needed for them to commit such henious acts while ignoring their positive traits]] ([[HistoricalVillainUpgrade and any non-horrible time periods they had]])". Of course, DieForOurShip is also sometimes responsible for this, to the point where it can be difficult to tell if a fan is invoking this trope out of a desire for "historical accuracy" or just a desire for a "villain" standing in the way of their {{OTP}}, or a combination of both. (And sometimes it's just because fans ''like'' the BastardBoyfriend trope or playing with {{Alternative Character Interpretation}}s for the heck of it.) To list all the cases of this trope for this series [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters would take up several pages of text]], but the most common victims are listed below:
** England: In canon, he's a snarky {{Tsundere}} who has had his [[TheBritishEmpire days of pillaging and plundering as a pirate]] and frequently gets into fights with America or France, but is more bark than bite and clearly has a softer side (he's not called a Tsun''dere'' for nothing, after all), is more VitriolicBestBuds than outright enemies with America and France, and [[TheWoobie suffered]] (and probably [[LoveHurts still is suffering]]) from heartbreak due to the one he cared for the most [[TheAmericanRevolution leaving him]]. In fanworks, one side of his Tsundere personality is all too often exaggerated at the expense of the other - and when said exaggerated side is the 'tsun', he becomes a ManipulativeBastard who only cares about himself, his empire, and/or [[{{Yandere}} forcibly]] [[IfICantHaveYou possessing]] his object of desire. Becomes especially bad if Russia is made into the DracoInLeatherPants opposite of him.
** America: In canon, he's a [[BoisterousBruiser boisterous]], [[IdiotHero dense]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold but ultimately good-hearted]] LoveFreak who can be a jerk to Canada or England but not ''all the time.'' When rabid Canada fans or militant England/someone-other-than-him shippers get a hold of him, however, he becomes a heartless JerkJock who victimizes his [[SympatheticSue poor, neglected brother]] or a colossal [[RalphWiggum moron]]/[[BastardBoyfriend asshole]] who can't accomplish anything with England other than breaking his heart ''again''. Some fans also seem to have trouble wrapping their minds around the concept that he can (and ''does'') have an [[OddFriendship odd but genuine friendship]] with Japan and that him falling in love with Japan would most likely ''not'' lead to him stalking and abusing him.
** Japan: In canon, he's an InscrutableOriental who [[PerpetualFrowner rarely smiles]] or [[TheStoic displays extreme emotions]] but [[NotSoStoic * does* have emotions underneath it all]] and is actually something of a YamatoNadeshiko too once you look past his [[{{Kuudere}} social awkwardness]], being polite, soft-spoken, and patient even with patience-testing characters - traits he displays even in his [[ImperialJapan imperial years]] (which shows that his stabbing of China InTheBack, while definitely a KickTheDog moment, is ''not'' the [[NeverLiveItDown be-all end-all of his character]]). Doesn't stop many fanworks from turning Japan into a BastardBoyfriend / {{Yandere}} responsible for abusing and raping China and his other siblings to MoralEventHorizon levels and leaving them traumatized for life, completely ignoring the modern day strips that show him being on at least relatively friendly terms with China and Korea.

** Turkey: Yes, he's a BoisterousBruiser who once wanted to [[TakeOverTheWorld conquer Europe]], used to fight little Hungary in her {{Bokukko}} phase and has ''really'' bad relations with Greece who has a more mellow personality than him. But the number of fics that depict him as making it his personal mission to [[BreakTheCutie break Greece psychologically and even physically]] or otherwise forcefully subjugate him is almost certainly taking it too far. Even if he ''would'' likely dance TheMasochismTango with Greece, surely he wouldn't be a 100% BastardBoyfriend who doesn't care one iota, not even in a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold deep down and well-hidden corner of his heart]], about Greece's feelings? And also, this doesn't necessarily mean that when Hungary fought him to keep him out of Europe and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Hungary he was in control of a part of her territory]], he beat [[LoliCon and raped her]] as well.

** Still doesn't justify how fans abuse and mistreat other characters (specially the females) to make their favorites look like the perfect MarySue angels they are not.

** Even if you don't like anything else about Heinel, his courage and dedication are worthy of respect.

* TenchiMuyo has Ayeka and Ryoko both getting hit by the other's DieForOurShip. Ayeka's reserved manner and sometimes passive-aggressive temper quickly become outright bitchiness and hatred, normally leading to her directly opposing the couple and having to be killed or banished. It also often establishing that she only wants Tenchi because Ryoko wants him [[FanDumb despite developing feelings for him before she even learns of Ryoko's feelings in most series.]] Ryoko on the other hand will have her hedonistic personality and sexuality be played to absolute debasement, a violent slut who can't comprehend anything greater than lust and is willing to rape Tenchi before Ayeka can have him, and is also determined to get everyone killed if they stand in her way (despite a scene in TenchiInTokyo in which she states that, for all of her own faults, she'd never betray her friends or stab them in the back).

** Denethor's portrayal in these fics probably stems from his {{Flanderized}} role in the movies, which show his negative side with barely any time given to dwell on his more positive qualities. Especially since it also gives Gandalf a monologue about how the incompetent Stewards pretty much ruined Gondor, when in the novels it was the last kings who were fools, and the Stewards the kingdom's salvation with their pragmatic outlook. Judging from those days it's no wonder that Denethor wasn't least bit happy about the idea of having to relinquish his throne to somebody just because of their royal blood.

** Does that story even have any good characters? Brom Bones is a bully, Ichabod Crane is a GoldDigger, and Katrina is a very loose woman.
* In contrast to all the Bronte sisters' heroes who get the DracoInLeatherPants treatment, critics consistently portray Gilbert Markham of ''TheTenantOfWildfellHall'' as some sort of stupid, selfish, AxeCrazy JerkAss and pathological liar... despite all his PetTheDog moments, sincere love and esteem for the heroine, and TakeThat speech towards the then-contemporary view of wives as slaves. True, he has his WhatTheHellHero moments, like his brutal attack on Frederick Lawrence... all of which he comes to regret and try to atone for during his CharacterDevelopment. To critics and fangirls, showing a little impatience and having trouble controlling your temper is unforgiveable, but premeditated, downright cruel and malicious villainy (like Heathcliff's in ''WutheringHeights'') is [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys irresistable]].

