* Legendarily, the Daleks in ''DoctorWho'' always waste time shouting "EXTERMINATE!" several times before opening fire, giving the Doctor time to escape.
** Except one smartass in [[Recap/DoctorWhoNSS4E12TheStolenEarth "The Stolen Earth"]] who [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim just shoots him]]. A double subversion, as it also ignores its ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy training to hit a moving target, something beyond the capabilities of most Daleks.

escape. One smartass in [[Recap/DoctorWhoNSS4E12TheStolenEarth "The Stolen Earth"]] who only yelled it once then [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim just shoots him]]. A double subversion, as shot him immediately]], officially making it the most DangerouslyGenreSavvy Dalek in existence (however short said existence was after that). It also ignores its ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy training to hit a moving target, something beyond the capabilities of most Daleks.
Daleks (though it did only manage to wing the Doctor instead of killing him outright).

** The difference between an animal on the hunt and a soldier in war, is that the animal usually doesn't want its pray to escape, seeing that it'll make it harder to catch and eat. Therefore, most animals only uses loud noises to intimidate rather then hunt. Soldiers on the other hand, do usually want their preferred "prey" to break and run--its easier to engage an army once its routed, as not only is the enemy now with its back to the attacker, all trace of organization (and the best hope of mounting a proper defense) is also gone. War cries also help with the psychological aspect of killing, motivating the soldier; a single minded determination to kill something does not come naturally to most people, and most animals for that matter.

Surprise--a monster! But you have time to recover from the shock of its appearance because it won't attack until it has posed dramatically and roared. Roaring's like a monster's hello. They must become hostile when heroes don't have the decency to roar a proper return greeting.

He asks his partner Taurus of Nemedia why the lion he fought did not roar, and Taurus's reply was that "All things are strange in this garden. The lions strike silently -- and so do other deaths."

* A lot of the creatures in ''MonsterHunter'' roar when they see you, but usually it's not the kind of roar that leaves you stuck covering your ears. The mook and boss raptors (-Preys and -Dromes) take a noticeable amount of time roaring, so a quick-witted hunter can easily get the first hit on them.