* ''{{Alias}}'' produced a lot of fanfic writers who ''desperately'' wanted two the canonical villains, Irina Derevko and Julian Sark, to be 'good'. Creating such a scenario for a fanfic required either ignoring huge chunks of their behavior or somehow rewriting it, which often happened, eventually a full 'fanon' emerged recasting Derevko as 'spymommy', the loving, caring, and protective mother of the protagonist Sydney, and Sark as a misunderstood guy with hidden redeaming features. Based on the original characters' on-screen behavior, all this qualified only as wishful thinking.

** There's a few fics that depict Dib as a kind of [[FantasticRacism anti-alien racist]]. This ''is'' a [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation possible interpretation of his character]], but his apparent love of space and the paranormal implies he might like an alien who ''wasn't'' actually trying to enslave his species or screw him over in some way; he just never really gets to meet one.

* In [[DeathNote Death Note]] [[FoeYay L/Light fanfics]] Light's father and the rest of the Police Taskforce tend to be a [[JerkAss Jerk Asses]] about it at best... [[DieForOurShip as does Misa]]... and while Light is already a VillainProtagonist, he's [[CharacterDerailment derailed]] from being a cunning KnightTemplar MagnificentBastard to being [[ObviouslyEvil Obviously]] and StupidEvil whenever L is shipped with ''anyone'' else.

* It's semi-canonical, in that the text can be read as involving BlackAndGrayMorality (YMMV who counts as which; Shakespeare's characters tend to be morally ambiguous), but a lot of productions of ''TheMerchantOfVenice'' (notably that with LaurenceOlivier as Shylock) not only make Shylock [[AntiVillain as sympathetic as is possible]], but also chose the most unflattering interpretations of the protagonists' characters.

There are fanfictions that portray him as being a CompleteMonster, [[KickTheDog kicking puppies for fun]] and [[DomesticAbuse being abusive towards his boyfriend.]] In canon, yes, there was the incident with the ZERO System, but let's not forget: 1) All the other pilots had bad experiences with the system (all except [[TheLancer Duo]] overcame it) 2) Quatre went particularly berserk [[BreakTheCutie because he was already stressed]] [[spoiler: from the death of his father, his sister being seriously injured, and from the argument he had been having with said father over being a Gundam Pilot]], and he was not thinking clearly (especially under [[MindRape ZERO]]) 3) Quatre [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone felt really bad]] [[TheAtoner about what he did.]] Except for that one time, Quatre is ^[[TheWisePrince a sweetie-pie]]. Why, [[ApologeticAttacker he even apologizes to enemy soldiers for killing them]]!

*** And there are fangirls who just hate her along the lines of "[[ThisIsUnforgivable THAT FRIENDSHIP SPEECH WHORE]]! [[PerverseSexualLust YUGI IS MINE]]!"

However, said exposition contained facts that the Organization's fangirls insist is untrue, i.e. that they can only pretend to feel emotions under normal circumstances because they lack hearts, so he ''must'' be evil and using Sora as a tool, too.

* Ron Weasley from ''HarryPotter'' is the TropeNamer. As you can imagine, this happens in the fandom a ''lot''. There's examples of nearly every sympathetic character and hero being turned into the vilest of villains in order to justify a [[DieForOurShip chosen ship]] or DracoInLeatherPants. * The TropeNamer, Ron Weasley. Since DracoInLeatherPants is often a result of Draco/Hermione shippers, Ron is turned ragingly evil and joins the Death Eaters to oppose the now-good Draco. There are various arguments as to why a FaceHeelTurn on Ron's part is plausible (and of course counter arguments to all of them), with some being more cogent than others. [[WordOfGod Rowling herself]] has admitted there were parallels between Ron and Peter Pettigrew. What the fanfic authors usually get wrong is that they have Ron joining Voldemort for revenge or other petty reasons.
** The Grangerverse, a group of fans who believe that Hermione Granger is the true hero of the books (making Harry Potter himself something they call a "frontkick", meaning he's a {{Sidekick}} even though his name is on the cover) do this as a matter of course, because their favorite character is far too good for Ron Weasley. Usually, Ron ends up being a semi-literate attempted rapist thug whose best features are his lack of comprehension and his atrocious table manners.

** There was once a fanfic that [[JustifiedTrope somewhat justified]] a mild version of this; It was written from the point-of-view of an extremely minor character in Slytherin House. Ron, not to mention Harry and Hermione, are all just massive [[JerkAss arseholes]], a la James and Sirius in Order of the Phoenix.
* Ginny Weasley gets portrayed as a shrewish whore a lot. Sometimes it's ship-related and sometimes the author just doesn't like her. Harry/Hermione fics in particular almost invariably cast her as an evil, deceitful bitch trying to steal Harry. Since the same pairing tends to make Ron evil, as noted above, these fics often vilify the whole Weasley family.
** And the proof that Ginny haters have of her being a [[{{Ghostbusters}} "slore"]] is that she dated three boys (not at the same time, and the last one ended up being her husband) within two school years. Whereas Hermione is a paragon of purity -- no, she would ''never'' date anyone just to get attention. Viktor and Cormac? Who are they?
** ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4079609/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Marriage_Contracts Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts]]'' is perhaps the archetypical example of Ginny Weasley as the VillageBicycle. Ron also gets the standard sexist JerkAss treatment re: Hermione, even though Harry is paired with someone else.

In {{Alternate Universe Fic}}s in which the Hat put Harry in Slytherin, Draco will usually be put in leather pants and the Weasleys will suddenly become the biggest assholes in the world. Often, it is Ron who gets the worst of it with the rest of his family acting little to no different (especially the twins), though there have been instances where ''all of them'' will look upon and treat Harry with disdain just because he's not a Gryffindor.
* In general, whether or not Ron will immediately become a complete psychopath is determined solely by what house Harry is sorted into, or as noted further above if Hermione is with '''anyone''' else. That is, anything but Gryffindor (mostly Slytherin, but he's still usually a huge JerkAss if Harry is in one of the other two houses) or Hermione being in love with anybody besides him = [[ItsAllAboutMe It's All About Me]], AxCrazy Ron. In the latter case, he will more than likely [[IfICantHaveYou want to murder her rather than let anyone else have her]].

** In the same story mentioned above, Ron assaults Hermione at their first flying lesson, and in his second year nearly ''kills her'' with a lethal spell. He is expelled from Hogwarts for this, but ends up being accepted as a student at Durmstrang (which is often referred to in fanfic as the dark, evil school, despite Viktor Krum being shown in two books to ''not'' be part of the stereotype). Chance of him later becoming a literal example of this trope: 100%. Hermione herself also '''''murders Draco Malfoy''''', and completely gets away with it (with absolutely no remorse from her, Harry or anyone) because Dumbledore [[WhatAnIdiot doesn't bother to check her wand]] [[WallBanger because "she was such a sweet girl"]].
* It's not just the Slytherin!Harry fics, or even the Draco fics. There is an entire ''subgenre'' of fanfic where Harry's "chest monster" turns out to be because [[{{Yandere}} psycho stalker]] Ginny is dosing him with love potion. Often they also throw in that Ginny got the potion from her mother, who is secretly an ambitious shrew hoping to enrich herself by having her daughter marry Harry and then inherit all his money if/when Harry dies fighting Voldemort. Things like Ron having been hired by Dumbledore to spy on and manipulate Harry are very frequent in such fics as well. Oddly, even in the worst fics of this example Arthur Weasley and the older Weasley brothers (especially the twins) still remain honest, well-meaning people (except Percy, but he's an asshole in the canon, so it's not like he's any different). It's just Molly and her two youngest that get their characterizations done over.
* It's especially interesting when Ron gets this, but Ginny [[PossessionSue does not]]. Cue their relationship going straight to what would be CainAndAbel levels if the author hadn't seemingly forgotten that they are brother and sister. Sometimes she goes so far as to not even care if he dies, which, of course, has the intended effect of making her look like a sociopath. Even if he did join the Death Eaters, become eviler than Voldemort and tried to ruin the author's OneTruePairing, you'd think Ginny would still experience some angst over his death.
** In ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3802762/1/Time_to_Fix_the_Mistakes one]]'' PeggySue fanfic, Ginny poisons all of her children and tries to do the same to Harry, to "have the Potter fortune and fame" all to herself. Once in the past, Harry [[RetGone prevents Ginny from ever existing]] by secretly sterilizing Molly Weasley after Ron is born (who is actually ''not'' evil here, for once). Because Ginny is apparently [[ObviouslyEvil pure evil from birth and unredeemable]].

** A very large portion of SlashFic with Harry in the main pairing has its authors vilifying Ginny in any number of the ways detailed above. This has become increasingly common in fic written post-Deathly Hallows: ironically, it's ''especially'' true in fics that try to conform to canon up to and including the epilogue. Needless to say, the things they make Ginny do to shatter the obvious happiness Harry feels at the time of the epilogue are often downright heinous.
** A rather bizarre version of all of this is done in ''[[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/TheGirlWhoLived The Girl Who Lived]]''. The series started out with Rose and Ginny being best friends and fellow Druidesses (with behavior that invoked other...implications). On the other hand, while Ron basically fulfilled most of his uses at first, most of his good moments were eventually handed off to Hermione or Neville or Rose, leaving Ron to look like a lazy idiot who begged Rose in vain to let him copy her homework while she rolled her eyes and condescendingly told him to do it himself. The author also appeared to take care to leave Ron out of any discussions of Rose's power or knowledge or plans and tried to make his bad moments (like when he fights with rose in GOF) appear to be genuinely wounding instances which gives Rose the opportunity to [[DisproportionateRetribution strike back]]. The twins appeared to be on "minion" status as well, kissing her hand when they met her, Percy was outright hated, and the Wesley parents were hardly mentioned, with Rose stating at one point that she had five parental figures "if [she] could count Mrs. Wesley". After rewriting ''Order of the Phoenix'' however, Ginny appeared to lose favor with the author and by extension Rose and was replaced more or less with Luna. In the brief amount of time she is shown, Ginny is painted as a shrew who picks on Fleur wrongly and is yelled at by Rose for it (Mrs. Wesley gets the same treatment).
** Which makes sense, since ''Half Blood Prince'' was also when it became apparent that Ginny and Harry would hook up and the author was a confirmed Harmonian (Harry/Hermione shipper). The author also wrote on his profile on one website that the Ron/Hermione relationship made no sense because they argued, which would explain the Ron abuse.
* Stories in which [[WronglyAccused Harry is framed for a crime he didn't commit]] and sentenced to [[strike:[[TheCountOfMonteCristo the Chateau d'If]]]] [[TheAlcatraz Azkaban]] for life tend to have this happen to just about ''all'' of the characters except usually Snape, Neville, Luna and [[strike: a random Weasley or two]] the Weasley Twins and ([[strike:almost]] ''never'' Ron, and sometimes at least one of the older brothers who are [[FlatCharacter barely mentioned in the series]] immediately becomes Harry's new [[BigBrotherMentor best friend]]). Common murder victims include Neville, Hagrid, Ginny, and the Dursleys. Those who were supposedly his closest friends and trusted adults will suddenly denounce him as being evil on par or worse than Voldemort (if not [[RuleOfTwo joined with him]]), exaggerate or ''[[MaliciousSlander outright lie about his past misdeeds]]'' (often in the [[KangarooCourt Wizengamot]]), [[KickTheDog assault or torture him]] (sometimes by illegal curses or means that should get ''them'' thrown into Azkaban), and destroy/break/burn all of his prized possessions, ''especially'' [[BreakTheCutie the photo album with pictures of his parents inside]]. Rarely, they may also go to the extreme of ''[[MoralEventHorizon brutally killing Hedwig right in front of Harry just to spite him]]''. Despite all of this, they will act like nothing has happened and ask for forgiveness nearly the very ''moment'' Harry is proven without a doubt to be not guilty, almost always by Voldemort [[EvilGloating telling everyone the full details of how he set up Harry and turned everyone against him]], even though there is usually [[WhatAnIdiot still no solid evidence of Harry's innocence]].
** The second chapter of ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3871941/2/Betrayed_Having_a_Father_Sixth_Year Betrayed Having a Father: Sixth Year]]'' has many of the betrayal examples listed in the entry above (and is also a DeadFic, which many "Harry is Betrayed" fics end up as). Close to the end (after Harry's "trial"), Ron, Hermione, Remus and Sirius suddenly hack up into [[CompleteMonster cruel, vengeful demons without an ounce of decency or mercy]]. One of the worst and most clichéd examples, but nearly ''all'' fanfics of this type [[FollowTheLeader follow the same basic template]] with few variations:
*** Someone (usually Ron) screaming that Harry's a bastard or traitor after finding out about the murder(s) or by [[TheCorpseStopsHere discovering him at or near the scene of the crime]].
*** Harry watching helplessly as his photo album is reduced to ashes (again, usually by Ron and sometimes followed by a BigNo). Usually, he's also cruelly mocked by his house-mates at the same time.
*** If Sirius is alive, most of the time he will be on the side of the accusers despite the ''same thing'' once happening to him! [[IncrediblyLamePun Seriously]], [[strike:most]] all of the "good" characters will become [=Ron The Death Eater=] or {{Anti Hero}}es in these stories without exception.
*** As for Harry, being locked away in a hellish, dark, damp prison patrolled by monsters that [[EmotionBomb feed on emotions]] and [[GhostlyChill make everything extremely cold around them]] will do [[WallBanger great wonders for him]], in the process becoming a GodModeSue who turns out to be more powerful than everyone else combined and (very often) destroys Voldemort [[BoringInvincibleHero with no effort whatsoever]].
*** In the extremely uncommon instances where Harry ''doesn't'' become a OneManArmy, once released from Azkaban he'll invariably turn into a depressed, [[DrivenToSuicide suicidal individual]] and [[DeusAngstMachina some of those who betrayed him will only hate him all the more, especially Ron]]. They may also go as far as labeling Harry a [[EvilSorcerer Dark Wizard]] and look for (or invent) ''any'' reason to try and put him back in prison, even though he '''''did absolutely nothing wrong and was found innocent!'''''
*** [[http://draco664.fanficauthors.net/Betrayal_of_the_Best_Kind/index.php At least one fic averts most if not all of those tropes]]. Must have something to do with it being among the first. ''Betrayed'' also largely averts it, but [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1106246/1/From_the_Abyss The oldest one I can find]] already has it all.
* This also tends to occur with regards to Albus Dumbledore, whose canonical status as TheChessmaster tends to be [[ManipulativeBastard twisted]] and put through a strainer darkly until he stops being ''Dumbledore'' and starts being [[strike:Umbridge]] [[CompleteMonster Voldemort]] with a beard. This tends to be especially prevalent in fanfiction that addresses (and usually overemphasizes) Harry's abuse at the hands of the Dursleys, in which this strange man completely unlike Dumbledore everyone is addressing as Dumbledore for some reason seems content to send Harry into the mouth of Hell (because protection from the EvilOverlord trying to kill him is best when placed over a house ''full of people trying to kill him'') and [[EvilLaugh mwa-ha]]-ha into his bowl of lemon drops rather than give them a [[DeathFromAbove stern talking to]].
** [[MyImmortal WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING MOTHERFUCKERS!?!]]
** ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4240771/1/Partially_Kissed_Hero Partially Kissed Hero]]'' is perhaps the single most extreme example of this, presenting Dumbledore as a megalomaniacal psychopath who secretly controls all of Wizarding Britain while hiding under the false front of a kind grandfatherly headmaster, to the point where Voldemort is an almost entirely irrelevant sideshow.

Psychopath Ron (as mentioned above) also quickly emerges after being rejected by Hermione, who then immediately blames Harry for it and wants to kill him. The story wastes no time in derailing both of these characters as {{Complete Monster}}s, it does so in the ''first chapter'' alone. [[SoBadItsGood Sadly]], [[DeadFic it has not been updated since 2007]].
* A notable subversion appears in the fanfic, ''The Lie I've Lived'', where Harry actually expected Dumbledore to turn out like this, but was downright surprised to find Dumbledore avert it by stopping himself after realising the extent of his actions thus far. Then he apologised.
* On that note, the Dursleys' canonical abuse of Harry (neglect counts, folks, and even if it didn't, Petunia swung a frying pan at his head and Vernon was one accidental-magic attack from killing Harry in ''[=OotP=]'') is Flanderized into anything from regular beatings to ''rape''. This is usually either to make Harry [[TheWoobie more pitiable]] (and usually [[DracoInLeatherPants Snape]]'s the one to rescue him) or to make Dumbledore into a [[ManipulativeBastard mustache-twirling evil bastard.]]
** For possibly ''the'' most extreme and idiotic example of the above, look no further than ''Fanfic/ASadStory'':

Uncle Vernon had started beating him and had brutally murdered Hedwig before his eyes. He couldn't wait to get back to Hogwarts."
** ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2101001/1/Child_of_Grace Child of Grace]]'' uses this, along with "alternate universe female Harry" and "Ron hates Harry for not being in Gryffindor", bringing us Holly Potter, a girl who swings between being a PuritySue and a JerkSue and who begins the tale sitting out in the snow while the Dursleys are inside eating dinner. She is quickly established to be skinny, frightened by anyone touching her, heavily black and blue under her clothes from the beatings, and will ''curtsy'' to all strangers because the Dursleys had had such manners "all but beaten into her".
* Similarly, Lucius Malfoy, who is ''already'' plenty evil, often turns out to be an abusive bastard who beats Draco, giving the latter a FreudianExcuse. Narcissa tends to be cast as a battered housewife in this scenario. Blame [[FanFic/TheDracoTrilogy Cassandra Claire]]. There's an irony to this in the canon, because by the end of the series, the Malfoys' love for each other is pretty much their ''only'' canonically redeeming qualities. Earlier examples can perhaps be excused, though, as their family mechanics were not deeply explored before we see Narcissa weeping over her son and husband's fates in ''Half-Blood Prince.''
* James Potter is often the subject of this- while canonically he ''was'' a {{Jerkass}} as a teenager, he was also a fiercely loyal friend and (later) devoted family man who gave his life to protect his wife and son. James the JerkJock who is personally obnoxious and is nasty to people he doesn't like is canon- James the abusive user who has minions instead of friends and spends his days doing nothing but thinking of new ways to hurt people (in other words, Tom Riddle 2.0) is not. Also, the fact that Lily (who previously wanted nothing to do with him) married him implies that he at least somewhat grew out of it, as does some dialogue from Remus Lupin (generally the most levelheaded and reliable of the Marauders).
* In DarkFic or RevengeFic, this sometimes happens to '''Harry''' himself as well whether he joins forces with Voldemort or not, to the point where he becomes little more than a [[AGodAmI cruel blend of Voldemort, Snape and Bellatrix Lestrange]], which the author ''[[MisaimedFandom expects the readers to sympathize with and root for]]''. Apparently, having Harry becoming a psychotic, sadistic murderer on par or worse than Voldemort is what should have happened in canon post-Order of the Phoenix. Often, these stories are rife with the Manipulative Dumbledore and Abusive Dursleys examples explained above as an excuse for Harry to go to TheDarkSide. Not surprisingly, one of his worst victims is [[strike:usually]] always Ron, even if he ''didn't'' turn against Harry.

** It was hilariously parodied in ''TheUnwritten'' comics. The comics are about a son of a writer who got famous after creating a series of novels very [[CaptainErsatz similar]] to ''Harry Potter''. The first two start with fragments of those books, and the third with a fragment of {{Frankenstein}}. The first page of the fourth issue shows Harry's counterpart slaughtering Ron's and Hermione's counterparts in a really terrible way, only to have it turn out on the next page that it's a DarkFic.
* ''FanFic/MyImmortal'' has some very atypical examples of this. For example, [[strike:Snape]] Snap and [[strike:Lupin]] Loopin, who hardly ever meet this due to being two of the most popular characters in the fandom, are turned into a troublesome duo despite [[{{Understatement}} not being on great terms]] in the {{canon}}. Oh, and they're also both pervy pedophiles[[hottip:*:ephebophiles, but Tara makes the same mistake]] who in general resemble the canon characters in name only and [[RougeAnglesOfSatin sometimes not even then]].
** And of course, Tara does this to Dumbledore too - after finding out that Draco is "in bondage" with [[strike:Voldemort]] Volfemort, Dumbledore refuses to help because he "never liked him anyway", but even this is atypical for ''Harry Potter'' fanfiction. Although Dumbledore is often Death Eatered, as noted above it's usually by turning him into a ManipulativeBastard. ''My Immortal'' goes the opposite route, turning him into a capricious, senile moron (it's even noted he has Alzheimer's at one point) who calls Enoby and Draco motherfuckers in his very first appearance.
** Oddly, despite having nearly every cliche you'll find in bad ''Harry Potter'' MarySue fic, it avoids doing this to the two most popular targets, since both Ron and Ginny are apparently friends with the MarySue. Although in Ginny's case, you might have missed the fact that she was even IN the fic, since her name is only mentioned twice and spelled as "[[RougeAnglesOfSatin Jenny]]" the first time. And Ron isn't in it very much either. He performs with Ebony's band and then later on he's Willow's date to the second [=MCR=] concert. After that, he's pretty much done appearing in the story.
* In most fanfic where Harry has a sibling, and is not or mistaken not to be the Boy Who Lived, James and Lily Potter end up being examples of this trope to the point where the Dursleys look like saints. They belittle, abuse and/or ignore him while heaping praise upon Harry's brother or sister, who is usually also a huge JerkAss that flaunts his or her status at every opportunity. Often, the three of them despise Harry for the mere fact that he exists, and more so if he befriends the wrong people (Snape, the Malfoys, or any Slytherin in general). Ron is usually portrayed as little more than a Gryffindor equivalent of Malfoy who often hates and mocks Harry for no reason at all. And '''heaven forbid''' if Harry ends up sorted into ''any'' house besides Gryffindor.

** A particularly irritating examples appears in the Sacrifices Arc by Lightning of the Wave, wherein Lily Potter puts the KnightTemplar back in KnightTemplarParent by acting like the hellish product of an orgy between [[{{Noir}} Altena]], [[{{Supernatural}} John Winchester]] and [[MySistersKeeper Sara Fitzgerald]]. She raises Harry to be a TykeBomb with no personality beyond 'protect [his twin brother] Connor, don't outshine Connor, die for Connor if you have to' because Connor is the Boy-Who-Lived and [[SarcasmMode if one of your children is famous, it's okay to turn the other into a]] ChildSoldier [[SarcasmMode because no one will notice!]]
* Snape has a large fan following, but there's still a vicious group of haters out there doing everything in their power to make him look like a bigger asshole than he already is, including degrading his love for Lily and his requests for Voldemort to spare her as a desire to keep her ''as a sex slave''. [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3807777/1/Harry_Potter_and_The_Acts_of_Betrayal There's even a fic]] that has him ''raping female students and then erasing their memories of the incident.'' Often in 'Super Powered Harry' fics, Snape will attempt to use legilimency or even outright attack Harry or one of his friends. Harry will then use his ultra amazing superpowers to defeat and utterly humiliate Snape in front of everyone. Snape is usually revealed to still be a Death Eater and then either gets killed horribly or goes to Azkaban for life. It's more often than not the former.
* And just to round out the entire cast, Lily Potter has earned a small but rabid {{Hatedom}} for daring to [[spoiler:choose James over Snape.]] It's not RonTheDeathEater to disagree with her choice or her actions, but the fic and essays portraying her as an evil, stuck-up, abusive, shallow demon spawn because she [[spoiler:didn't love Snape back (even though he at one point called her "mudblood," the wizarding equivalent of the N word) definitely is. Many of these fans don't stop to consider that this might have an indirect RonTheDeathEater effect on Snape as well, because if Lily is as horrible as they say she is, what does it say about Snape that he liked her so much?]] The true WallBanger is when people argue that she has no concept of love or selflessness, even though ''her very first act in the book'' is to sacrifice her life for Harry's.
* The level of Remus Lupin hatred coming from Snape rabid fans is becoming scarier and scarier. Apparently, he was [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/453025.html#cutid1 an horrible bully as well as completely not trustworthy]], [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/453894.html a bad father who will pass his lycantrophy so he shouldn't have reproduced]], [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/454954.html an ungrateful bastard who kept making Snape suffer]] and/or [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/456087.html?#cutid1 an evil pervert who *raped* poor Sevvie-kins, thus he's a pedophile too]].

** This troper has read one very, very atrocious Cody/Gwen ''TotalDramaIsland'' fic turned Trent into a perverted {{JerkAss}} who "doesn't want to show his wild side on camera" to get said [[MarySue angel Goth Gwen]] to get with Cody.

** Turkey: Yes, he's a BoisterousBruiser who once wanted to [[TakeOverTheWorld conquer Europe]], used to fight little Hungary in her {{Bokukko}} phase and has ''really'' bad relations with Greece who has a more mellow personality than him. But the number of fics that depict him as making it his personal mission to [[BreakTheCutie break Greece psychologically and even physically]] or otherwise forcefully subjugate him is almost certainly taking it too far. Even if he ''would'' likely dance TheMasochismTango with Greece, surely he wouldn't be a 100% BastardBoyfriend who doesn't care one iota, not even in a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold deep down and well-hidden corner of his heart]], about Greece's feelings? And also, this doesn't necessarily mean that when Hungary fought him to keep him out of Europe and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman%E2%80%93Hungarian_Wars he was in control of a part of her territory]], he beat [[LoliCon and raped her]] as well.

** America: In canon, he's a [[BoisterousBruiser boisterous]], [[IdiotHero dense]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold but ultimately good-hearted]] LoveFreak who can be a jerk to Canada or England but not ''all the time.'' When rabid Canada fans or militant England/someone-other-than-him shippers get a hold of him, however, he becomes a heartless JerkJock who victimizes his [[SympatheticSue poor, neglected brother]] or a colossal [[RalphWiggum moron]]/[[BastardBoyfriend asshole]] who can't accomplish anything with England other than breaking his heart ''again''. Some fans also seem to have trouble wrapping their minds around the concept that he can (and ''does'') have an [[OddFriendship odd but genuine friendship]] with Japan and that him falling in love with Japan would most likely ''not'' lead to him stalking and abusing Japan.

** China: For some other fanworks, you can swap Japan and China's names in the previous sentence and have it be just as accurate a description, but with even ''less'' justification (yes, real-life China isn't exactly a bastion of human rights, but real-life nation =/= ''Hetalia'' nation-tan, ''especially'' when said nation-tan is a quirky panda lover). A China who treats his younger siblings like little children and drives him away when he tries to help them is canon; a {{Yandere}} or CompleteMonster China who rapes the Koreas, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong into submission during either [[ImperialChina Imperial]] or [[RedChina Red]] times, used to abuse Japan when he was a kid and/or heartlessly approves of the massacre of his own citizens by any of his goverments is '''not'''.
** Russia and Belarus: Yes, they're a [[StepfordSmiler creepily smiling]] PsychopathicManchild and [[KnifeNut knife-wielding]] {{Yandere}}, respectively. But fans can still can go ''too'' far in characterizing them, especially if they forget about Russia's [[DespairEventHorizon heartbreaking]] [[UsedToBeASweetKid backstory]] and [[PetTheDog his genuine affection for his]] [[FragileFlower older sister Ukraine]] or that Belarus, while definitely [[LoveMakesYouCrazy love-crazed]], is much more of an [[EmotionlessGirl Emotionless]] StrangeGirl than an indiscriminately AxCrazy murderess when she's not chasing Russia.

** Kikyo deserves a bullet point of her own for being ''the'' most frequently-bashed character in ''Inuyasha'' fanfics. While it ''is'' true that she initially tried to drag Inuyasha into hell with her and was so resentful of Kagome's connection with Inuyasha that she ''left her to die'' once after stealing the Shikon shards from her, the fact that she had just CameBackWrong with her personality warped by the bitter memory of apparently being betrayed by her love Inuyasha makes her more of a {{Tragic Hero}}ine than a CompleteMonster, and she eventually develops back into the [[YamatoNadeshiko sweet, gentle]] {{Miko}} she was before her death [[spoiler:and then [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence ascends to heaven]] [[GoOutWithASmile with a smile on her face]]]]. But according to way too many IY fanfics, Kikyo is an irredeemable bitch who kicks puppies just ForTheEvulz (and is even eviler than ''Naraku'') and thus ''must'' be bashed into the ground.

** Keep in mind that Tsugumi Ohba herself described Light's dad as the only unambiguously good character in ''DeathNote''.

** ... Doubly stupid when we see the role he had in the fight against Boo and his incarnations, huh? If not for him, Fat Buu wouldn't have developed his kinder side *and* Ultimate Buu wouldn't have been defeated [[spoiler: since ''he'' managed to convince people to give their LifeEnergy to form the Genki Dama that ultimately killed him.]] Heck, even Goku and Vegeta aknowledge Satan as a hero, then why can't fandom do the same?

* TenchiMuyo has Ayeka and Ryoko both getting hit by the other's DieForOurShip. Ayeka's reserved manner and temper quickly become outright bitchiness and hatred, normally leading to her directly opposing the couple and having to be killed or banished. It also often establishing that she only wants Tenchi because Ryoko wants him [[FanDumb despite developing feelings for him before she knows of Ryoko's feelings in most series.]] Ryoko on the other hand will have her hedonistic personality and sexuality be played to absolute debasement, a violent slut who can't comprehend anything greater than lust.

** There was once a fanfic that [[JustifiedTrope somewhat justified]] a mild version of this; It was written from the point-of-view of an extremely minor character in Slytherin House. Ron, not to mention Harry and Hermione, are all just massive [[JerkAss arseholes]], a la James and Sirius in Order of the Pheonix.

** China: For some other fanworks, you can swap Japan and China's names in the previous sentence and have it be just as accurate a description, but with even ''less'' justification (yes, real-life China isn't exactly a bastion of human rights, but real-life nation =/= ''Hetalia'' nation-tan, ''especially'' when said nation-tan is a quirky panda lover). A China who treats his younger siblings like little children and drive him away when he tries to help them is canon; a {{Yandere}}!China who rapes the Koreas, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong into submission during either [[ImperialChina Imperial]] or [[RedChina Red]] times, used to abuse Japan when he was a little child and/or heartlessly approves of the massacre of his own citizens by any of his goverments is '''not'''.

Hermione herself also '''''murders Draco Malfoy''''', and completely gets away with it (with absolutely no remorse from her, Harry or anyone) because Dumbledore [[WhatAnIdiot doesn't bother to check her wand]] [[WallBanger because "she was such a sweet girl"]].
* It's not just the Slytherin!Harry fics, or even the Draco fics. There is an entire ''subgenre'' of fanfic where Harry's "chest monster" turns out to be because [[{{Yandere}} psycho stalker]] Ginny is dosing him with love potion. Often they also throw in that Ginny got the potion from her mother, who is secretly an ambitious shrew hoping to enrich herself by having her daughter marry Harry and then inherit all his money if/when Harry dies fighting Voldemort. Things like Ron having been hired by Dumbledore to spy on and manipulate Harry are very frequent in such fics as well. Oddly, even in the worst fics of this example Arthur Weasley and the older Weasley brothers (especially the twins) still remain honest, well-meaning people (except Percy, but he's an asshole in the canon, so it's not like he's any different). It's just Molly and her two youngest that get their characterizations done over.
* It's especially interesting when Ron gets this, but Ginny [[PossessionSue does not]]. Cue their relationship going straight to what would be CainAndAbel levels if the author hadn't seemingly forgotten that they are brother and sister. Sometimes she goes so far as to not even care if he dies, which, of course, has the intended effect of making her look like a sociopath. Even if he did join the Death Eaters, become eviler than Voldemort and tried to ruin the author's OneTruePairing, you'd think Ginny would still experience some angst over his death.

This has become increasingly common in fic written post-Deathly Hallows: ironically, it's ''especially'' true in fics that try to conform to canon up to and including the epilogue. Needless to say, the things they make Ginny do to shatter the obvious happiness Harry feels at the time of the epilogue are often downright heinous.
** A rather bizarre version of all of this is done in ''[[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/TheGirlWhoLived The Girl Who Lived]]''. The series started out with Rose and Ginny being best friends and fellow Druidesses (with behavior that invoked other...implications). On the other hand, while Ron basically fulfilled most of his uses at first, most of his good moments were eventually handed off to Hermione or Neville or Rose, leaving Ron to look like a lazy idiot who begged Rose in vain to let him copy her homework while she rolled her eyes and condescendingly told him to do it himself. The author also appeared to take care to leave Ron out of any discussions of Rose's power or knowledge or plans and tried to make his bad moments (like when he fights with rose in GOF) appear to be genuinely wounding instances which gives Rose the opportunity to [[DisproportionateRetribution strike back]]. The twins appeared to be on "minion" status as well, kissing her hand when they met her, Percy was outright hated, and the Wesley parents were hardly mentioned, with Rose stating at one point that she had five parental figures "if [she] could count Mrs. Wesley". After rewriting ''Order of the Phoenix'' however, Ginny appeared to lose favor with the author and by extension Rose and was replaced more or less with Luna. In the brief amount of time she is shown, Ginny is painted as a shrew who picks on Fleur wrongly and is yelled at by Rose for it (Mrs. Wesley gets the same treatment).
** Which makes sense, since ''Half Blood Prince'' was also when it became apparent that Ginny and Harry would hook up and the author was a confirmed Harmonian (Harry/Hermione shipper). The author also wrote on his profile on one website that the Ron/Hermione relationship made no sense because they argued, which would explain the Ron abuse.
* Stories in which [[WronglyAccused Harry is framed for a crime he didn't commit]] and sentenced to [[strike:[[TheCountOfMonteCristo the Chateau d'If]]]] [[TheAlcatraz Azkaban]] for life tend to have this happen to just about ''all'' of the characters except usually Snape, Neville, Luna and [[strike: a random Weasley or two]] the Weasley Twins and ([[strike:almost]] ''never'' Ron, and sometimes at least one of the older brothers who are [[FlatCharacter barely mentioned in the series]] immediately becomes Harry's new [[BigBrotherMentor best friend]]). Common murder victims include Neville, Hagrid, Ginny, and the Dursleys. Those who were supposedly his closest friends and trusted adults will suddenly denounce him as being evil on par or worse than Voldemort (if not [[RuleOfTwo joined with him]]), exaggerate or ''[[MaliciousSlander outright lie about his past misdeeds]]'' (often in the [[KangarooCourt Wizengamot]]), [[KickTheDog assault or torture him]] (sometimes by illegal curses or means that should get ''them'' thrown into Azkaban), and destroy/break/burn all of his prized possessions, ''especially'' [[BreakTheCutie the photo album with pictures of his parents inside]]. Rarely, they may also go to the extreme of ''[[MoralEventHorizon brutally killing Hedwig right in front of Harry just to spite him]]''. Despite all of this, they will act like nothing has happened and ask for forgiveness nearly the very ''moment'' Harry is proven without a doubt to be not guilty, almost always by Voldemort [[EvilGloating telling everyone the full details of how he set up Harry and turned everyone against him]], even though there is usually [[WhatAnIdiot still no solid evidence of Harry's innocence]].

One of the worst and most clichéd examples, but nearly ''all'' fanfics of this type [[FollowTheLeader follow the same basic template]] with few variations:

This tends to be especially prevalent in fanfiction that addresses (and usually overemphasizes) Harry's abuse at the hands of the Dursleys, in which this strange man completely unlike Dumbledore everyone is addressing as Dumbledore for some reason seems content to send Harry into the mouth of Hell (because protection from the EvilOverlord trying to kill him is best when placed over a house ''full of people trying to kill him'') and [[EvilLaugh mwa-ha]]-ha into his bowl of lemon drops rather than give them a [[DeathFromAbove stern talking to]].

She is quickly established to be skinny, frightened by anyone touching her, heavily black and blue under her clothes from the beatings, and will ''curtsy'' to all strangers because the Dursleys had had such manners "all but beaten into her".
* Similarly, Lucius Malfoy, who is ''already'' plenty evil, often turns out to be an abusive bastard who beats Draco, giving the latter a FreudianExcuse. Narcissa tends to be cast as a battered housewife in this scenario. Blame [[FanFic/TheDracoTrilogy Cassandra Claire]]. There's an irony to this in the canon, because by the end of the series, the Malfoys' love for each other is pretty much their ''only'' canonically redeeming qualities. Earlier examples can perhaps be excused, though, as their family mechanics were not deeply explored before we see Narcissa weeping over her son and husband's fates in ''Half-Blood Prince.''
* James Potter is often the subject of this- while canonically he ''was'' a {{Jerkass}} as a teenager, he was also a fiercely loyal friend and (later) devoted family man who gave his life to protect his wife and son. James the JerkJock who is personally obnoxious and is nasty to people he doesn't like is canon- James the abusive user who has minions instead of friends and spends his days doing nothing but thinking of new ways to hurt people (in other words, Tom Riddle 2.0) is not. Also, the fact that Lily (who previously wanted nothing to do with him) married him implies that he at least somewhat grew out of it, as does some dialogue from Remus Lupin (generally the most levelheaded and reliable of the Marauders).

For example, [[strike:Snape]] Snap and [[strike:Lupin]] Loopin, who hardly ever meet this due to being two of the most popular characters in the fandom, are turned into a troublesome duo despite [[{{Understatement}} not being on great terms]] in the {{canon}}. Oh, and they're also both pervy pedophiles[[hottip:*:ephebophiles, but Tara makes the same mistake]] who in general resemble the canon characters in name only and [[RougeAnglesOfSatin sometimes not even then]].
** And of course, Tara does this to Dumbledore too - after finding out that Draco is "in bondage" with [[strike:Voldemort]] Volfemort, Dumbledore refuses to help because he "never liked him anyway", but even this is atypical for ''Harry Potter'' fanfiction. Although Dumbledore is often Death Eatered, as noted above it's usually by turning him into a ManipulativeBastard. ''My Immortal'' goes the opposite route, turning him into a capricious, senile moron (it's even noted he has Alzheimer's at one point) who calls Enoby and Draco motherfuckers in his very first appearance.
** Oddly, despite having nearly every cliche you'll find in bad ''Harry Potter'' MarySue fic, it avoids doing this to the two most popular targets, since both Ron and Ginny are apparently friends with the MarySue. Although in Ginny's case, you might have missed the fact that she was even IN the fic, since her name is only mentioned twice and spelled as "[[RougeAnglesOfSatin Jenny]]" the first time. And Ron isn't in it very much either. He performs with Ebony's band and then later on he's Willow's date to the second [=MCR=] concert. After that, he's pretty much done appearing in the story.
* In most fanfic where Harry has a sibling, and is not or mistaken not to be the Boy Who Lived, James and Lily Potter end up being examples of this trope to the point where the Dursleys look like saints. They belittle, abuse and/or ignore him while heaping praise upon Harry's brother or sister, who is usually also a huge JerkAss that flaunts his or her status at every opportunity. Often, the three of them despise Harry for the mere fact that he exists, and more so if he befriends the wrong people (Snape, the Malfoys, or any Slytherin in general). Ron is usually portrayed as little more than a Gryffindor equivalent of Malfoy who often hates and mocks Harry for no reason at all. And '''heaven forbid''' if Harry ends up sorted into ''any'' house besides Gryffindor.

** A particularly irritating examples appears in the Sacrifices Arc by Lightning of the Wave, wherein Lily Potter puts the KnightTemplar back in KnightTemplarParent by acting like the hellish product of an orgy between [[{{Noir}} Altena]], [[{{Supernatural}} John Winchester]] and [[MySistersKeeper Sara Fitzgerald]]. She raises Harry to be a TykeBomb with no personality beyond 'protect [his twin brother] Connor, don't outshine Connor, die for Connor if you have to' because Connor is the Boy-Who-Lived and [[SarcasmMode if one of your children is famous, it's okay to turn the other into a]] ChildSoldier [[SarcasmMode because no one will notice!]]
* Snape has a large fan following, but there's still a vicious group of haters out there doing everything in their power to make him look like a bigger asshole than he already is, including degrading his love for Lily and his requests for Voldemort to spare her as a desire to keep her ''as a sex slave''. [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3807777/1/Harry_Potter_and_The_Acts_of_Betrayal There's even a fic]] that has him ''raping female students and then erasing their memories of the incident.'' Often in 'Super Powered Harry' fics, Snape will attempt to use legilimency or even outright attack Harry or one of his friends. Harry will then use his ultra amazing superpowers to defeat and utterly humiliate Snape in front of everyone. Snape is usually revealed to still be a Death Eater and then either gets killed horribly or goes to Azkaban for life. It's more often than not the former.
* And just to round out the entire cast, Lily Potter has earned a small but rabid {{Hatedom}} for daring to [[spoiler:choose James over Snape.]] It's not RonTheDeathEater to disagree with her choice or her actions, but the fic and essays portraying her as an evil, stuck-up, abusive, shallow demon spawn because she [[spoiler:didn't love Snape back (even though he at one point called her "mudblood," the wizarding equivalent of the N word) definitely is. Many of these fans don't stop to consider that this might have an indirect RonTheDeathEater effect on Snape as well, because if Lily is as horrible as they say she is, what does it say about Snape that he liked her so much?]] The true WallBanger is when people argue that she has no concept of love or selflessness, even though ''her very first act in the book'' is to sacrifice her life for Harry's.
* The level of Remus Lupin hatred coming from Snape rabid fans is becoming scarier and scarier. Apparently, he was [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/453025.html#cutid1 an horrible bully as well as completely not trustworthy]], [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/453894.html a bad father who will pass his lycantrophy so he shouldn't have reproduced]], [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/454954.html an ungrateful bastard who kept making Snape suffer]] and/or [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/the_hms_stfu/456087.html?#cutid1 an evil pervert who *raped* poor Sevvie-kins, thus he's a pedophile too]].

* ''[[RanmaOneHalf Ranma 1/2]]'' characters in general are often subjected to this, especially in cases where DieForOurShip is in effect. The characters' quirks, odd personalities, and goofy plots are taken out of the realm of silly comedy and made SeriousBusiness (while similar behavior on the part of the preferred characters is ignored or excused). Those most subject to this trope are Akane (who goes from {{Tsundere}} to AxCrazy), Ryoga (who goes from a WorthyOpponent who undergoes a fair amount of CharacterDevelopment to a ruthless enemy who's ''still'' pursuing Akane and the death of Ranma), Shampoo (who goes from a [[{{Yandere}} casually murderous]] [[ManipulativeBastard somewhat plotting]] GenkiGirl to, well, AxCrazy), and Cologne (who goes from her own slightly more canny plotting and occasional antagonist moments to a ruthless, callous [[TheChessmaster schemer]] matching wits with Nabiki). To exemplify: the Akane example on JerkSue has had to be deleted ''twice'' because, despite having some grounds, people tend to rewrite it to make Akane look almost like a CompleteMonster.

** Japan: In canon, he's an InscrutableOriental who [[PerpetualFrowner rarely smiles]] or [[TheStoic displays extreme emotions]] but [[NotSoStoic *does* have emotions underneath it all]] and is actually something of a YamatoNadeshiko too once you look past his [[{{Kuudere}} social awkwardness]], being polite, soft-spoken, and patient even with patience-testing characters - traits he displays even in his [[ImperialJapan imperial years]] (which shows that his stabbing of China InTheBack, while definitely a KickTheDog moment, is ''not'' the [[NeverLiveItDown be-all end-all of his character]]). Doesn't stop many fanworks from turning Japan into a BastardBoyfriend / {{Yandere}} responsible for abusing and raping China and his other siblings to MoralEventHorizon levels and leaving them traumatized for life (sometimes he's made to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regret his actions]]; sometimes [[LackOfEmpathy not at all]]).
